I figure it's gambling, too. I played it to see and as a game it's absolutely fuckawful. The netcode is worse than anything I've ever experienced with players at 100y distance updating what seems like once per second, there's very little strat or gameplay other than buildspam, and rounds are over so fast it's like the game is just seeing who got good item RNG on the trip to the center then doing it again. The RNG is high enough to make it like Mario Party as long as you reach a pretty low minimum competency, I shouldn't have been able to place 1st in a game I had just started.

It employs modern tried and true whaling tactics. There's the mass capture, there's virtually no barrier of entry to anyone who wants to play fortnite, as it's free to play and available as an app. With Pokémon you would've needed a gameboy and cartridge to play and that initial necessary cost sink probably kept many potential players out. Also the potential for milking the whales is far more efficient than gamefreak's business model. Whereas Pokémon whales would only need to buy one or two gameboys and three games, Fortnite whales can spend $1.5k+ on the game, and because store is within the game itself, the whale is far more likely to make impulsive purchases.
