Obviously, there is absolutely nothing wrong with games being centered around combat but that said, let's talk about games that have little to no actual combat are focused on different themes.

The most obvious examples would be tycoon and city management games which generally don't concern themselves with combat, unless they're for example sci-fi and fantasy themed in which case, they might sometimes throw a few enemies at your establishment and make you defend yourself i.e Dwarf Fortress.

Adventure games rarely have combat although they might get surprisingly violent from time to time, games like Phoenix Wright are completely based on the idea of you trying to basically win a discussion. Speaking of that, there is an RPG maker called "Logomancer" in which every combat encounter is supposedly a discussion, but it still plays like a normal RPG with a combat system, so I don't think it counts. Layton is obviously based completely on puzzle elements.

There are also games that are trying to recreate daily life like The Sims or Harvest Moon, or work simulators like Euro Truck Simulator.

What examples of fun, non-combat oriented games do you know /v/?

Minecraft for the shit that it is, was pretty cozy of a mining/survival game until all the newer shit was added after 1.5/1.7

Nothing beated popping in, going deep into cave networks and spelunking and eventually making complex routes for Minecarts and whatnot.

My friends and I used to have a nice Tekkit or Bukkit server and got a nice processing factory going for a minute. That was until we got bored and nuked the place to shit.

7a9c68  No.15435951

>>15435931

The game is about getting through an obstacle course, but a large amount of those obstacles are enemies that need to be disposed off, so that still counts as combat, and by the extension, games that would have a lot of combat but aren't completely centered around it, like many 3D action platformers would qualify and that's not really the point. So I would say, it doesn't count in the context I was trying to convey.

There's a game out there called Little Inferno where all you do is burn shit in your fireplace. You pretty much burn everything you can get your hands on via a catalogue that grows as you burn more things. There are some puzzles though where the game offers you extra rewards when you burn certain objects together to create a "combo." Whether you think it is fun is subjective since not everyone is addicted to staring at a fire. The game has the best looking fire physics I have ever seen and I enjoyed it even though I finished it in about 5 hours.
