Why is the West so averse to the idea of crossovers? If a crossover is ever done, it would either be an internal crossover or done with a Japanese company for some reason. It is very rare to see crossovers among different Western companies. The fact that the West has yet to make its own version of Project X Zone is very disappointing because there is a lot of potential and money that is being left on the table. Meanwhile, Fortnite or other Battle Royale games could take a page from MonHun and have guest characters appear as downloadable skins. Anyway, what existing crossovers do you like and what future crossovers do you want to see?

>Why is the West so averse to the idea of crossovers?

Do you really think greedy megacorps like ea and activision feel like sharing their profits? Even now, call of duty black ops 4 is trying to undercut fortnite (which also undercutted pubg to begin with). Do you seriously believe ANY sort of beneficial co-operation can work among these backstabbing shekelgrubbers? I don't.

>Why is the West so averse to the idea of crossovers?

It isn't, not in movies at least. Also, don't quote me on this but I think Kingdom Hearts, while obviously made by nips, involves a few western characters.

Explain how numerous Western IP's showed up in Minecraft as skins. These Western companies could have made a Minecraft clone of their own but they just gave in and allowed their characters to be skins in Minecraft. That's one step closer towards a crossover project on the scale of Project X Zone. All they have to do is to find an independent studio that will make the crossover game which will most likely be a multiplayer shooter or a singleplayer RPG knowing Western tastes.

I meant in regards to Western gaming companies. Instead of remasters and reboots, why not do more crossovers because the latter is a lot more creative and interesting than the former.

This already sorta happened.

>I meant in regards to Western gaming companies.

A little vampire girl once told me that the japanese game industry is superior. Might be the truth, afterall.

Obviously it's because of strict copyright laws and other legal complications that just make crossovers between different intellectual property owners just not worth the hassle. And don't forget the Jews.

What's stopping them from making the Vault Boy, Dragonborn and Assassin Skins then? Marvel/Disney is a bigger Western IP control freak than the other Western companies so it should be easier to get those skins approved and made. My main beef is that they would rather crossover with Western non-vidya than fellow Western vidya IP's.

Copyright laws, absurd licensing fees….(((a certain race of happy merchants)))..you know, the usual reason why crossovers would rarely happen in Western media.

Japan also takes more risks in what they crossover as well. I mean, if you look at something like Chaos Wars for the PS2, that crossed Blazing Souls, Code of the Samurai, Growlanser, Gungrave, Shadow Hearts, and Spectral Souls, and beyond the first and last being owned by IF themselves, it just seems baffling that those would be what they deigned to pick up and try to make a game around.

Mostly because they have nothing to crossover.

And even if they did I don't think they'd be able to pull it off wel. Japanese have crossovers in their soul because they're so focused on characters and pitting them against each other. The western AAA industry doesn't care about characters, it's just generic WW2 soldiers all day every day.

Indies give more of a shit, but their characters tend to be meme crap. They put this character in a crossover indie kart racer once. That should tell you everything.

a good amount of it is how copyright law works in each country:

in Japan you can start such a project and work out the agreements later. You are even legally allowed to sell up to 1000 copies of a product that references an IP you don't have permission to use (to wit, doujinshi and doujin software)

in the west you have to get shit signed in triplicate before you even commit character notes to a design doc or it's C&D time. Actually getting a collab done would require heads of companies, not the actual creative types, to have the idea first

I think if there were to be a big Western crossover game between Activision, EA, Bethesda and Ubisoft, these are the IP's that would show up assuming that "kiddie" IP's are banned just like in Project X Zone:

Bethesda: Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein

Ubisoft: Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, Rainbow 6 (characters will be mostly/entirely based on the playable characters from Siege)

EA: Mass Effect and Dragon Age (stand-in avatar character for both Bioware IP's and that character brings along 2-5 notable/fan-favorite party members from each IP)

Activision-Blizzard: CoD (Zombies mode Characters and probably the characters from Modern Warfare), Destiny (generic guardian avatar and whoever Nathan Fillion's character is, main bad guy from Destiny 2 is a boss somewhere in the game), Overwatch, Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft

western games don't have nearly as many strong or distinctive characters especially now. maybe 10 or 20 years ago you had all the mascot characters but now all the mcs are self inserts with no personality. nublizzard is total cancer but they're one of the companies who even have characters in their games at this point

3cb37e  No.15435258

Because in the west, games are serious business for serious mature gamers. Crossovers are nonsensical fun meant purely for entertainment. How are you going to tell a compelling narrative about a strong lesbian mexican trans-girl that elevates the human condition and spreads the message of tolerance if you have a side mission with Issac from Dead Space making a cameo where you have to team up to take out necromorphs in her walking sim?

Check out some smash clones. Brawlhalla and Rivals of Aether have western guest characters.

>Why is the West so averse to the idea of crossovers?

Because there hasn't been that much of any quality works made for the past few decades.

And/or, they're too busy developing original shit. How many crossovers developed in the past decade have actually been good?

7d50d7  No.15435819

PXZ one was good. Godd selection of characters and ecchi. Second one was garbage since first one sold well and they started pandering to westerners and turned it into absolute shit. Some neofag sjws were complaining about boobs jiggle and in PXZ2 they shortened and censored cutscenes as a "feature" ruining them to be "faster". I just hope PXZ3 will add more ecchi and maybe limited song versions like they do with super robot. Don't care about western one. Don't want to see some old faggots fisting eachothers.

At least they still had Felicia's cutscene. I'd like to see PXZ3 have the same idea as the original – two characters from two different series pairing up more often. Hell, maybe they'd even have the sense to let you make your own team-ups to appease purists and people who like wacky shit.

Answer: because of the leftists (incompetency) and jews (greed) in the western entertainment industry. Kill the leftists and jews, and everything will be better.

46ff13  No.15436528

I remember reading about Who Framed Roger Rabbit and how that movie alone pretty much killed crossovers in the movie industry because of how much of a legal clusterfuck it ended up being. Seeing how in bed with Hollywood practically every western publisher is I'd say they have been told repeatedly to not bother.

There is no law like this in Japan. Japanese companies let fans do this out of custom and the fact that they know it betters interest in the series in the end. However, at anytime, a company could shove it's boot up the ass of a doujin author it doesn't like. This happened to a guy making the lead up into a guro snuff bestiality Pokemon doujin that Nintendo threatened him to stop producing and he turned it into generic "girls are slutty prostitutes with men" instead so Nintendo took the stick out of it's ass.
