>FFXIV devs starting to run out of fresh ideas

>latest schtik is a "old school mob grinder" that is literally just killing mobs on an instanced island with nothing to find or explore

>Its been going on for half a year or more

>Player numbers in freefall

>Barely touched game with lots of other good games taking up my free time

>Log in today

>The two cities of Stormblood, Kagune and Rhalgr's Reach have 2 and 4 players in respectively.

Jesus H Christ this game is dead right now. I love this game and have fond memories of good ass times, picked up my Encylopedia Eorzea and shirts and figures and STILL am not enough of a blind fanboy to not call what i'm seeing: Eureka is actually, legitimately killing this game.

The phrase 'X is killing my mmo' is thrown around all the time but i think this is the first time its actually legitimate.

Anyone still playing? anyone at all?

Eureka and Palace killed the game. Actually, any kind of content designed to "speed up" and skip early game or just grind without context quickly kills any MMORPG.

This. Makes it so all the leveling process is just a grind to get to the "end-game" where the "real game begins", but then it's just daily instance/raid grinds and getting bored waiting for the next update. It's the dumbest shit.

The game was doomed to fail because of the god awful job system. Just refine the one from 11 and add more options you stupid fucking hacks.

Elaborate because that's one of the best parts of the game and you just sound like a salty nigger who can't afford a sub fee.

He's right you fucking nigger. FFXI has a fucking sub fee. I'm not going to bother entertaining you further because I don't want you to think you're welcome here.

What a thoughtful and well put together comment. Yeah, I also hate being able to play whatever class I want whenever I want without having to make a new character to do so, and also seeing how plot events change based on your class experience.

I could never get into it. The game had excellent overall presentation, music and visuals in a genre where these things are usually nonexistent, and these things matter a whole lot more than most people would admit. But it didn't feel anything like an actual MMORPG. You're always sharded off or instanced into your own little world and the areas were pathetically tiny too. If square enix were too lazy to set up a server in your region (despite selling it to a great many people there) you couldn't dodge AOEs reliably. That's pretty bad considering it's not even a real action game. The leveling experience is of course a joke, completely railroaded progress from quest hub a to b. Endgame focus means catch up mechanics and no one doing goddamn anything except the very newest and freshest content which makes for unsustainable development as this new "old school mob grinder" would seem to prove. What the fuck kind of development process ends with the developers running out of ideas before running out of funds and resources? The human imagination is supposed to be limitless. How do you fuck up that badly?

Whatever happened to the ideal of a persistent online roleplaying game developers were striving for in the 90s and early 00s? jesus christ, you'd think it'd be such a simple thing to pull off in this modern gaming age. Yet I don't even know how to begin to describe or label the twisted mutant design philosophy behind modern MMOs. They're just cancer. I'm going to kill somebody over this shit.

Square is too afraid to try anything new. The current formula worked in ARR and fixed the massive mess that was 1.0. Their sub count may be dropping, it may not, but until they see a mass exodus they have no reason to try anything to shake up the formula again.

e7214c  No.15434154

Eureka was a good idea on paper but in the end it's just Diadem 2.0. nobody sane will bother with it and the only reason to really grind it out is to get some quick Gil by selling shit you get from lockboxes.

You'll barely meet anyone in Kugane or RR because everyone is still hanging out in Limsa. The only reason to go to the other towns is to get gear in RR and enter Eureka in Kugane. Nobody bothers with them.

The content draught is going strong right now in FFXIV, especially after HoH turned out to be even worse than POTD, which was already awful to begin with. Spending 4 hours just to die from some stupid mechanic is just not worth it. However, the game is far from dead. You can still find more than enough people to do shit with.

Sadly, if you aren't willing to really engage in end game content there's not much for one to do in FFXIV, since you're kinda required to put some effort into being able to suit yourself for endgame. Finding a guild is almost necessary if you don't want to suffer through 50 eventless runs of O8S with pugs.

>FFXIV devs starting to run out of fresh ideas

>implying "new HARDCORE RAID" is fresh, or really even qualifies as an idea

tell me, are they still obsessed with playing jump rope with their aoe detection working as well as it does?

>announce stormblood will have triple the budget of heavensward, the previous expansion

>blow it all on marketing

>create far less content, what is new is mostly just things already in the game with a new coat of paint on top

>noticeable decline in artistic direction, gear recolors aplenty

>cash shop being updated even more frequently

>continuing to double down on diadem/eureka

The game needs a massive shake up, but it's not going to happen anytime soon, if at all.
