I don't think so. It's mostly centered around Catholicism this time around which is alright for me as Catholics lagged behind for a quite a while now. Only some meme heresies were worse. I'm sure Paradox will try to milk the Byzantine nostalgia and will release an Orthodox themed DLC sooner or later. Maybe they will steal the imperial government type and imperial decay from HIP. For Holy Fury they already stole sainthood and the coronation mechanics.

>First of all, we have the road building ability, which is unlocked in the Latin Military Traditions, by the 4th tradition in the Roman path.
>Any army with that tradition and at least 5 cohorts will be able to start building a road towards another city. The movement will be delayed to 20% of normal speed, and the morale is severely reduced as well. When the army reaches the next city, a permanent road is created, giving a movement speed boost of 50% between those two cities.

It's for Anon's HFM Edits, I'm fleshing out stuff for the Celtic Union. So far I've added Y Wladfa, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward and Irish Newfoundland as possible releasable countries (and claimable/annexable as well.)
Y Wladfa gets its cores and Welsh pops around 1865 when a Welsh nationalist guy called Michael Jones requests the Argentine govt permission to settle in the still-unclaimed Chubut Province, around 1885 whoever owns Rawson (Here seen as Porth Madryn) gets an event to extend the Welsh colonies further inland to Esquel; Esquel gets Welsh pops from ENG while Rawson gets its Welsh pops multiplied like tenfold as to represent later migrations.
I've also added a shitton decisions to rename Celtic provinces with proper Celtic names (Like proper Irish and Scottish names for each country were they independent.)
I've never heard of any Polish Colonies in Patagonia, I knew about the Napoleonic Polish deserters in Haiti (Added them already), but I didn't know Poles formed semi-independent communities in the Cono Sur. I mean lots of yuros migrated there so that probably happened at some point. Need me someone from the Cono Sur to tell me all those obscure historical facts I know nothing about.

All tribal rulers(regardless of religion)can summon a tribal army when at war, 2500 troops(consisting mostly of light troops) for 500 prestige. Defensive pagans(Slavic, Romuva etc) can also summon 2000 holy warriors for 200 piety.
I’m actually surprised that’s what y’all’re complaining about and not the increased levy or garrison size. That is what is over-powered. Even when I form the kingdom of Sweden, and vassalize Denmark and the Norwegian OPM’s I can only choose that decision once or twice. 5000 light troops arent gonna do much when the HRE has a massive doom stack
while pagans may be able to spawn more troops than their realm size may indicate, they’re unstable. It’s just a matter of picking off the weaker and smaller realms, fighting them where their armies where the attrition penalty doesnt help them, and converting them with the proselytize action. Pagans cannot send out missionaries, so they can only spread their religion by conquering and converting the provinces themselves.

What really sucks with tribals is when gavelkind hits and they end up with a dozen vassals, then those dozen vassals all spawn prestige armies when you attack.
Unless you go through every count in the realm to see how much prestige and piety they have, you basically need to guess whether they'll rape you or go down easily.
>>15437676
tbh I kind of get it. 1 year is nothing in non-HoI games, if you had any kind of detailed election mechanic or important effects of consuls it would become tedious and annoying to deal with.
Assuming that EU:R2 is going to stay like EU, even minor wars wars will take years and sieges months, so extending the term of a warmongering consul to actually cover the likely period of a war makes sense. Otherwise you'd get a consul with a bonus like "-20% AE from wars" and unless you were already about to win a war it would be useless.

The Dictatorial position wasn't always used but even so if they wanted to 'make characters matter' they could have made ex-consols persist and have them influence bonuses given by the senate given how much influence that former consuls in the senate and randomly roll when they die to change up the bonuses.
07cb1a No.15439128
>>15439081
Paradox wants to make CK2 kind of characters, but that's fucking bullshit. Ancient Rome families didn't work like medieval dynasties, and the game is geared with the player playing a country, not a character. Getting a consul from a different family than usual in power should cause some internal politics turmoil as scales of powers shift, but it shouldn't be something akin to a losing condition, like Paradox's system suggest. If there are to be multiple consuls, then why the fuck not? Have each administer different areas of the state and assign bonuses/malluses based on their skill, personality, and faction. Player managing internal politics of the realm and being constantly on his toes about elections would be a massive improvement over their other titles, as well as actually add to realism. A lot of wars happened not due to some kind of external rivalry, but because someone knew winning wars is a good way to get popular and get elected. If you went ahead and made a quick, victorious war, the militarist faction candidate would gain popularity and more militarists would get into the senate next election. If the war was constly, the opposite would happen. If you actually lost the war, and lost badly, there would be executions of generals and public uproar, with the factions in power plummeting in popularity. It would then be up to the player to try and get capable people from the factions he likes in power.

You are forgetting in HoI4 it is super easy to decade who gets elected and then for them to stay in power. They don't care about making it more interesting and technically somewhat harder. They just want you to meme your way into whatever.
cbab53 No.15439249
So about the consul thing.
They clearly did it because one year is going to last single digit minutes if not less than a minute.
If they want to have heads of state mean anything (and they only do because they already have systems from prior games based on that) then they have to make them last longer. It's simply a matter of laziness; they can't make the game deep enough for a significant number of things to happen in a year, so they just ignore historical things that suggest important things could happen in that timescale.

Like, if the UK produces 1500 boats a month and demands 2000, while Japan demands 500, I'm pretty sure Japan still gets a portion of the boats and the UK doesn't get all 1500. It's literally a combined market, total demand is 2500 and UK gets 4 shares of the total while Japan gets 1 just based on demand. Same way all resources are split evenly across your economy when there is a shortage.

The Bible commands us to avoid cruelty, and to do all we can to provide for the welfare of animals. They not only are part of God’s creation, but they also are among His good gifts to us. When we neglect them or treat them cruelly, however, we are abusing His gifts and ignoring His goodness to us. The prophet Ezekiel condemned those who neglected their flocks: “You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally” (Ezekiel 34:4).

Someone did invade me eventually and it was Britain in the 2nd world war and I repaid them for the opium war by btfoing the shit out of them. Adds a bit more historic accuracy, rebalances military, makes annexing states cost a bit less infamy, adds neat shit like partisans spawning when you occupy a province (it's very rare though) and researching storm troops actually gives you a new unit type which is, you guessed it, storm troops. They're pretty neat, very strong but with weaker defense than normal troops and much more expensive. I don't know if it adds pops but I think it doesn't. Blood and Iron is by far my favourite Victoria 2 mod, it adds a lot without bloating the game and it's pretty similar to vanilla Vicky. It doesn't jerk itself off over Historic accuracy but it also tries to make the game a bit more historic and focuses itself more on important things like game balancing. The dev is also still actively working on it. I know that this sounds like blatant shilling but I really can't say anything I dislike about the mod, it doesn't have as much "what if" decisions as other mods though. I highly prefer it over HPM and it's also better than HFM imo.

Just wait until the colonial overlords bring all those Indians and Javans for more sweet pops. And you can also jingoistically claim Venezuelan Guayana just for the kicks.
I had no idea what flag should I use, so I just looked at the map and saw red, orange and blue where each GP held its chunk of Guyana. Thought it'd be fun to use those three colors in that particular arrangement as the country's national flag.
Doesn't make much sense since the country's primary and accepted cultures are niggers, creoles, indians and javanese and they ought to hate their former colonial overlords, but honestly, who gives a shit?

I could certainly copy the stuff I made for the Celtic Union; you get to choose the culture along with the capital (Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Manx, Cornish, Breton or Ulster-Scot) and the state religion, shouldn't be too much trouble porting that shit to Guyana with its respective cultures and possible capitals.
I was also going to add a decision for unified India to claim its diaspora workers all over the world (like in the Caribbean, Guyanas, South Africa, Fiji and Mauritius & Reunion.) Be it by bringing them back home or laying claims on the territories where they live, maybe I'll just let them claim where they're majority (Trinidad & Tobago and the Guyanas) and call it a day.>>15453467

Well, there's Kaiserreich for both DH and HoI4 but the lore behind it and the justifications for why the world turned out that way are pretty shit. It somehow combines German wank and leftist fantasies about a big world-wide proletariat revolution. The devs behind it always were huge cucks and heavily leaned left on the political spectrum. However the new ones are even worse. In the Kaiserreich for HoI4 only the commie side is properly flashed out and syndicates are very much railroaded into becoming big and powerful. Playing as nationalists is an uphill battle as you lack events, decisions and national focuses. What ultimately kills mods big as this is the never ending petty drama, backstabbing, childish rivalries, laziness and the general lack of talent and coherent vision. After all, special snowflake syndrome and delusions of grandeur are the most prevalent occupational diseases among modders.

I really don't get it why anyone would want play the earliest start dates in CK2. The mechanics aren't particularly good at depicting the main period of high middle ages; for earlier dates they are completely attrocious. And why would anyone want more game time, when you can easily do any blobbing you could want in a century (or two if you start as a particularly shitty count), even if you could tolerate the gradual loss of performance from overlong games? Is meme-paganry really that much fun?
Tangent, my favourite start date is are the oens with the Latin Empire. Christianity in the east is dramatically at a knife's edge and the Mongols are about to wreck everyone's shit in without the player's OP blob there to immediatly stop them. I've fleshed them out since then, now whenever you play as a Celtic nation you'll obtain IRE from ENG in a VERY BAD state (as it was tbh) so you'll have to save them by investing shekels (to prevent the Irish famine) or facing the same consequences as ENG would have. Sounds like railroading. You should instead strive to create conditions that make it very hard for them to get sufficient research points. For example shit like a modifier lowering educational efficiency, describing how half the country is still basically uncvilised with primitive inhabitants. You'd then add a decision to get rid of this mallus, which would however requite a lot of shit from the player to do (maybe railroads, sufficient industrail score, school reform, etc.?)

Alright I'll clarify things since it was like 2 am when I posted this:
unciv_tech_school's name is 'developing academia' which gives a malus of -20% to army_tech_research_bonus, commerce_tech_research_bonus, culture_tech_research_bonus, industry_tech_research_bonus and navy_tech_research_bonus; so basically what you're doing is researching shit at an even slower rate due to your inherently low literacy. This tech school is what uncivs have upon westernizing and also Haiti's and Dominican Republic's tech school.
You can switch to traditional academia by having either 45 prestige (seems kinda low tbh) or having a literacy of >25%, enlightenment_thought, late_enlightenment_philosophy, post_napoleonic_thought, flintlock_rifles, post_nelsonian_thought, clipper_design, private_banks, no_standard, piston_steam_engine and mechanical_production techs enabled; basically everything on the first row of research. Deducts 15 prestige and gives the academic_confusion country malus for 10 years which seems kinda like a load of shit to me, same when changing tech schools as a normal civ; might change these values in the future.
Now, this got me thinking: What if I make a new tech school for Spics and/or t*rks and Balkan countries and MAYBE even Boer republics, Texas/Oregon and Eastern Europeans sans Russia since they have a shitton of events regarding their technology/Caucasus? In line with what >>15468693 said, could look like this:
developing_country_tech_school = {
army_tech_research_bonus = -0.15
commerce_tech_research_bonus = -0.15
culture_tech_research_bonus = -0.15
industry_tech_research_bonus = -0.15
navy_tech_research_bonus = -0.15
# Still lower than recently-westernized uncivs.
education_efficiency_modifier = -0.1 # -10% education efficiency, kind of a lot all things considered.
issue_change_speed = -0.25 # Issues won't change that much over time, pops will tend to keep an autistic interest on their current issues (like universal suffrage or abolition of slavery) since they don't have much contact with the outside world.
factory_owner_cost = 0.25 # Makes sense that factories would be a lot more expensive since you're a shithole in the assfuck of nowhere with barely any eligible pops to employ.
import_cost = 0.25 # Again, you're a shithole in the assfuck of nowhere where not many people dare venture to sell their stuff; they're very eager to buy your goods however, since they're probably fancy cash crops.
}
Now, adding to this, I could also push non_state_culture_literacy even lower down to abysmal levels (since unaccepted pops tend to be the indigenous people.) In order to get rid of these maluses you'd have to:
>A. low_schools or higher enabled
>B. Industrial_score of at least 50 (maybe 100, what do you guys think?)
>C. Literacy higher than 25%
>D. At least one province has_building = railroad and has researched early_railroad
>E. No prestige requirement. Why is this even a thing?
d73aaa No.15469078
>>15469044
And also, instead of the new tech, I could add triggered modifiers (for those who don't know, it's the modifier you get while holding the panama/suez/kiel canal or have low education spending) with the same aforementioned maluses, which you could remove by fulfilling the aforementioned conditions (so the education malus goes away when you have X literacy and low schools enabled.)
So in the end, I could give those developing nations the unciv_tech_school (recently westernized uncivs as well) along with the new triggered modifiers in order to make things more realistic.
d73aaa No.15469093
>>15469078
Or maybe instead of a triggered modifier (since those don't show up in the beginning, meaning the player doesn't really know they're there unless they make the modifier go away somehow) I could make normal country modifiers and several decisions to remove them.

Paradox got most of the Chilean geography wrong (and south america in general), the regions are too few (as an example santiago is located in a valley yet the terrain is mountains) also santiago produces grain yet in reality also produces fruit (also most of the southern regions would produce fish and wood), the regions of Chile also are too big since Santiago, again as an example, in the game also covers the landmass of other regions and cities that produces iron and fruit (Rancagua and other minor towns), rewarding Cauquenes RGO, the coal mining industry boomed in the region arround the 1890, one of the most famous mines was "El Chiflon del Diablo", having coal as RGO would make much more sense than just having fish or iron (also caquenes reprecents the landmass of most of the central south coast of Chile plus the city of Concepción) .
i wanted to talk about this long ago, rewarding south american geography, paradox just messed up the provinces in general, also the fact that Victoria II uses a disproportionated flat map also contributes in this, take how europe seems to be as wide as south america and big as Brazil, the landmass proportions are all wrong int the game, they seem to just have recycled the map from HoI2 makes me think that Vicky2 is a bad game even more and i have been playing this since 2011

But you'd be westernized, just with a bunch of shit maluses. Doesn't really make much sense that underdeveloped nations are automatically western just like that. I feel like there needs to be something else, also they're by no means hard (LatAm nations), maybe underpowered (and with reason, low accepted pops and the stuff you mentioned before), but not hard.
I wanted to make something representing their underdevelopment (whether in LatAm, Balkans. Eastern Europe, the Caucasus or Boer republics), since you can't just pop up from an awful hegemonic rule (or be a post-colonial nation) and say 'lel we're westernized just like you, bro', there REALLY needs to be something else to represent your backwardness. I don't want my independent Georgia or my Boer republic in the assfuck of nowhere to have the same level of research as fucking Germany or GB, there needs to be something dragging me down, not shit pops mind you, but something representing the backwardness of your realm.
Also I wouldn't just add those maluses to those countries, but I think uncivs should get them too somehow.
I mean I get it they spics have abysmal literacy and no bureaucrats, but that's easily fixed by like the 1850-60's, by the 80's I had like 75% literacy rate as GCO in several playthroughs. All I seek is a bit more difficulty so the fruit of my labor is sweeter.

I admit I've added a TON of provinces, but they kinda represent important events/decision I've also implemented into the game.
Also look at it this way, a province represents a certain number of irl municipalities centered around a capital city, the fact that Santiago's located in a valley doesn't mean that the rest of the provinces aren't mountainous or something. That's my take on it, I could change Santiago's terrain to Farmlands, but it'd still look odd considering it's got part of the Andean range behind.

No anon, you would be suffering from most of the shit that makes playing unciv difficult without none of the advantages, wich in a gameplay sense is completely assbackwards.
>Doesn't really make much sense that underdeveloped nations are automatically western just like that
Anon, latin america has been colonized and westernized for longer than the US, claiming latin american nations are not westernized is a completely wrong use of the word.
The causes for the current state of the region is not because they were backwards for the time the game starts, but dues to the civil wars, low population, poverty and other thigns that went on as the 19th and 20th century went on.
>but not hard.
This would make them harder to play and more useless than uncivilized nations anon, theres absolutely no way to pretend this is realistic in any way, shape or form.
>and say 'lel we're westernized just like you, bro'
But they were anon, these areas have been settled since the early 16th century, we are not talkign about a couple houses in the middle of a jungle, by this point there have been hospitals and universities that have been working for centuries.
>I don't want my independent Georgia or my Boer republic in the assfuck of nowhere to have the same level of research as fucking Germany or GB
Thats what the low literacy levels and awfull gov efficency are meant to represent, with also how much hard is for all the backwards nations to promote pops compared to europe.
>but that's easily fixed by like the 1850-60's
Wich is precisely the point anon, had these countries not gone through so many civil wars and awfull goverments they wouldnt have stagnated and degraded, the moment you take the country you represent the best goverment possible.

An early westernized China usually breaks the economy, and the unciv rebels actually help that by slowing the progress down and keeping China unciv till the early 20th century. Its sort of a modder's compromise, because other than artificially slowing down their westernization there is really nothing else you can do, but that would hurt the player too.
I just position my armies near the capital and wait for the rebels to slowy occupy the country (some of them disappear) and bait them into attacking the capital with a small army, then sending everything I have there. With an OK defensive general (+2) and army reform focus it shouldn't be a problem at all. And your substates will help you unsieging the provinces.

>I thought the definition of "empire" was "have territories on multiple continents"?
>What about HRE then? I thought the definition was "Be bigger than your average kingdom"
King = Person divinely appointed to rule over their people. e.g. "King of the French" or "King of the English".
Emperor = One step up, rules over multiple kingdoms of people. Basically an expression of might and hegemony. Hence why the Austrian empire was a thing, they ruled over the Hungarians, Czechs, and so on.
The HRE in particular claimed the legacy of the Roman Empire and in its medieval years controlled significant non-German territory, enough to be deemed an empire. But it eventually decayed to the point where it was just an overblown and dysfunctional Kingdom of the Germans, hence the Voltaire quip.

>Also, shouldnt ecuador have claims over the northern part of the peruvian amazon? They had 3 wars over it.
They own Yuncos which is a part of the modern Peruvian Amazon, the rest is owned by Colombia in 1836. Colombia's also holding a quarter of the modern Brazilian Amazon state, half of which is also claimed by Peru.
There's also a bunch of other petty territorial disputes between Peru and Bolivia not shown in the pics.

Are the claims transferable between states?
Say, GCO inheriting the claims of all the countris that form it or peru-bolivia uniting getting all the claims.
Would make sense imo, its a bunch of mostly irrelevant clay anyway.
0c293c No.15479052
>>15478914
Yes, Gran Colombia, Peru-Bolivia, FRCA, Antillean Confederation and La Plata inherit the claims from every sub-country upon formation. I've also taken the liberty of coding some decisions for reforming a puppet GCO, PBC, ANT and LPL as a GP just like you do with the FRCA. You can also do the same with Guyana, the Dutch Antilles and the Franco-British Caribbean, uniting them as a puppet; any non-ai GP can do this.
I disabled this option for the ai for obvious reasons. You'd have the Angl*s or the USA controlling the whole continent in no time.

Before i dont recall if you could do anything but annex them.
0c293c No.15479113
>>15479063
The Spanish Caribbean has always been realasable. Some of the Anglo and French islands were releasable too (Martinique and Trinidad & Tobago.) lel I forgot to mention I've added Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao as releasables, as well as Grenada, Barbados and Guadeloupe. The Dutch Antilles can unite under one government as the Nederlandse Antillen (While getting claims on Philipsburg which currently has no cores) and the British and French Islands can unite as well as the West Indies Federation; I've also added decisions for them to choose their main culture and religion.
Similarly, there's also another country called Caribbean Federation, which has always been available for HPM/HFM, and it works similarly to the West Indies Federation (That's where I got their flags from) but it's only formable by ENG; it's inspired on the IRL West Indies Federation.

I remenber reading some time ago that fighting spain to kick them out of cuba and puerto rico was part of bolivar's plan after he stabilized the grand colombia, but then sucre died and all the plans went to shit.

Can someone explain how VeF is supposed to work?
My understanding is:
>Conquering means you need a "governance" level in order to core and have your country not shit itself up.
>Only way to lower the governance required to hold provinces is to grant them to nobles.
>granting provinces is an incredibly slow process that also causes a huge amount of corruption.
Is this right and there's no avoiding this? It seems ridiculous that granting provinces to nobles takes so long and is going to have me at 100 corruption soon. My required governance only goes down by 0.01 a month, I'll probably max out at 100 corruption just trying to hold Byzantine cores I retook.

I haven't really thought about that, but you can always kick Spain out if you put enough effort and become a GP, it's not like they're a superpower anyways. Still, any more suggestions are welcome.

i am trying to introduce myself to victoria 2 modding, i dont unestand how the "meant_time_to_happen" works, the months indicate the month where the modifiers applied? and the modifiers have a "factor" that equals a decimal number and a year, what does the "factor" mean? googling doesnt bring up much since most of the guides are for boolean triggers
d19b11 No.15480373
>>15480268
Mean time to happen. You understand what a mean is?
MTTH of 12 months = 50% chance of happening every year.
Factor = multiplier to the MTTH if the condition is fulfilled. So say you have a factor that should cause an event to happen half as often. Then it has factor = 2, and when fulfilled the MTTH is now 24 months or 25% chance per year.

debatable, they are more social_democrats
>Bolivia is super butthurt about the sea access, because unlike the irrelevant land in the amazon or the pampa, there were actual populations there and it was important for their economy
it was just because of the saltpeter extraction that isnt even profitable today thanks to modern chemistry, also the population in the salpeter towns were mixed, the industry attracted a loot of migrants, also "they" are butthurts or just seem to be because of populists politicians that promises to recover the sea access lost in the war, decades of the same thing made the people think that it's like a normal rightfull thing to demands claims that they already lost in 1906 by signing a border treaty (the treaty is present in HFM as a desition).

Alta California now has proper Spanish names. I always thought this area was severely neglected and needs a lot of changes, especially more Mexican settlers here and there as well as that one Californio dude who tried to secede from Mexico by doing a coup as the governor of Alta California. It's funny how you can rename Texas upon conquering them as Mexico, while some of your Alta California provinces remain with anglo names.

Look at Myanmar, the Buddhists are killing muzzies left and right and the Democratic Socialist government turn the blind eye. It would probably be fitting. It was part of the reforms under Maria Theresa in 1774, and made six years of schooling compulsory for both boys and girls, both in the countryside (usually overseen by the priest + the wealthiest local landholder who handled the financing) and in the cities (where they had actual professional teachers). It was an attempt at germanising the Austrian minorities, since only the lower years were taught in the local language while the higher ones were in German and Latin. This backfired and blew into Austria's face, however, especially in up until then fairly loyal Bohemia, when Czechs a) realised there's a culture war being waged against them, b) found themselves with a shitloads more free men after serfdom got abolished in Austria in 1773, and c) now had the educational institutions necessary to educate the ex-serfs and create a nationalistic intelligence, after the bohemian education system got decimated when, also in 1773, the Pope aboslished the Jesuite order (which owned the majority of schools in Bohemia).
This shit then resulted in Czech nationalism, but also in the creation of "austro-slavism", an idea opposite to better known pan-slavism which advocated federalisation of Austria, where the slavic nations would gain large degrees of autonomy, but stay firmly within the Austrian Empire. After the bloody supression of the Prague revolt in 1848, the idea lost support in favour of panslavism, and the creation of A-H in 1867 then definitely killed it, as the "compromise" infuriated all the slavs within A-H to an extreme degree
