There was a huge thread about it but here is the short and sweet:

Swinging is sub par. At first it sucks but it gets better the more you play but only to a point, it's nowhere near as good as Spiderman 2 though they did add acrobatic tricks back in.

Combat is like arkham but a little bit more control is given to you on what you want to do and the aerial combat is decent.

The story is basically spiderman 2 but a little different. Not great, not bad. The forced story parts where you play as ACE INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST MARY JANE WATSON!!! are shit.

As is the part where you play as Miles, thank god they are very short.

There is a lot of decent shit to do, interesting missions like being a spiderbot and walking through the city, delivering pizza. stuff like that.

Look overall the game is OK. It's not bad, it's not good, and truthfully while at first glance the game is full of pozz if you take time to actually listen it isn't. Case in point: Halloween party happens, Not a single broad is wearing a skimpy outfit. Alright irked me some.

Then comes a listen into JJJ's podcast where some guy said that his girlfriend bought a "Sexy spider-girl" costume and it was hot as fuck.

6/10 wait for a sale don't bother buying it new.

I will add having mister negative as the main villain is pretty interesting and the suit themed super powers like Blasting everyone with a Guitar Rift with Spider-Punk. Or making it to where no one can call for help if the spot you with Noir spiderman is pretty neat, but ideally pointless as Web Blossom, what you get with the original costume is so OP at taking out groups in one go there is no need to do anything else

My biggest issue with the game is the “auto swing”. Taking away control from the player doesn’t make them feel like spider-man, it makes you feel like you’re along for the ride. It’s such a small thing but being able to hold onto a single web as long as you want makes a lot of difference.

Okay so about that, and I said that in the last thread.

It's not 100% automatic. If you want to stop and dangle on the thread You just have to let go of the joystick, Spiderman will just hold onto the strand and not let go until he eventually just goes into his upside down pose.

I've also learned that if you let go of your thread right at the lowest point of your swing or just after it, you propel yourself forward and then you just Push and hold r2 again to swing with greater speed.

However, if you just hold R2 and forward on the joystick, you can autoswing, albeit very slowly and janky, but it will just autoswing for you all the way to your destination.

Ehhhhhhhhh, okay so I was able to do it and I just hung there and then let go of the web and it let me drop down, but, I also found out that if you swing too close to a building you just auto stick to it. So it's sort of tricky.

Well I mean what I've started doing is instead of just beating an enemy to KO, I've initated a juggle pushing them towards a wall and then webbing them up to a wall, also I found that you can juggle multiple web swing kicks and eventually throw enemies into other enemies off a building.

The suit powers give you some fun to, if they are standing in water and you electrocute one of them, any one else standing in the water gets electrocuted too.

I think Spiderbro is pretty alright to use as well.

I'll say this though I thi m neither of us are saying the combat is bad, just that it takes a lot from Batman.

I've been thinking, are there any Spider-Man games where the swinging part feels like you're playing a Tony Hawk game? Where instead of swinging just to get from point A to point B you're trying to swing around using as many stunts and cool tricks as possible while getting ranked for it. Swinging around in NYC could lend itself very well as a massive skatepark. There could even be special objects such as a giant donut on top of a donut shop where you can fly through the center hole if you time it right.

Enemy variety is pretty lacking. Enemies seem to have set properties to do one task given to them. I've seen a shield guy have his shield taken from them and go to pick it up again but I don't think other enemies can pick it up as well. I don't think you will ever see a Tank pick up an electric baton or rocket launcher.

Even though bosses may have different patterns, it comes down to stunning them and Triangle press instead of actually fighting them with the tools available to you. That also goes for the preset chase sequences where you waste a set amount of time until it gives you the appropriate button press to end the sequence.

I watched the full playthrough while being sick, and it seems like a good, quality game with lots of good things going on for fans of the franchise, and if you happen to be someone who has never played Ass Creed, Nu Raider, Horizon, BamHams, Watch Dogs or any other city open world travel sim with loads of side fetchs quests and challenges to trot the main story, it might actually feel amazing. But other than the once again nice looking web swing mechanics similar to Spiderman 2, I wouldn't be too hyped.

Aside from the graphical downgrade some of the cutscenes look almost life-like, it's jarring because some characters look almost beyond uncanny valley real but the other has hair that looks like pixel soup.

It probably uses the same trick TASM 2 used, in that game you always had moonswining but it only triggered in areas where it would technically be possible to actually swing and otherwise you just got a Spidey one liner about how he can't swing here. TASM 2 sadly had the problem that the Devs didn't have enough time to finish that system and you could still webswing in a lot of areas where it wouldn't be possible, thus breaking the illusion of actual webswinging. I enjoyed Shattered Dimensions, but it's honestly not that great. Instead of having an open world each Spider-Man has a gimmick. For example: Noir Spider-Man levels are all stealth based and 2099 Spider-Man has all these levels where you're falling and have to dodge stuff. The story is OK and it's neat they got various actors who already voiced Spider-Man in the past do provide voices for the Spider-Men in this game. I'd say it's only worth a play if you're really fucking into Spider-Man

You can knock them into the air execute a combo yank someone else into the air repeat. Perform a kick by using your web in the air. shoot someone with a limited use strong web and pin them to a wall back flip off an enemy grapple onto one bounce from a wall during a dodge to counterattack. Web someone up and throw them at someone etc. I never played any batman gamed and just listing this out. The combat is fine and slightly more in depth than I expecteud definitely a step in the right direction and will hopefully encourage other triple A’s to do the same.

Yes it was, the arkham series was amazing and you can tell because every other game featuring melee combat since then copied something from it.

Most games that feature stealth simply copy paste bamham's stealth (ie retarded AI, and holding down R2 to crouch and choke them from behind), x-ray vision and being able to climb and get to a vantage point where you can pick your next target.

That lord of the rings game copied the combat entirely, the only thing they didn't ape was vaulting over enemies, you roll between their legs instead.

Asscreed revamped their combat system to let you cancel every attack into a counter, in 1 and 2 you had to time your counters in order to instakill, in newer asscreeds you just press triangle whenever and kill them.

Even the fucking witcher went from some awkward ass melee to full-on bamham combat but a lot clunkier, it also lets you spam the roll to dodge everything like if it were a fucking kingdom hearts game.

Spiderman ps4 ripped off a shitload of things i'm still not sure how the fuck they didn't get sued: x-ray vision, vantage point, special combos (ie hit an enemy 5x times and press two buttons for batswarm, ground takedown, throw etc), a reskinned beatdown where spodermen pelts the mooks with his webbing, dedicated counter button (circle instead of triangle), dedicated dodge button and the last fight against the monochrome guy is a complete rip-off of ra's al ghul fight in arkham city, right down to him being a massive torso that throws shit at you and having clones of himself sprouting from the ground, ganging up on spodermen and having to press square in order to free him, except this time you're forced to play as goblina jane in order to beat him because spodermen is apparently incompetent and couldn't have done it without her help.

Peter Parker has a pretty inconsistent history when it comes to being a genius. A lot of writers just kind of forget that he was naturally smart as fuck before his powers, and instead they just ran with him as a smartass teenager who joked and snarked his way through everything, using his spidey-sense to cheat his way through everything else.

Also, he gets away with a whole lot of handwavery when it comes to his physical abilities. Enhances reflexes, agility, and strength are nice and all, but nothing could make anyone instantly able to fight the way Spidey does.. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko did Spider-Man the best. Ever since the original incarnation, the writers that have been given SM books have slowly ruined his character (which went into overdrive after OMD).

There was a drawback in that he has to refill them (although this is pretty much ignored in the newer incarnations with web shooters). It was a common occurrence that he'd have to check his web shooters before fighting a villain.

I'm not sure they even tested these side missions because even with a mostly full set of skills and a level of 40+, you lose health so quickly for even minor hits. The later base missions difficulty gets cranked up to 11 for no reason. The combat gets completely broken when there are too many enemies on screen, especially with gunners and rpg guys in the mix. It's not possible to perfectly dodge and fight grunts if you happen to be surrounded by 4 gunners or rpg guys because of their homing attack that can chip your health in half in mere seconds. Either that 10+ health increase is very small or the enemies scale with you which makes leveling seem pointless. Even with abusing electro punch and electo web, it can be pretty tough to survive a wave without getting caught in a bullshit attack. I've seen 4 gunners shoot at completely the same time and take health down to 25% in an instant. Playing those last few base segments really shows how shallow combat can become.

I've watched a playthrough of it and I can say it's just a high-budget Spider-Man game. Nothing that will re-invent the spidey formula but polished enough if you cant handle some of the older games jank.

I'm going to go really autistic into the web-slinging, it mediocre. The game doesn't punish you for making mistakes. If you crash into the wall, you automatically run-up it. So you can play like a complete retard and you'll still keep your momentum. And while the webs do attach to buildings, its not truly physics based. The web swinging animations will play earlier when your closer to the ground so you don't hit it. He also can wall run extremely fast, somehow defying the laws of gravity by going faster up a 60-feet building then his sprint. He also has the ability to quickly gain momentum from bouncing off poles and chimneys. Whilst its cool at first, it only plays the one animation. Insomniac gave us a decent web swinging, but they never take off the training wheels.

The combat is basically Arkham and the story is a Spider-Man 2 but dumber. Everyone wants Norman Osborn dead, so Doc releases a fucking bio-weapon and gets mocked by Norman for being an autistic retard. Peter is just as retarded as well. He works on his spider-man suits at his job and sucks at being Spider-Man. Miles is also in this game but he's not that bad. What's bad is that your force to play sections with him and MJ. All of the MJ scenes take place in the past and they destroy the flow of the story. Mr. Negative is the more interesting villain but he's used as a red hearing for Doc Ock.

The graphics are alright, but holy fuck are the characters ugly, the women specifically. MJ is supposed to look like a Victoria Secret model, but she comes out looking like a average jane. Black Cat looks like a tranny, and Pete looks like a mixed jew. They also fucked up the reflections, they either have 2D interiors that repeat, or cube maps that look like they belong in GTA 3. Hell, Spider-Man 2000 had better reflections

If you want to play a good Spiderman game, just play Web of Shadows, it has better combat, better web swinging and a pretty decent story
