People actually agree to this?

f2b4f6  No.15423786

Tell me now that you have read every single EULA for every single game you have ever downloaded, and I'll believe you.

Hard mode: don't lie

I'm not defending them, but you seem genuinely surprised that people are stupid and lazy.

5b4a51  No.15423796

Not trying to defend the botnet, but if they can't store that information then they can't make sure your account isn't being used to download games into a million computers.

People don't, no. Spics do however.

bd5428  No.15423820

Yeah, EA pulls a lot of shit, but an online service that doesn't store your IP address is pretty much impossible.

Doesn't matter, it's still illegal activity that you could take them to court over if you could prove that they have stored this private information in a database or something.

I honestly don't think that part was there before. I usually check out the consent for data sections. I quit Blizzard for the exact same reason and some more since they also required access to one's social media AND to be able to ban you for out of game behavior.

>what is GOG

IP storing is wholly unnecessary beyond what the underlying protocol requires during the downloading of the game's files and >multiplayer interactions. Consumers should be able to validate their downloads from wherever the fuck they want by using designated login credentials.

IP mining is for control freaks and the only justifiable use they might see is being sold off to third party advertisers, which is disgusting in itself.

755ec2  No.15424144

The legality of modern EULAs is debatable.

Reminder that depending on what software you installed potentially you agreed to be an indentured servant.

Yes really

9a5668  No.15424167

>>15423768

All modern proprietary consumer software does this, for example anything from google which I'm sure 99% here use. There is just so much money in spying on you it would be stupid not to do it, and you goys don't care about your data, only about it being convenient and free.

410ca4  No.15424188

My favorite EULA was the one for a shareware game where after the boilerplate the guy wrote something to the effect of "this game is shit, and I was a dumbass for expecting anyone to mail me money for it, here is the serial: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX". I played the game for months before reinstalling once and scrolling down the EULA for kicks.

**Game is Mutant Chicken Races. Its moderately amusing."

410ca4  No.15424203

>they can't make sure your account isn't being used to download games into a million computers.

How about checking if the ACCOUNT is downloading the same game 5000 times in an hour you dense fuck?

a18341  No.15424206

Every modern application under the sun collects this kind of data. No, that doesn't make it right, I'm just saying that nobody should be surprised by this. Anyway, these legal documents care more about making sure it's clear that 1) you don't own nothing goy, 2) you have no rights, 3) you cannot sue us for any reason whatsoever (e.g. no class action lawsuits, we want to handle any disputes outside of court), and 4) you agree to behave under our code of conduct or we will terminate your account.

With that in mind, you as an individual are not particularly interesting; they collect data and build a profile on you so they can refine their game and its various components to the lowest common denominator, and then also possibly sell that information to third parties so they can then advertise bullshit to you. These corporate entities can't really do any more than your local government can to infringe on your rights. Worry more about how da gubmint is spying on you, it's a more important concern.

Hypothetically if you had the time and money and good lawyer, could you circumvent the installer to avoid the EULA, install it anyways, then submit a FOIA request to see that they have in fact stored your information without consent?

>>15424206

Except the government doesn't need to spy on anyone to ruin everything for everyone.

675fe6  No.15425880

If you're offline it's not an issue.

If you're going online how do you think they're going to identify you as a player? They need your IP address, obviously, because they need to send you data, and your device ID, since there might be more than one device on that IP.

I'm not defending EA, they're complete and utter shit, but saying they're evil for telling you they need an IP and a MAC address?

You're either ignorant or a troll.

The ID lock is what is unnecessary and it's not the inevitable IP tracking that is what I am worried about but the IP STORING.

>EULAs often ask you to waive the right to sue them

This "often" is the case, but it's specifically scarier that you can't sue them for storing your personal data than just suing them because niggerball simulator 9.001 offended you with inaccuracies of some colombian's character's bio.

Even 8chan logs your IP address, or at least it used to with the Sunshine system. As far as spyware goes, this is tame as shit.

bbfd04  No.15427523

>>15423768

People don't agree to EULAs, they click the button that says "I agree to the EULA" without actually expecting anybody to seriously read it, because it's written in legalese rather than plan language. No court expects the average citizen to read or parse legalese, and thus anything written in legalese is thus not binding to anybody but lawyers.

This, I don't get it why anyone except some hyper-Jewish lawyers would think this is a legally binding contract.

You are forced to agree to EULAs in order to use the software you bought (licensed), and the agreement you "sign" is intentionally as difficult to understand as they can possibly make it. From the standpoint of an end-user, it's just another thing you have to click in order for your fucking software to install. And if you don't agree to it, you are completely unable to use your software and probably cannot return it. Even if there are passages can't realistically be legally binding due to how absurd they are, you have no choice but to accept to use your fucking software.

I know we live in absurd times, but for some piece of shit EULA be considered a legal document still is mind-boggling. The fact these things aren't considered archaic relics of the digital early-years yet is a tragedy.

Almost every forum and website looks at your IP. Games regularly look at your IP. Server owners can see your IP. Skype publicly showed your IP, that's how top-tier arena players would get DDoSed.
