Only played the first one because it had fun multiplayer and coop. Hooking up several consoles together and playing 8-16 players was pretty awesome back in the early 2000's when not everyone in your social circle had powerful computers or fast internet connections.

The newer games in the series can't play split screen or on an offline LAN anymore. If you want to play with friends everybody involved has to have an xbox live membership, a copy of the game and their own console. Not a surprise the community has died off.

The villains also want to activate the Halo, because they think that's how they can get into alien-Heaven and because they claim their gods said to do it. Their "gods" (the Forerunners) didn't want them to activate the Halo for no reason because that would destroy all life in the universe, but they're basically a bunch of space Catholics who do the exact opposite of what their "gods" wanted them to do because they're fucking retarded and hate humanity. The "oracle", an AI built by the Forerunners which they treat as a divine prophet that speaks the will of their gods, outright tells them that humanity are the Forerunners' chosen ones and that they should, basically, venerate and serve humanity. The first Halo was just okay-ish. Nice graphics, great sound, and interesting plot made up for some rather dull gameplay. You could see why casuals like that shit, at least.

Then the second one was mostly crap. The PC port was Vista-only back when everyone was clinging to XP (and there was a hack for that, proving there was no technical reason in the first place). Nope. No real augmentations in the Covenant races. Some genetic divergence in some species but nothing like the spartan program. Supposedly the Elite's combat harness does increase strength and endurance but I can't remember where I heard that.

Some of the Halo books are okay reads, entertaining but nothing amazing. The novelization of Combat Evolved was interesting, added some new things for the background, filled in some holes and answered some questions.

Halo lore's one of the best things the series had going for it. Captain King was part of a super soldier program where he and many others were abducted as children and put through severe drug treatment, training, and hormone treatment. I think there was a few hundred of successfully bred Spartans in the same program called Spartan-II. The majority of the Spartans were lost in the first battles with the covenant and what is so interesting is that these super soldiers that represented the peak of human potential were primarily wiped out by this alien force, setting their standard elite as the same or greater than the utmost in human physical achievement. It's even done in the games as well, all the marines are shorter than you, but an Elite towers over you.

The Human Race has began colonizing many planet and the Super Government that governs all the colones starts acting sorta greedy so many of the colones try to overthrow there control over there planet so that Government begans develop super weapons to test suppress these insurrectionists. While drifting through space they find a bunch of cultist aliens that belief in glassing anyone who doesn't join there cult of diverse fagget aliens. These fagget start raping all humans to find (((RELIGIOUS ARTIFACTS))) also they all live in a massive one of these artifacts. The cult is much stronger and wins every battle glassing every colony the Humans ever made. Anyway the humans obtain some of there advanced tech and use it to make better weapon. Of course humans are still far more fragil then any one else so no matter how good the tactic they use it fails. So humans make a tank-like set of armor that can not only match what they have but is insanely effective. Anyway, the Aliens find one of the Humans Largest and most populated colony and completely overwhelm them glassing the planet. All ships and people evac and scramble away. The Piller of Autumn is one of those ships and hold the most important man in the Universe, Spartan 117, Master Chief. When the ship is escaping it stumbles apon one of those gay artifacts and an entire convenient fleet is after them. Since the Ship is basically fucked they evac on to the artifact know has Halo leaving the captain who gets captured. They blow it up because the Cult of Fagget where gonna mass genocide all life with it. Chief and some other nobodies escape the Fleet. Master Chief is a hero for 5 minutes then a cult fagget ship accident finds earth one of the last places humans are on. The Invasion of Earth begins whipping out billions. Master Chief decides its a good idea to board an alien cult ship that is about to go into hyper drive in it atmosphere killing more. Chief finds out they found a second Halo and won't let human take it away again

Plasma melts though shields pretty quickly in canon and blows giant gaping holes in flesh. The only reason Spartans can keep fighting half the time is because they inject a medical foam to fill in the massive holes, even then that's only a temporary fix. The 4th gens are augmented using a process that's more refined and safer than the original and their armor technically better than Master Chief's. The reason that the 2nd gen spartans were considered superior and special, is because they were hand picked for being the mental, physical, and genetic cream of the crop from multiple, not just one, human controlled worlds. Even 3rd gens which used a cheaper and inferior process made it where 300 of them could rip and tear thousands of covenant, to the point where the they couldn't do shit in close quarters due to the 3rd gen's superior reflexes alone.

the tl;dr about the Spartan IIs is basically that CIAniggers secretly kidnapped 100 or so hand-picked children to be turned into augmented super-soldiers from childhood to use as an elite force to head off the potential rebellions that were brewing as humanity expanded and the central government lost its grip. The attrition rates from training and augmentation were extremely high but the few dozen that remained were basically turned into inhuman, sexless killing machines and actually got in some field experience, where they performed even better than advertised. Then, after encountering the Covenant, the CIAniggers reverse engineered the power armor that the elites used and made versions for the Spartan IIs. Between the training, augmentations and power armor the S-IIs could do things like kill a banshee pilot in the air, dodge a missile in flight, throw armored vehicles, shrug off fire from .50 cal. machine guns, run at 50kph for several days straight and (with a bit of luck) survive an unassisted orbital drop.

Of course, this is nothing like the games so many people have been disappointed since 2001.

In any case, game mechanics aren't canonical to Halo: Halo gives a shit about it's lore and it's been repeatedly established that concessions made for the sake of gameplay or hardware limitations in the games aren't canonical. The books establish canon for details like your example.

They have. Pretty much every weapon the UNSC uses uses larger calibers then the weapon's modern day equivalent: The MA5 series rifles (IE, the assault rifle) uses 7.62 rounds despite more or less being the UNSC's version of the M4, their shotguns use 8 guage, their sniper rifles are all using anti material rounds, etc.

Yes, the travis books have issues, but since then basically every novel has been at least around Fall of Reach's level of quality or better. And even in the travis books they haven't "made halsey into "an evil, feminist bitch". Halsey has nothing to go damn do with it, and Halsey isn't evil, she's just morally grey, and she always fucking has been, even in Fall of Reach.

Also, there was nothing wrong with the Rookie's death either aside from Mickey's retarded reasoning for going innie. People in Halo die ungloriously all the time in Halo, it's one of the reasons I enjoy the lore so much: It protays that war is shitty and shit happens, and not everybody can go out in a super heroic way. The Rookie in particuylar is actually one of the smartest people to kill off anyways since he wasn't really being used for anything and personality wise he has nothing unique going for him or as a character, which means that they don't close off any narrative opportunities by killing him off. Plus, had he lived, he'd just become a Spartan IV anyways, which would ruin the one cool part of his character (Being a badass normal human)

I can't praise the forerunner novels enough. They handle both the foreunners and flood way better then I ever imagined they would be if they actually delved into them deep. There's an insane amount of worldbuilding in them, and they manage to make the forerunners feel legitimately advanced rather then just "modern tech but SUPER FUTURISTIC" or magic flavored as technology. The flood come off as shit you'd find in cosmic horror, and as a whole the novels are as much cosmic horror as they are sci-fi and do a fucking good job of it, and the scale of the stuff they talk about comes off as a biblical tier, far-future cosmic horror epic.

I play Halo 5 quite a bit, it does actually manage to make you feel more like a SPARTAN then past games and I think it's core gameplay and movement in general is pretty top notch on that note. I never minded Halo being slow before but it's honestly jarring to go back and play the past games with their less responsive movement systems. it also has some of the best weapon balance in the series. So in general I think it's MP is pretty solid and it has an absurdly versatile forge.

Sadly, the single player is ass, even worse then 4's for the most part, and it still has 343's awful art design, per >>15427694;s point.

6 has the potential to be really good if 343 can keep the MP/core gameplay as good as it was in 5 and improve on the SP, but I'm skeptical, both because 343 in general fucks something up for every 1 thing they get right, and because the Halo fanbase has become so utterly fractured and averse to change that they bitch about even the things Halo 5/343 in general did right and 343 seems to want to bend over and unqestionably listen to everything people bitch about in an effort to win support back, so I have a feeling a lot of the good movement systems and weapon balance changes will get undone just because people whined.

Nope, Forerunners were a different species. Humans WERE around at that time, actually at a more advanced tech state than they are "now". They ended up in a galactic war with the Forerunners due to continually encroaching on Forerunner territory and destroying planets because the Flood was pushing humanity into Forerunner space and destroying planets was the only way they had to stop an infection. The Forerunners beat the ancient humans and basically threw them into the Stone Age on Earth but realized too late that the Flood were coming and that they would have lost the war had humanity not been fighting a two-front war. So as things got close to the end for the Forerunners, they reprogrammed their tech to recognize and work for humans as if they were Forerunners. Their old enemy might be able to succeed where they failed.

Out in space, the UNSC was hopelessly outgunned. For those parts of the Halo setting that were still open-ended by the time 343 came along, consider referring back to Marathon to find what the answers could have been. Halo is the spiritual successor to Marathon, and a lot of its concepts come directly from Marathon. In regard to the question of where the Forerunners(/Jjaro) came from, it gets complicated there because even in the course of the Marathon trilogy it's not explicitly stated, but it's implied, as a lot of metaphysical shenanigans take place throughout the trilogy's events, that they're a form of humanity that came to exist and will come to exist before and after us as a result of those metaphysical shenanigans.

And then Halo: First Strike makes those sorts of metaphysical shenanigans that Marathon's universe ran on canon in Halo's universe, too, with its Forerunner technology that explicitly works on mythopoetic logic rather than on any conventional laws of physics…

NGE's is litterally just a bunch of nips saying "Hur durr this looks cool" The creators of NGE have stated repeatedly that all the christian symbolism in their show was just because they thought it looked neat, and that it didn't have any actual meaning.
