7a7a2a  No.15402525

I was just playing PMD: Blue Rescue Team for the last few days and had a blast. Now I've learned that this is "my last journey" and now I don't have any motivation to actually finish it. I mean I just bought all these friend areas and know I won't get to fill them up. It's over, I get to finish things up with my team, pack it up and leave…

I've had that happen with many other games too. I don't think games should tell you when they're going to end. Anyway, what are some of your habits?

f1d392  No.15402541

OCD on exploring every nook and cranny of levels and avoiding progressing or triggering events until I've done so, in case the game prevents me from entering that area.

>>15402541

I do this to. Sometimes I get so bad about it, I'll ruin a game for myself.

a7bf1c  No.15403154

I always use up the lowest level items/monsters before using the higher level ones.

Helpful in something like SMT where they can be fusion fodder but just tedious in something like Pokemon.

a548fb  No.15403178

You already went through all of it? The postgame's fucking huge.

So the Rayquaza thing is not the end? That's even worse, just shut up about the end and let me play…

Also, my other habit in RPGs is trying to save items for "an occassion" that never actually comes (good games should make it come!).

efe119  No.15403510

>>15402541

This happens a lot to me, too many cut-scene heavy games ruined this shit, where if you stumble through an invisible trip-wire, a cutscene plays out and you can't explore the previous area.

It doesn't help that scenes are often made so that they expect you to look a certain way when you arrive or are walking about and notice something in the distance but I'm too busing looking to the sides hoping for upgrades or secrets.

>>15403222

>Also, my other habit in RPGs is trying to save items for "an occassion" that never actually comes (good games should make it come!).

It never comes because you learn to make do without those items and every fight becomes somewhat easy even without them so you forget about it.

At some point, I have to mentally condition myself into thinking that "I don't need these items, I can spend them freely and save time instead" or I end up with an inventory cluttered with healing potions and the like.

Elona was like this to me, where I had a gazillion potions, scrolls and rods with me that I never used because slashing with my sword was more than enough.

But then I realized that throwing potions trains Alchemy and Throwing and reading scrolls\zapping rods trains Magic Device so now I begin every fight by tossing beer, whisky and acid onto the faces of anyone who gets close and unload rods to save mana and get shit for Itzepatl.

If a game lets me customize my character's appearance, I don't stray too much from how the character is "officially" suppose to look. BotW Link without his blue tunic & Dovahkiin with his iron helmet just doesn't seem right to me, you know. Sometimes, the "official" appearance is merely cosmetic like in Animal Crossing New Leaf where it doesn't screw you over. Other times, like in BotW and Skyrim, the "official" gear is relatively weaker than better armor in the game. Making the game harder to play.

>>15403222

>Also, my other habit in RPGs is trying to save items for "an occassion" that never actually comes (good games should make it come!).

It will never come because these games are usually designed for you to be able to win without those items.

I usually rush through games faster than I probably should so I generally end up underleveled and actually end up making use of those items near the end/final boss, which works out well because a lot of rpgs like to put a large difficulty spike here.

37f258  No.15403561

an annoying habit I find is that when you play games you ruin your entire life and develop brain fog and depressed and want to kill yourself every single day of your waking life. Anyone else know this feel?

efe119  No.15403576

>>15403561

Nobody knows that feeling because everyone can write proper english and doesn't stay inside like a retarded NEET.

If videogames are all you have going for your life, that outcome is inevitable but if they are your hobby instead of your job, they complement life really well.

Besides, have you taken a look at the alternatives for entertainment? Thank G-D for videogames!

This and finding a way to horde all the useful items.

5f10ac  No.15403593

Always jumping down hallways in fps games even when i know it doesn't do anything.

c9258b  No.15403665

>>15403591

This, except I tend to horde rare items that aren't useful too just for collecting purposes even though I'm going to end up uninstalling the game and erasing my save files after I beat it.

0813c6  No.15403732

In addition to the aforementioned hoarding of items for an occasion that never arises, and feeling compelled to explore every area entirely (to the detriment of my enjoyment), I just can't stop save scumming like the world's biggest degenerate. I've tried multiple times to not do so, but it's like fighting against a wall.

I am ashamed.

Try playing on consoles. That will cure you since it can't be done there.

7d1912  No.15414909

>>15403732

I blame casualization.

Modern games are so shallow that if I lose even 5 minutes of progress I end up with the most brain-dead gameplay to get back to the point where I was. Just doing the _exact_ same thing, picking up the same items, killing the same enemies the same way. My death leading to the reload is not because I could've taken a better route, but because the game mechanics are piss easy and the game is made "hard" with artificial difficulty.

In older games I don't mind not saving for even hours on end, because after reload I'm met with a new direction in gamepaly. I don't have to redo the exact same shit.

All items I have in a game HAVE to be in increments of 5 and If I can't buy them to get them to that amount I will grind for hours if I have to, in games that cap items to 99 I stop at 90 or it just feels wrong. It's starting to bleed into my real life now when I go shopping I usually buy 5 of everything even if I don't need that much.

>Now I've learned that this is "my last journey" and now I don't have any motivation to actually finish it.

This is probably one of the worst habits since you're missing an important part of the game, you should really go back and blast through the game just to get it over with. Hell, some games might still have a lot of content left but you quit because you simply felt like it was ending.

I know that feel, bro.

>>15403154

I know that feel, bro. Especially in Breath of the Wild, I'll use the weakest weapons/bows/shields before I use the strongest one, but this one actually has some logic to it - the weak stuff break faster anyway, so you get to use the strong stuff on the strong enemies sooner or later. It does help that I'm skilled as fuck and can effortlessly dodge (w/ flurry) and parry stuff, so shields practically never break and even a pot lid can stop a fucking Lynel dead in its tracks without breaking.

f63dc4  No.15415360

I get reluctant to delete older saves just in case I fuck something up really badly and I'm forced to start over. I only end up deleting older saves when the game forces me to or when I'm at the end and I figure I'll play it from the beginning the next time.

ce6294  No.15415411

If a game doesn't have limited inventory space, I try to hoard at least one of every item. If it has limited but extremely generous space I don't.

Same here anon, especially when the game's dry reload animation looks cooler; I used to be real bad for always reloading no matter what in multiplayer games though.

>>15415161

>>15415447

I'm not a /k/fag but what's the problem with constantly reloading?

Yes, you "lose" the ammo in the magazine when you pop it out and put a fresh one in, but surely you can take them out of the magazine and re-use them when you're out of the fight?

419db4  No.15415517

>>15415467

Depends on the game, some don't allow you to recover magazines, even if they still had ammo in them. But even if the game only tracks total ammo reloading often can lead to getting caught off guard mid-animation, so it's seen as a bad habit.

>hit fork in the road

I fucking hate games that make you guess and pull shit like this with permanently missable stuff. Usually the reason I keep FAQs open while playing.

>So the Rayquaza thing is not the end?

Not even fucking close, man. PMD games like the put the "main story" end somewhere closer to the 1/2-2/3 point. That way, more casual players can be satisfied with a complete story, but the hardcore get even more story and dungeons. You still have Luminous Cave and evolution, Stormy Sea and Kyogre, the Clear Wing quest with the Legendary Beasts and Ho-oh, the Latios and Latias quest, the Gengar backstory quest, the 99 floor Western Cave that gives Mewtwo, the 99 floor Silver Trench that gives Lugia, and finally Meteor Cave, which only allows 1 Pokemon and 3 items and gives Deoxys. And on top of all that you have recruiting them all, infinite missions, team building, and earning all the statues.

58f253  No.15416111

>>15416085

Oh, and Buried Relic, another 99 floor dungeon with the Regi trio and Mew, Purity Forest, a 99 floor dungeon with Celebi, and Wish Cave, a 99 floor dungeon with Jirachi. You got your work cut out for you.

silent hill 3 is a piece of shit that made me hoard useless items in tons of other games. If I had any less ammunition in my sh3 playthrough it would've been impossible for me to beat the boss
