We sometimes talk about modern Android/iOS mobileshit, but we rarely talk about the games which ran in those old Java ME cellphones. Did you play any of these? Which ones? Is there any you would still like to play today? I heard KEmulator runs them pretty well.

J2me had a bunch of short novelty games.

Orcs and Elves 1 and 2, Doom RPG and Wolfenstein RPG still hold up. You could probably emulate those on your smartphones nowadays.

Orcs and Elves 1 had a DS version but 2 is J2ME only.

22a9ce  No.15394987

Doom RPG is my shit. Hard to find a properly working JAR and emulate it though.

I liked vid related as a kid.

Another one i used to play was this 3d minigolf game i can't really find the name of. It had knight armors as some sort of obstacle if i remember correctly. Pretty good.

64be31  No.15395029

I remember a platformer you played as a ball. I don't remember anything else, it was very simple and very fun, probably the best java phone game I played back then.

It had a neat gimmick where the lava would keep rising, the longer it took you to finish the level, though looking at the walkthrough the movements were more clunky than I remembered them to be, but fuck me if I didn't play the shit out of this.

>>15395025

I think I know the game you are referring to, I remember playing with my classmates during class, secretly passing the phone from one to another.

7a9c10  No.15395045

I vaguely remember a turn tactics RPG SWAT game with 13 or so missions that I played in one of those early color screen Nokias and it was the best buck I ever spent on a mobile game. The sprites were tiny but serviceable, you had many choices of weapons and grenades, there was permadeath for dead squad mates, and there was a short comic-esque scene wherever someone was shot.

It's weird being nostalgic for such games, but I guess it's also because nobody had a handheld at my school, so phone games were the best way to enjoy vidya with your nerd friend during recess and during classes.

Gameloft used to make good games back then. I fondly remember the Splinter Cell games that made for great stealth platformers. They even had a ninja jRPG clearly inspired by Naruto, but it had plenty of content and nice sprites, and I loved that turn-based battleship game. IIRC they even made a Castlevania knockoff.

Their games was a ripoffs of big famous series with nothing but QTEs in gameplay. At least 2D graphics was descent. I played all Gangstar and Zombie Infection games, Asphalt series, that game about cops, PoP and Splinter Cell ports and many others, so I'm know what I talking about.

bumping with my favorite mobile game from back in the day. It's a korean action-rpg. There were 5 or 6 games in the series, only two made into the west. Shame what happened to it.

>first game ends in a cliffhanger

>second game was already set to be launched in the west

>EA Korea buys the company and cancels said launch

>they sit on the ip for a few years

>they release the third game in the west, completely skipping the second game

>and… that's it. They killed the franchise

EA is like those villains from children cartoons that are too evil to be real

If you're dedicated enough you could probably translate it. I remember editing text in J2ME games being as simple as opening the file as an archive and dragging and dropping

Anyone has any of the JAPANESE j2me games?

The docomo / imode / roid / moja ones.

Those are by far more interesting. The file extension is jam as opposed to jar, and there's some videos of people using simulators to play them on computers.

I found zero information about them except for two clock wallpapers (and they came in both jam and jar formats).

I'm also kind of curious for crazy crossovers like vidrelated. When I saw its title in a YT search I thought it was some kind of Mugen or OpenBOR game, but it happened to be an officially released Japanese mobile game.

"Remember when G-mode bought Data East's IP way back when (February 2004)? Turns out the Japanese mobile developer has more than just Burger Time and Bump 'n' Jump cell phone ports in store for us. This newly-announced collaboration of SNK Playmore and G-mode results in the latter giving us (or at least Japanese mobile users) "Garou Densetsu vs. Fighter's History Dynamite" in Spring 2007, and SNK now has the freedom to use Fighter's History characters in their future arcade and console game titles."

Actually Blackberry figured out they don't need to shrink the screen in 2015. 10 years too late to make their company not shit and this idea mainstream.

>tfw due to Apple, phones are now just 99% screen with no buttons at all

Because it makes so much sense to have permanent black bar with navbar on your screen instead of 3 physical buttons. Modern phone design is bullshit.

Also don't hope for any gaming phone to include sliding gamepad.

Current trend seems to be attachable shoulder buttons that literally press your screen when you press them so you will be able to play mobile ports of PUBG and Fortnite.

So the future just seems more and more shit.

Bounce Tales.

I used to play this one boxing game where you could upgrade your trainer to get better stats (an old man, a nigger, a woman and a middle aged guy) and the last few fights were boxers from different planets, a really good SOTN rip-off, two resident evil games that had PS1 tier graphics, several metal slug games and a south park platformer on my motorola razr, i don't remember their names though, and i also had a old ass green screen nokia with 2 games i haven't been able to find anywhere, one was more or less a quality demake/port of In The Hunt and the other was a platformer where you had to collect keys and find the exit, and you had to run away from enemies because touching them was fatal, it wasn't very good but i remember it because it made use of the wilhelm scream whenever you died.

Slightly off-topic, but there's just something about the limitations and creativity of J2ME and handheld game design that just captures my imagination and intrigue. This also extends to calculator games and the assembly wizardry used to make them.

Anybody play this per chance? An opportunity where it's warranted that I post a .gif
