AMD’s 7nm Vega is a Monster – 1.25x Turing’s Compute at Half The Size

>Whilst the company hasn’t disclosed detailed specifications relating to the new GPU we could reasonably expect around one terabyte/s of memory bandwidth, higher clock speeds and significantly better power efficiency thanks to TSMC’s leading-edge 7nm process technology. Which has reportedly enabled the company to extract an unbelievable 20.9 TFLOPS of graphics compute out of 2nm Vega, according to one source. Which if true would make it the world’s first 20 TFLOPS GPU.

>Earlier this week the company confirmed in a press release, and later President and CEO Dr. Su confirmed in an interview with Marketwatch, that AMD is on track to launch the world’s first 7nm graphics cards this year. While the world’s first 7nm CPUs, built on the company’s next generation Zen 2 x86 64-bit core, are on track to be on-shelves next year.

It's good to hear a little bit of good news, now I'm not as bummed about Nvidia, since they are not the ones laying pipe this year.

>Based on an improved iteration of the Vega architecture which debuted last year, 7nm Vega is nothing short of a beast. The new GPU supports intrinsic AI instructions and features four HBM2 8GB stacks running across a 4096-bit memory interface for a total of 32GB vRAM.

As for the prices, as long as they're forced to use HBM2 those will stay relatively high as well. And they really have to get their shit together when it comes to drivers. RTX is just the implementation for DirectX R, which is as open to Nvidia as it is open to AMD. Nvidia even personally suggested extensions to Khronos (Vulkan) which are being implemented by the end of the year. All AMD would have to do is put some raytrace ASICs on their dies and support existing APIs. And seeing as raytracing in games is hardly fleshed right now, waiting a year or two won't hurt them in that regard i think.

All diets are memes

To fix your shit do three things

1. Look up what farmers feed their livestock to fatten them up. (Spoilers, it's corn and soybean feed.) Delete this from your diet, otherwise you will get fattened up like livestock.

2. Look up what foods your ancestors ate. This isn't a /pol/ meme, it's the fact that up until 300 odd years ago your ancestor only had access to a limited food pallet. And your stomach didn't evolve in that period if time. E.g. Indian people still have higher resistances to spices, and Europeans still have higher resistances to dairy products.

For example, the reason why Ameriga is so fucking fat is because all of it's people are being fed corn byproducts. Nobody outside of the Sacajawea natives are going to have any tolerances to corn, so whether you are 100% Aryan or 100% African your still going to get fat eating shit with corn byproducts.

3. Exercise you degenerate.

It's easier to not release duds when you're not fucking releasing drivers for months on end and basically not fixing shit anyway in the newer releases and that's when they're not breaking shit that worked before.

Also you should try and go into detail on those GPU killing drivers to see why you shouldn't take that scottish YTfag word for it..

Besides that has nothing to do with the AMD drivers gimping their GPUs.

>You'd have a point if you were talking about the control panel

How about a 60-80% performance penalty when using recent OGL versions, or a random 30-50% performance penalty on some DX11 programs with older gen cards, or the 4XX series being a complete clusterfuck on the driver side until the 5XX release, or several gen of the top of the line card having virtually no support until they stopped fucking it up with VEGA56/64 or even the simple fucking fact that even after all these years you still need DDU to upgrade drivers without issues when Nvidia somehow has managed not only to not have that fuck up anywhere near as often but also have a pseudo DDU installation mode for their drivers since fucking forever.

Nah better focus on something meaningless that is also shit on either side.

There's DSBR, which is supposed to be AMD's equivalent of tile based rendering, except it doesn't seem to do shit. It doesn't even give a performance gain in most games when turned on.

There's the whole Primitive shaders. Which was supposed to be a shader that can replace the Vertex shader and Geometry shader in the shader pipeline, but that doesn't seem to exist at all.

There's the NGG-fastpath, which basically makes shaders a bit more smart; only doing the bare minimum data loading & processing needed to determine whether the triangle in question is even visible, and only after that doing the other load&compute in the shader. This of course does not exist either.

Apparently, there was also gonna be the fun feature where AMD drivers would recompile Vertex & Geometry shaders into Primitive shaders when appropriate so devs don't even have to bother. But since Primitive shaders themselves don't even exist, neither does this shit.

I might get some details down as I'm not an expected, but granted, nobody else is, since AMD is refusing to answer any questions on the subject.

Are you ready for cinematic 30 fps when gay tracing on the highest settings, 97 °C average temp when under load, misleading adverts regarding VRAM size and Intel-tier proprietary hardware vulns?

What sort of TDP can one realistically expect from the RTX series anyhow?

RTX is mostly meme tech.

Raytracing is pretty lighting and reflections, and the rest is made up marketing shit so the list of games that support "RTX-Technology" is longer.

Its the Hairworks of lighting.

RTX is a whole lot of nothing.

Did you ever stop thinking "i wish i could see the reflection of an explosion going on out of screen"? You didn't. And people that are unaware of rtx won't stop thinking "wow i see the reflection of the explosion".

Nvidia is overhyping something nobody would actually notice.

If AMD is actually competitive, rather than being a harmless strawman nVidia just keeps around to prevent the DoJ from launching an antitrust suit, that means prices will go down and performance will go up.

Still, what we'd need to make things genuinely competitive is extra entrants, like if some of the cowards hiding in the mobile market (Mali, Adreno, PowerVR, etc.) started making discrete desktop GPUs again.

1c793e  No.15408008

thats a workstation card op

but

whatever NVIDIA creates theres support but also horrible performance, Gameworks is slow even on their own lower end hardware

whatever AMD creates they usually make the right bets but it takes like decade for industry to catch up, HBM2 and 7nm cards as mainstream is crazy but probably possible in few years for everyone else

this time its NVIDIA pushing Ray Tracing so its possible industry will adopt it faster because of them pushing it, so AMD must be working on their own cards that support this, unlike the other way around they cant wait because once NVIDIA introduces something they push it hard on everyone else

but AMD has opportunity now to introduce 7nm GPU that will destroy like 1080ti/2070 but will cost like half the price

same situation they had with Zen architecture and Ryzen CPUs, hopefully it comes before they lose the opportunity window
