I played some PC based emulator of Tamagotchi the first time I had a cannabis edible. It surprised me how few there were available, it seems like a straightforward thing to copy to a stronger computer system, although I'm unfamiliar with the electronic internals.

Get Digimon World for the PSX, with an emulator preferably.
If you have a PS4, get Digimon Next World Order or wait for the next one in the series. There's also some Digimon games for the Vita if you have that that are pretty good.
Those specific digimon games are basically a tamagotchi that kicks ass to pay the bills and they do a far better job at making you connect with your mon that any Pokemon gave ever did.

What about things like the Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure, or the Digimon World games? Also, there are a ton of Tamagotchi games. And all but the most basic and earliest virtual pets have little quests that you can send your pet on, which are definitely games.
