Some anon posted this game in the surreal thread and it’s making me wonder, what are some other underrated and obscure indie or doujin games worth playing?
Also, here’s the link to the aforementioned game:

Yeah OP there's a ton of great Japanese independent games. I've played all of Black Bastard's releases, they're pretty good. I make bi-yearly threads for Comic Market and try to show off a bunch of new games that are out or coming out. Some of my favorites have been Ace of Seafood, Sakuna, Black Maria Overdrive, New Super Hook Girl, Isu simulator, and MarchenForest. There's a few more coming out soon that I'm looking forward to like Annika & Giraffe. There's a level of quality to the mechanics and designs in these Japanese indie games, while they may lack polish the actual ideas and frequently the execution is absolutely tremendous.

Here are some fun, high quality ones:
>Youyou Kengeki Musou
A 3d action (platforming? adventure? I only played the demo) game. The circle made an Action RPG too if you enjoy it.
>Touhou Gensou Skydrift
3d Touhou Mario Kart after Cirno Racing was never ever, but without the karts. 2hus ride on 2hus instead. I don't know if it's cracked for online play or not, but it's supposedly fun. Don't support DRM pls.
>Master Burner Climax
After Burner Climax / 3D shootan fun. Good soundtrack and visuals also.
>Touhou Puppet Dance Performance
If you know Touhoumon, this is a completed PC game that stands on its own. It doesn't try to be a Pokemon romhack but its own thing while still finishing what the Touhoumon project started. It's good and has online play if you like that sort of thing.

You aren't wrong that it isn't well known, but only because doujin games in general aren't well known. Most people who play video games are casuals and normalfags, after all. RBO is among the most popular and well known doujin games out there though. Excluding Touhou, it is about as entry-level as it gets.

Yume Nikki got some html5 port. It's jank as fuck and I wouldn't recommend playing it here aside from taking a look at it running in your web browser, but it's kind of interesting to see I suppose. Personally YN to me was always about getting immersed in and almost choked by the atmosphere, and having those janky "LOADING" messages pop up whenever I do something almost completely takes me out of the experience. Again, still neat to see I suppose.

c4c89e No.15418880

Ah, that one. I actually got together with people form Uboachan for that one. We had about 40 people in one voice chat and it was pure shitposting and chaos. Ironically when the game actually came out most people had disconnected and only like 5 people were left. It was fun to experience it for the first time and all but honestly it's just not Yume Nikki. Yume Nikki didn't really have any solid "threats" but in Dream Diary you have several chase scenes and enemies, and things just kind of feel like they're some janky Unity indie game. The excitement over there actually being a new official Yume Nikki game when it was announced was fucking top-notch for me though, and I'll never forget that part of the experience.
Overall I wouldn't recommend playing it unless you're incredibly curious as to what it's like. It got an update not too long ago with some new areas or something? I dunno. The game also has some jank adventure game elements where you find one item in one place before reaching a dead end and then you have to go to another area to solve a puzzle with it and so on and so forth. It's a'ight, I guess.

I definitely found some enjoyment out of it, but more-so as a fan game rather than a stand-alone game. The music and some worlds will be a thrill to see if you're a long-time fan, while other areas will infuriate you with how much more they could have done but didn't . The recent patch that added 4 more new areas was much needed, and really aided the game, but I don't think it was enough. If they would add even more areas, and thus create a non-linear world to explore, I would be much more happy.
However, some areas of the game really make the game worth it. Combined with the great soundtrack, it really is a dreamy experience. Sage for off-topic

Ah, yeah, it wasn't bad by any means. A little disappointing but as a fun little fangame it was neat. I now remember how Uboa was just a single image that popped up on your screen as a jumpscare, and I think that was a great example of how anti-Yume Nikki the whole thing was. It felt like it was all "HEY GUYS REMEMBER THAT SPOOKY UBOA MOMENT?" rather than treating Uboa as just another strange character in a strange, interesting world. I digress though.
>>15424727
Yume Nikki 3D was really cool and unique. I still prefer the original, though. If you want some real meat, go get Yume 2kki all set up. .flow is a great choice, too. 2kki has hundreds of worlds in it though and it's a fucking near endless adventure, so it's certainly worth checking out.
