They could of done better. It looks good until you get to the head. The entire head and puffy balloon is a weak spot which just makes the fight even more trivial. It has no good attacks and the ground stomp is probably the only ability that gets kills.

This faggot whirls around like a helicopter and never uses its attacks, the wind thing is just an annoyance, it should of been some sort of razor wind that actually does damage.

The body should of inflated some and toned the neck down so its not a free kill and didn't look as fucking retarded.

The tail is also pointless, it rarely uses it and it doesn't do enough damage to care when it does. It should of been a feathery design like the wings and used to clobber people with drive bys when the wind pulse is down.

The armor set and weapons themselves look silly with the needless puff balls, and its default abilities leave much to be desired.

The problem with Yian Garuga is that they refused to update his animations. I don't care if he's a fast motherfucker they need to at least add some movement to his body when he does an attack instead of just sliding him into you at mach 4.

World is the first time I've played through one of the games so far, and I've got to say in general the monster fights are slightly disappointing.They aren't awful, but once you hit the flying wyverns you have basically identical fights for a while until you start reaching elder dragons. It's also annoying that the Barroth fight is maybe the most fun fight out of all monsters by a huge margin, but it's one of the earliest fights in the fucking game. It kind of sets you up for disappointment.

Health bars inform playstyle, and let you know what's working and what isn't. I usually want health bars no matter what, but in MonHun the lack of health bars is to really sell the idea you're fighting real monsters. It's not a boss fight with arbitrary health, it's a bondafide hunt. It's one of those things people will always complain about wanting, and be unable to realize if having them hurts the gameplay experience or not, like group finders in MMOs.

In my opinion, every single OC donut steel monster introduced in World, except Odogaron and maybe Tobi Kadachi is shit, but the returning monsters are really slow and shitty for some reason. The amount of just throwaway shitlizard monsters is insane. You have the Great Jagras and Anjanath, which are pushover shitty lizards. You have Tzitzi and Kulu, which are basically the same monster, except on top of their literally three moves, Kulu gets a rock mode, and Tzitzi can flash you. Jyuratodas is just a shitty Lavasioth that couldn't kill you if it tried. Pukei Pukei is a Rathian downgrade. I can't even say anything about the Great Girros because I only remember it paralyzing shit. Paolomu is just a worthless pushover that has a single attack that actually does something. Legiana looks cool and has great animations, but it's so easy there's just no point. Radobaan is an Uragaan that can spin horizontally, that's it. They introduce the fucking Dodogama in the final map of the game, halfway through high rank. The thing is a cute goober that has one threatening attack and dies if you look at it.

The bazelgeuse is a cool looking monster that's just not fun to fight. Even the Nerdgigante is a pushover until you get to the last stage when he goes bullshit hard and starts spamming attacks without giving you any kind of opening at all.

For fuck's sakes, Zorah Magdaros is the worst siege fight I've ever played in an MH game. You climb onto him, break 3 pimples in two minutes, then ride along for ten to fifteen fucking minutes without any way to speed that shit up while maybe mining some ore, then you hit him with a dragonator and it ends.

Even the final Xeno'Jobber fight is shit because his moveset is ass and he misses you on his own half of the time because he's too fucking big, and his HP pool is so overinflated you can wail on him for ten minutes straight before he dies.

The great Jagras could have been really fun as a later monster. The idea that it eats something else and changes would have been fun, except that since you fight it so early in the game that it died near instantly, and it didn't do anything with the whole eating thing. They could have made it so while it's skinny, it's stomach is near-invulnerable, but when it eats something the armor plating expands and can't protect it, so now it's the monsters weak point. They should have made Dodogama the first monster your hunt, because it's sufficiently weird and intersting to really grab you, even though it's pretty easy, and it also has a weakness that's super obvious to show the player, "Look, look at this shit! Pay attention to your prey!"

I fucking hate the Anjanath, and all the fanged wyverns though. The difficult of all of those fights comes from the fact that their movements cover a ton of space, and are super jerky and weird. The Odogaron was super annoying to me on that front.

Also, I nearly lost my shit with this game because of how fucking bored I was with the same Rathian-esque enemies over and over again, and I was realizing how many movesets are compy pasted. And then the next big story mission has my investigate a new, strange monster, and it's a god damn pink recolor of the thing that's ruining the game for me.

Its very easy, you have new moves and cancel out of healing and generally are more mobile, monsters aren't more aggressive or more mobile to compensate.

Trying to play with friends is difficult, you have to play story quests solo partly to see a cutscene you can't skip, and then the fucked networking doesn't let friends join unless you rehost. No idea if that was fixed yet.

There are performance issues with the port and crashes. It works perfectly fine on my PC, but I know people who weren't so lucky.

Its a good game if you're new to MH and can tolerate the mandatory cutscene bullshit

Aerial IG is the most mobile weapon in the game, it can easily keep itself in Rajang's face while he's going wild and hopping around the map. Don't mountspam, mountspam is for baguettes. Are you playing any other weapon? Probably Guild. Alternatively, Alchemy is fun on most weapon types, but it's almost always the worst of all 6 styles. Experiment. All of the styles are fun in their own way. Even Brave can be fun, just for fucking around and making the weapons play differently, even though it makes the whole game a cakewalk.

Don't give money to 8-4, ever. As I see it, the p3rd HD graphics are basically at a level where it's good enough not to functionally impair the gameplay in any way. Anything above this level, while nice, is superfluous, and potentially harmful to the game if it brings visual clutter. I don't have any real frame of reference when it comes to MH games, but I think p3rd is an excellent game even by modern standards, and the only serious critique I have, ignoring the small quirks and flaws, is that high-rank missions are only available through the guild hall but I will persevere as a solo player. Hell, it would even appear that the online functionality of p3rd through coldbird.net is better than what MHW has to offer on the PC at the moment.

The tutorials seem to manage to negelct all the important information that's game-specific, but make sure to explain only the shit that you could have figured out anyways. Well anja on low rank can one shot you with his straigh fire blast if you have 120 hp (full with low rank food bonus) and shit fire resist, diablos charge on high rank can one shot you as well if you're rocking early h rank armor set with about 230 def.

All tested while i played with one additional person. If shit's as unbalanced as people make it to be while playing solo i wouldn't know about it, therefore i won't deny it. For 2 players game doesn't feel as easy as /v/ seems to claim.

Something like a Duramboros would be clipping through fucking everything and flying up and down ledges like a helicopter if it tried spinning. I have never played a single second of any MH game, I went into world completely blind and I failed two missions in total while solo. I carted maybe a dozen times in total between great jaggy and xenovagina. I've killed every monster available on PC. I don't have old games to reference for challenge but I was always told that MH was a challenging franchise but the difficulty in world was basically a joke, even dark souls 3 was more challenging. The free boss:challenging boss ratio in this game is even worse than dark souls 3. Flash bombs make all of the rathalos clones trivial, all of the fanged wyverns are jokes though Tobi and Odie are dangerous until you understand them. Aside from Nerg and technically Kirin all of the elder dragons are gimmick fights that are more annoying than actually challenging.

Based on what I know about the older games it seems that the quality of life changes in world are good. I've seen some pretty fucking autistic complaints like people complaining that you can refund materials on upgrades you didn't like and don't have a fail chance for crafting consumables, or need to buy and carry a stack of whetstones but being able to slow sprint at normal run speed while drinking potions is broken and so are some of the mantles, setting traps is also a fucking joke because I can literally run in front of a fleeing monster and drop a trap on it, traps feel really thoughtless, it's almost like throwing a pokeball, capturing is too easy for how rewarding it is. Most of the weapons are fun to use but it's kind of disappointing that almost all of them, in high level play, end up focusing one combo chain or one specific attack.

I'd buy GU and give it a try if it wasn't a $60 straight port of a $40 game. I refuse to pay that on principle. If I can get it for $40 or less I might try it.

There are a handful of them, like not having items broken up into stacks of 99 in the inventory, yes.

This isn't as autistic as it sounds, as it was part of the strategy in the past - there were items you could carry that would lower the chance of combination failure to the point where if you carried all five at once you could guarantee the combination would succeed, with the tradeoff being that 5 of your 24 item slots would be taken up for that, plus the materials for the combination itself obviously would take up space as well. This was to balance how useful certain items you could combine for could be, like Traps, Farcasters, Lifepowder, etc. to force you to dedicate more of your inventory if you wanted to make sure you'd have access to more than usual of those items. Removing failure chance removes that element of strategy.

Just pirate the 3DS version if you really want to play XX specifically. Otherwise, since you're playing on PC, grab PPSSPP and emulate Freedom Unite and Portable 3rd.
