Get good, faggot. The fun of Sonic is that you have the ability to go fast if you're good. The levels are designed in such a way that they flow extra well if you have quick enough reaction times to build up that momentum. You have to earn it. Modern Sonic forgets this and just shoots you forward, defeating the whole point.
There are other games I'd argue do the "level design and physics reward you for not slowing down" aspect well but don't advertise it, like Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels, Ninja Gaiden, and Crash Bandicoot 1 and 3, but Sonic's unique physics add an extra element to it, for an even greater sense of momentum and flow.

The only ones I'd say are even close to Mario or Sonic are Donkey Kong Country, Crash, Ape Escape, and Sly Cooper. Jak & Daxter was great but the sequels aren't really platformers anymore. Ratchet has some platforming but again becomes much less of a platformer as the series goes on. Banjo does barely any platforming and is just a collectathon that gets lumped in because it's colorful anthropomorphic animals. Spyro I'd argue is closer to Banjo than to Mario 64, but still has a bit more platforming. Rayman was always a shit series in 2D and 3D that only got by on European government grants and tax credits. And of course you have shit like Bubsy and Aero the Acro-Bat. There are others I like, like Cool Spot, Croc, or Gex, but while I'd say they're better than Bubsy, they're not even close to something like Mario or Sonic.
