I'm pretty excited since I love Yakuza 2 but I have a feeling 2 will still be superior at the end of the day and this will just be a new way to experience it. Shame about some of the musical changes, and some other ones are really good. The song that plays during the Shindo fight was changed in what I'd consider a big downgrade and Crazy Ken Band music doesn't seem to be in it either

Yeah, the way the Dragon engine works doesn't really lend itself to a lot of the fights in 2. In particular it transforms the Ryuji fight. While he still has those counter moves he'd do after getting hit, it doesn't force you to fight carefully because he can't just no-sell your follow up attacks like he could in the original, you can just keep stunlocking him. Additionally, MILF hunter only has the high stance in Kiwami 2, in the original he had 3 stances, each of them having a unique moveset. When it comes to the musical changes, the biggest problem is that there were about 5 different tracks which played in substory fights. Problem is, none of them were composed by Shoji, so instead almost every substory fight just plays the 2 random goon tracks.
Gameplay-wise, I've also either discovered or seen combat "tricks" which are busted as all hell. The attack out of the forward evade can still be chained into itself to an absurd degree, but more importantly, if you do the standard light heavy attack gut punch and don't finish it with the superpunch, 9/10 the enemy is stunned for long enough for you to charge and execute a charged running attack. Why is that important? The mawashi kaiten geri heat move that you can do in autistic dragon rage mode after doing the charged running attack is damage-wise the strongest in the game. Additionally, this works on almost every bad guy in the game, including all the Amon bros before they pop their superarmor.
8e3840 No.15363750
>>15363689
Luckily no one is forcing you to use the busted moves, I find it more fun to knock guys down and target the next guy. My biggest issue with combat in 6 was how often you'd have to spam the grab spin throw to crowd control and there wasn't anything like essence of fear to break up the ranks better
73c0a6 No.15363902
>>15363750
The busted techniques are pretty useful for very tough fights, such as some of the high-level coliseum fighters, gook knifeboots man or the Amon bros. I think it's a good idea to list them still, maybe someone who'll have difficulties with the really tough fights will find them useful. And yeah, 6's combat felt really unfinished. No weapons, slow as molasses even with all the upgrades, a lack of heat moves (most of which being locked behind autistic dragon rage) and just a lack of certain options. Although when it came to crowd control which was more of a pain to deal with than actual bosses in 6, I just kept doing the running dropkick, that thing is stupid good and it even benefits a lot from the increased collateral damage skill since you'll be aiming to line up as many goons as possible. I only used the spin grab when there was no space for the dropkick.

I think I'll either wait for a price drop for Kiwami 2 or not get it at all. I liked Yakuza 6 more than most seemed to because it was fresh and there was a lot of stuff that wasn't possible in previous entries to experiment with, like being able to throw enemies off ledges without spending heat, the unique moves you can do while on stairs/slopes and seamlessly going in & out of buildings while in combat.
Having just played Kiwami 2's demo though it just feels quite been there, done that and the new stuff they've added doesn't feel worthwhile. Being able to charge square attacks is nice, but I find the new charged triangle moves more annoying than useful, especially because of the slowmo you get every single time you use them. You can't charge up finishing blows or the turnaround axe kick anymore because of them either. Some of the new heat actions don't feel good to use because of the massive amount of motion blur (e.g. the one with the Double Fire sticks) and others it reintroduces are redundant because the ragdoll physics coupled with Kiryu's Dragon Engine moveset let you do the same things organically. Some of them just plain don't feel suited to the engine either, it's crazy how much better the triple sword slash heat action looks in Ishin than in Kiwami 2.
Apart from all that, the PS2 animations in cutscenes look even more wonky than in the first Kiwami since the disparity between the animation quality and that of the character models is even bigger now. And it doesn't feel anywhere near as fast as I expected considering how much quicker than 6 everyone was saying it was either, with that expectation in my head it ended up feeling really sluggish. I also keep having this issue where Kiryu will randomly stop moving when sprinting, I don't know what that's about.
To me it just feels like another 0 vs Kiwami situation where the latter isn't bad, but I can't find much justification to play it when I could instead just play a game with similar movement/combat/etc whose battles are also actually designed with those things in mind.
d21793 No.15367455
The Dragon Engine has a lot of potential, fights feel more kinetic than ever, the physics, and the indoor-outdoor seamless transitions and objects flying around.
The combat in general being paired back seems like it's part of the growing pains though, I'd like to see them implement styles while maintaining the current weighty-ness the combat has, but I'm not sure how they'd do that. Looking forward to what they do with it, and Kiwami 2 is certainly on my buy list

Kiwami is an overall solid "replacement" for playing one, it didn't lose a whole ton but there were some hiccups, like Shimano boss fights just recycling shakedowns moves and a goofy little sidequest from a homeless wrestler to get your finishing hold moves. Kiwami 2 on the other hand I feel that maybe you should play 2 vanilla first. A lot of people would still say it's one of the series best and not to disparage kiwami 2 which I'm sure will still be loads of fun, seems to have lost a few things in the changeover. Although not a game changing element, some music was changed or lost for better in some cases, or for worse in others. One really great cutscene lost it's licensed music in kiwami for whatever reason.
Does anyone know if kiwami 2 kept the ball-bustingly difficult requirements for certain weapon heat actions like beating the driving-range and batting cage hardest challenges?

Since both are from Sega and both have similar gameplay, I thought why not.
So I just finished Shenmue and the weird thing is that the town and the buildings all have a distinct feel and going around the corner you know where stuff is. So for me the weird thing is obviously waiting for a shop to open before stuff can happen in the story, also no map outside of the places that have a map that says where you are.
For some reason these where fresh mechanics to play with, and I wonder why there are no games that mimics this feel.
And the game does not look to bad for being almost 20 years old.
But I still don't get why there is this huge autism when it comes to Shenmue, maybe I should finish 2 before I comment on the autism thing, overall I'm more confused then hyped with starting nr 2.

There's again 2 skill books, the easier one you just have to play the closest-to-par easy challenge and score some points, it's not too hard, I got 500 points and I got the book. The second book is a bit tougher, you get it by hitting all squares in the bingo challenge, which means that you only have one fuckup available. Anywho, it's installing as I type this and hopefully my break from the series means I can delve into this without getting a burn out but then again, I've fired up the PS2 lately and will be juggling it with Okami.

Looks like they're working on something new. Copy-paste from Gematsu:
Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi teased the announcement of a new title within the next month on the latest Sega-Nama broadcast.
Asked by co-host Ayana Tsubaki if there will be a pause in news after the recent Yakuza Online announcement, Nagoshi said, “The [next Sega-Nama] broadcast after Tokyo Game Show will be a big one… We’ll discuss topics no one is going to expect.”
Tsubaki noted that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is generally either at the pre-Tokyo Game Show PlayStation press conference or has its own presentation each year, and that she expects something will be announced in the next month, to which Nagoshi said, “I understand that. The only hint I can say is that it is something truly different.”
Tsubaki asked if everyone will know about it within the next month, and Nagoshi responded, “That’s right. It’s a new title announcement that will turn things upside down.”
Nagoshi also mentioned that it has been about three years since the planning phase of this project, and re-confirmed that we will learn about it between now and the next Sega-Nama broadcast at the end of September.
Tokyo Game Show 2018 runs from September 20 to 23, so whatever Nagoshi is teasing might debut there, but it might also debut even earlier at Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show 2018 video live show on September 10.

I prefer the heat move requirements for baseball in the original rather than in this one, they really cranked that diarrhea dial, the 3k points you have to grind to get both the skill books is such a chore. In the end it's gonna be at least 3200 points if you want the expert's bat which increases your point multiplier. I keep doing the Expert 1 challenge course because it's the easiest way to get 150 points with the expert bat and you get a free AppStim RX for those stat grinding sessions, though I kinda doubt it'll be needed in this game, I'm just in chapter 6 and while I did spend a lot of time doing a lot of side content, I still feel overleveled as fuck. The problem with 6 is that there was a dearth of getting green and purple XP, but in Kiwami 2 it feels much more even as to which stat you'll get (though I still think I get way too much red XP).

Yakuza 0? I don't think there's a quick way around it, if you rush into the rival club fight or whatever it's called you'll get creamed. Normally I complete a platinum hostess training between rival fights, it's not quick but seemed like the best way to manage time since I finish the hostess' sub story and beat the rival, it's about 5-6 sessions which will leave your crew properly leveled.

There's some you can hire by finding them around the city and you usually have to offer them something (no biggie, you're filthy rich in this game), the shrine ones you get from trading CP and the ones you get from clearing substories and those are the best ones outside the platinum rank.
Some bronze hostesses are good too, there's one with a very high Party stat who, if properly leveled, can milk a lot of shekels out of mega-rich costumers. Unsolicited advice but remember that stats are better than attributes, ideally you'll pair a girl that matches both of a costumer's preference but if you can't, Party/Talk/Love/etc is much more important than Cute/Sexy/Beautiful/etc.

At least the gachashit mechanic is tied to in-game currency only so be glad. The Clan Creator also has the same gachashit tied to it, but unlike the hostess minigame in K2, all the best fighters you'll get through substories, fighting street bosses or the arena. The best guys you can get from the arena imo are Akira Yamaoka and Komaki. Komaki needs no introduction, but Akira is a classic arena combatant who probably was in every game, he fights by aping Kiryu's style in every game he appears in and is a very tough customer. Since you can now see the style of every combatant before you enter the arena, you are able to see if you'll get Akira if you have "Self-taught Kenpo" as one of the fighting styles you'll face. The Amon bros are also very tough I imagine, but you only get them after beating them (shocker, I know), I didn't get that far to see just how tough they are for the Clan Creator. When it comes to street bosses, the SR you get from Kamurocho is a good fighter, while the SR you get from Sotenbori is absolutely essential as he is the only one with the True Essence of Repair skill for who you don't have to pay scummy DLC for.

i think that detective bitch is modeled after and voiced by the actress from the live action adaptation of Gokusen? which i'm a fanboy of so that's cool to see.
i don't know. kiwami was magic. kiwami 2 feels like its retarded brother trying to copy its brother's success and just being embarrassing and contrived. i think it'd be better priced at $25. piece of shit.
the ragdoll effects were cool for 30 seconds and now the combat feels shittier too.
the animations are PS2 tier sometimes and it's jarring.

It's a shame that's Kiryu only. One of the best changes in Kiwami is implementing that feature. Kiwami really does wonders refining Kiryu's styles, makes me wonder what they could have done for Majima.
Anyway, spent some more hours on this. When I saw that barrier on the way to the bar, I just knew something was gonna happen and it did, got introduced to the cabaret management mini-game. Yuki's still a klutz and I'm surprised she didn't say something like "ya know, I went through this same shit in the 80s" but maybe she will later. The mini-game seems to have some new things but the first session seemed the same as Zero but a thing I noticed is that HP goes down much faster, I had all three hostesses damn near dead by the end and the session was awful, just one guy went home very satisfied.
Overall the game feels harder than 6, enemies seem to hit harder and Goda damn near sent me to the morgue. Other than that, I still don't get the point of Toylets; I think you're supposed to always keep R2 held and use L2 to make the stream match but even then I keep getting BTFO while the one with the wind blowing seems like you don't have to do anything besides holding R2. And fuck VF2, clunky ass shit, everyone has like 10 moves and the AI damn near murders you in one auto combo string.

I did a run with new hires while the line-up rested then went for a rematch. Ended 2,100,000 nihon shekels ahead. Talk about overkill. The game changer was a passive skill Koyuki gets where she starts seated and accompanied, basically that thing I was complaining about the AI doing, it did the same in Zero but now it looks like the player can do it too. Incidentally, because of her substory events, I got Koyuki over Lv30, making her +20 levels ahead of almost everyone else.
I forgot to ask - about the hired hostesses, I take it they're all the same but the element of randomness is the order by which we can get them, right? I got a bronze one called Marilyn II who was ahead of Koyuki for a while, good stats and attributes. The bronze hostesses here seem much better than in Zero.

In K2 the opposing clubs always have a set maximum of cash they can rake in during the championship battle. I've read that in a jap guide and from my experience it's correct, as the rival club always got around the same amount of cash as the guide said they'd have with a deviation of around 300k.

That's a big part of why I haven't gotten it. Kiwami 1 was about half the price of 0 in my country, so I went in expecting a budget experience and had a good time despite my issues with it. Kiwami 2 on the other hand is the same price as 6 here and seems more like a Frankenstein's monster of content that you can (for the most part) get elsewhere in the series than a brand new experience. 2's story/characters, 6's combat/clan creator/seamless exploration, 0's cabaret minigame, etc.
I'm sure Kiwami 2's not an outright bad game but the FOTNS game seems way more enticing and its release date isn't too far away. I'll maybe get Kiwami 2 if it's cheaper around Christmas or something.

When I read "gacha" being brought up here in this thread, I thought the girls would have random ranks and stats like, per instances, I got a Bronze Marilyn II but there might be a Gold or Silver one. Also thought it implied DLC to buy SSRR+ hostesses for $2-3 bucks a piece like with Y6's Clan Creator.

At the time I felt it was Yakuza with a dash of CUHRAYZEEE, the Circle button being the big game changer because it primes enemies for a finisher if the enemy has a skull icon over their heads, and can be comboed even on airborne enemies and its animation changes depending on the string used, sometimes giving additional effects like temporarily blinding a enemy). Juggle combos are also a big thing there.

Juggling bitches seems like a lot of fun already and proper timing is rewarded, not only for the finishing moves, but for the pressure point attack as well, though from what I've seen if you get the timing for the pressure point attack correctly you just kill the bad guy outright, even if they're a big guy for you I imagine it's different when fighting bosses. I can't wait to see what kind of shit I'll be able to do once the full game comes out.

I've heard that the Clan Creator is supposedly better in K2, but honestly it's just the same boring shit as 6, only reversed. By that I mean that you're just defending instead of just attacking. Also, I was able to beat all missions first try without doing any real micromanagement, just putting all guys in a formation and using one guy as a "striker" who I'd move around the area where there's trouble, and even then I barely had to do even that. In 0 I could cheese a lot of the bosses and just stunlock half the game with Majima's nunchuck bat swing but this feels a lot harder and I had to learn how to use rush mode and quickstep instead of ignoring them and tanking hits.

I would say don't skip any, but since you started at 0 maybe aim for storyline order if you have a ps3 lying around to play 3-5 on. 6 isn't terrible but like 3 it's a bit on the weak and rough-around-the-edges side because of going into the new engine. Kiwami 2 makes advancements on the new engine from 6 but at the same time I would recommend playing original yakuza 2 first, aside from a bit of PS2 era jank it aged pretty well and some of the boss fights in kiwami 2 don't translate super well into the new engine. Certain story elements don't come out quite as well due to some changes in cutscenes and music changes

another thing to mention about 6 is that its story relies especially heavy on the player having played yakuza 5, 3/4 you can go into with less knowledge but there's a large angle of the response they expect from the player in 6 that you'd probably only get from playing 5, or maybe even more accurately being invested in the entire series

The mock interview one was interesting, I played it straight but definitely got the itch to do everything wrong next time.
I was extremely reluctant to do the mahjong one, I think it was the first time I walked out of a substory instead of diving in head first; after a lot of wandering and a save just before, I decided to do it and the game asks if I want to use a "Peerless Tile" and I said yes because fuck it, might as well, the game starts and I automatically win the match. Is this set in Kamurocho? I could swear that's the karaoke place in the street between Tenkaichi and Pink whose name eludes me atm in the 2:54 mark.
According to Gematsu, a demo should be out today so we get an idea of what this game is about soon.
e5cc5b No.15431431
Anyway, permit me to dump some stray screencaps along with some stray thoughts.
Right off the bat, just me or everything's way more blacked than in the original? There's niggers everywhere now. Ran into one in the batting cages, coon challenged me to get 5 homers then mopped the floor with me with a bunch of anime bullshit pitches. Dunno how I'll be beating this one.
I've noticed a big translation error - the first guy you face in the coliseum is a hue but his last name is something Italian-sounding like "di Sciurva" or some shit like that when it should be "da Silva".
Still haven't beat Toylets a single time, while I'm having a clue of what to do, when the AI starts the final charge, I can never beat it. Not sure what's the best way to play - I just keep R2 held and tap L2 to control it.
Kiryu could have easily patched things up with Shindo, all he had to do was hook him up with the Headmistress.
This time, I did get killed - by Majima. The AI hits a lot harder than in 6 and is pretty tanky to boot. That charge attack is well needed. And on that note, dunno if people are aware but you can charge both light and heavy at the same time and then combo them, it's how I usually start street fights.
Saw a really cool Heat action with Kaoru where she puts grabs a guy by the waist and kicks him the face with a scorpion kick kind of thing. Anyone know the exact way to trigger this? The standard double kick one seems to always be available.
Finally started Clan Creator, feels noticeably different from 6's and not just for the focus on defense. I was wondering if there's codes for this but doesn't look like it - Majima's a SR card and the fun pack gave another SR card.
e5cc5b No.15431447
Incidentally, was there anything cut between development and release? I could swear there was a Heat action where you'd make a enemy kiss the crossdresser from Champion's District.
And almost forgot, did they take out hostesses? Was hoping to see the Y2 titty monster remade.

Here's what I can help you with.
The nigger was also in the original, same substory. If you're having trouble with his pitches, do some rounds of the batting cages until you can get the blue bat from Yoshida (I think it costs 200 points), that one has a larger sweet spot which makes homeruns easier to do. The substory was even harder in the original by the way. Also, he has an identical pitching pattern each time, only difference is that the locations are random. I don't think you'll have problems with the standard pitches, but his fucked up ones are the Freedom Fastball, which is his 3rd pitch, you basically have to hit it almost as soon as he throws it, then there's the American Dream, which is the anime spinning one, it lands in the same spot, but is kinda slow at 120km/h, that'll be his 5th and his last pitch and then there's the Soaring Eagle, which is fast as fuck and goes one space above, that one should be his 8th pitch.
When it comes to Toylets, I did manage to win the easy and normal ones by following an anon's advice above by feeling the rumble. The more your controller rumbles, the closer you are to the intensity you're supposed to keep the pissing at.
The Di Scuiva thing is a big fuckup, yes.
As far as I'm aware, the scorpion kick heat action shows up as sort of a "counter" heat action when Kaoru's near you, similar to the Komaki counter heat actions.
The hostesses were removed because of the cabaret management shit, same as it was with 0, which is quite disappointing because the hostesses from 6 were really good, I liked all of them except the boring one who looked like her face would melt off any second.
I'm going to post the short clan creator guide in another post.

Okay, about the clan creator. There's no codes anymore, but you can now recruit people from some substories, after beating some street bosses or after beating some arena opponents and some of them are really good, with at least one of them being absolutely essential. I have to add that I started doing clan creator pretty late, in chapter 14 after I've beaten and recruited Amon, so experiences may vary. I basically used the same team throughout the whole ordeal, now someone may know of a better team or whatever (I know about one weak link on my team, I'll explain later), but even then I completely breezed through the whole storyline and it required little input from my part after I lined everyone up in the beginning. The only things I did were ordering everyone to gang up on bosses when they showed up, leveled up people's spirits when they were low on health, used special powers and I had one guy to fix a problematic area in a particular wave that had no boss. Did this shit in the last mission too, I saw people have trouble with it even with paid DLC cards where they had to micromanage constantly, while I just lined everyone up and put the 2 defense guys I had in front of the container and the dozer respectively.
Here's the team I used for almost all of the storyline, I'll put the levels they had when I did the last mission and some comments, such as where to get them. Also, the order they're in is the same order I had them in the clan creator, from left to right:
Genso the God Lv. 6
He's the last yakuza street boss you fight in Kamurocho. After you beat him, you'll find him in Suppon St.
Jo Amon Lv. 6
After you beat all the substories and beat all the Amon brothers, including him, he'll hang out at the rooftop of Serena.
Riki Choshu Lv. 7
You get him through the storyline, before him I used Okada who you can get through recruitment.
Ukyo the Bridge Guard Lv. 7
This guy is absolutely essential because he's the only non-DLC character with the True Repair skill. He's the last thug street boss in Sotenbori. After you beat him, you'll find him at Iwao bridge.
Yuya Lv. 7
After you beat his substory, he'll be waiting for you at West Park near the entrance to purgatory.
Akira Yamaoka Lv. 6
High-level arena opponent, you'll know it's him if one of the opponents has "Self-Taught Kenpo" as their style. After you beat him he'll be in the arena waiting room like all of the others.
Masao Yanagi Lv. 7
Mid-to-high level arena opponent, his style is Karate. However, his style that he uses in clan creator battles isn't since there he uses Kuze's style, which is shit for an attacker. I'd swap him out for Masahiro Chono for the last battle and then put Chono in the left most position instead of Genso the God, as Chono's skill is much more useful.
Tatsumi Fujinami Lv. 7
Same as Choshu, before him I used Tenzan who can be acquired the same way as Okada.
Majima Lv. 7
He's here from the start.

■ About
Sega is proud to announce that the new courtroom thriller from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, Project Judge (working title), will release in 2019 on the PlayStation 4. Project Judge will feature the voice acting talents of Japanese actor / artist Takuya Kimura as the game’s main protagonist, Takayuki Yagami.
Project Judge takes place in modern day Tokyo, following a serial murder case. The main protagonist, private detective Takayuki Yagami (played by Takuya Kimura), is a man of conviction who fights for his beliefs, despite the overwhelming despair surrounding him. Kimura has met extensively with the game’s development team to craft this protagonist, dedicating more than 1,000 minutes of voice recording time for his lines. By putting forth so much effort in developing this role, Project Judge aims to redefine what it means to truly bring a character to life.
Other talented actors, including Akira Nakao, Kenichi Takito, Shosuke Tanihara, and Pierre Taki were brought in to play the game’s supporting roles. Additionally, the rock band Alexandros enhances the drama to its peak with the original theme song Arpeggio and feature song, Your Song. This game is developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios headed by Sega Chief Product Officer Toshihiro Nagoshi. The studio is known primarily for their work on the Yakuza series, which has sold over 11 million copies worldwide. To create an experience in line with the studio’s core belief to “Create enjoyable games that address mature themes” the team spent more than 3 years developing Project Judge‘s story and characters.
Enhancing the game’s position as a courtroom thriller and embodying the feeling of playing a detective, players will need to utilize key investigative skills in conjunction with unique gameplay features to unveil the truths hidden at the core of Project Judge‘s plot.
What lies beyond the suffering and failures of the man trapped within his past; is it a divine revelation, or something more sinister? Stay tuned for more information on Project Judge, the courtroom thriller action game brought to you by the prolific tag team of Takuya Kimura and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios.
■ Characters
Takayuki Yagami (cast: Takuya Kimura)
The main protagonist of Project Judge. A fiercely idealistic ex-defense lawyer turned private detective. After facing a devastating betrayal by one of his former clients, he became known as a fraud who lets murderers run free, effectively destroying his reputation. Now he’s caught up in an enigmatic serial murder case and will need to push his investigative skills to their limit to solve it.
Takashi Genda (cast: Akira Nakao)
A gritty lawyer who has taken on the role of overseeing Yagami’s growth since the start of his career as a lawyer. Even after Yagami’s incident that forced him out of the legal world, Genda still looks after him and helps him find work from time to time.
Kazuya Ayabe (cast: Kenichi Takito)
A detective with Tokyo PD’s Organized Crime Division. Ayabe is a crooked cop who withholds information on investigations for his own benefit, but often helps Yagami with his cases – for a price.
Mitsuru Kuroiwa(cast: Shosuke Tanihara)
A detective with the Tokyo PD’s Organized Crime Division, famous for his leadership skills and high successful arrest rate in Kamurocho. A talented officer who plays by the rules, Kuroiwa sees unknown elements like Yagami as a dangerous nuisance.
Kyohei Hamura (cast: Pierre Taki)
Captain of the Matsugane family, a subsidiary of the Tojo Clan based in Kamurocho. Hamura is self-centered, but he’s also a mastermind skilled in taking others down for his own benefit. He’s heavily involved with Yagami throughout the serial murder case.

They created a new engine for 6 and yes Kamurocho's in there but there's parts of it missing in 6 because the game was obviously rushed. Also, Kiryu goes to a quiet Hiroshima town and not Okinawa, but the comfy locale is pretty similar. Hell, 6 has so many parallels with 3 in fact that you'd be forgiven for thinking that part of it was set in Okinawa.

>Here's what I can help you with.
Much obliged.
The thing with Toylets is that I'm still confused as to how I should use the buttons (again, I hold R2 and tap L2) because despite always losing, my rankings are never below A. I've been following that advice the rumble and now that I've figured the HUD I look at the numbers and try to match that but again, always get R. Kelly'd to kingdom come in the end.
Speaking of Komaki, I was kinda miffed to see that the lessons don't make the abilities readily available and you still gotta purchase them. Overall, this feels like it will be as grindy as Y6 - they took out some things but added others and instead of Technique, Spirit is now the stat I find myself needing the most.
Akira Yamaoka is the supreme gentleman in the white suit, right? My first reaction was wondering what the Silent Hill composer was doing in a Yakuza game. Thanks for pointing out the places they'll be because I recruited the punchout artist in the construction area and that got me thinking everyone would gather there for my convenience. Guess not. Might as well asks - is it the same for sub story hostesses? So far I only recruited the Headmistress and she was at the door of Four Shine.
>>15431684
>>15431700
They gotta stop burning their budget on JAVs and Suntory. I don't mind if they expand Kamurocho, as is, I wish the free roaming were freer, there's a lot of dead ends, staircases that lead nowhere. They could expand on that, maybe do what Yakuza 4 did with undergrounds and rooftops.
>>15431721
>there's parts of it missing in 6
And now it's Sotenbori that's kinda half-assed. Those black holes in the lower shore still trigger my 'tism.
I feel 6 could have been one of the best in the series if it had more content - a few more play spots in Hiroshima, the usual fluff mini-games, more encounter types, the combat as it is in Kiwami 2 and set the finale aboard the Yamato Mk.II.

I still don't fully understand Toylets either. It's a real shitshow for a minigame which seemed to be quite simple at first glance.
>Akira Yamaoka is the supreme gentleman in the white suit, right?
Yes, that's Yamaoka. He's one of the classic Yakuza arena fighters, been there since 3 I think. His gimmick was that he always used the same style as Kiryu for some reason. When it comes to the substory unlockable hostesses, there's much less of them and after you unlock them they all neatly line up next to Four Shine, so no worries about having to scour half the goddamn map to find them like you have to do with some of the clan creator cards. Ironically most of the guys who hide in fuck-off places after you unlock them end up being shitty commons, such as the baseball nigger who can be found on the rooftop of the batting center after you beat his substory. Most of the super rares end up being in either places that you'll go through a lot (Yuya) or in the places where you kick their ass (for the two SR street bosses, it's the exact spot where you beat them, for arena fighters they're always in the arena lobby). The only one who isn't in an obvious spot is Jo Amon.
>And now it's Sotenbori that's kinda half-assed.

But they kinda have to make money on these games, since on my Japanese psn account I see allot of nips playing a Yakuza game every once and awhile.
Now there is a nip that is playing Yakuza 3 hd ps4 port.
But the big question I have now, is that if Judge Eyes is successful in the west if they promote it good enough, not half ass it. Will this be a big series?
Or will they just make random new games sett in Kamurocho but with different mechanics, or do an manga/anime game kinda like with Fist of the Northstar spin off?

Don't worry about the baby, just soldier that part because you'll pass him off for good afterwards. There's a lot of asset re-using which seems to indicate they work on tight budgets. There's also a LOT of product placement but I admit my ignorance on the matter and I don't know who pays who but I'm inclined to think it's the businesses that pay for this virtual ad.
>Will this be a big series?
I'm curious how they're tying this to the Yakuza canon because the Tojo clan is involved and judging by the bit we saw of the Asian district, the setting seems to be post-Yakuza 6.
Side note, after watching the subtitled trailers, I think they're bringing style switch back, you can see the guy's aura switch from red to blue and vice-versa.

I have the feeling they are working on a tight budget for a triple A dev and then have product placement for the Japanese market.
While the JAV stuff and other things they pay a license for, which is why I kinda get the feeling that the Yakuza games are really never meant to come over here to the west to begin with.
The re-using of Assets is just to save money plus they are releasing a yakuza game each year, in the west we did not get kenzan and Ishin plus 2 psp games, I almost thought that the Northstar game was a no go but I was kinda wrong on that one.
I think it will probably be in the same universe so that they can get the fans in Japan to buy it but I don't think they will go further then that tbqh.

the demo was fun. Nothing too special but I really enjoyed the presentation, combat was a little simple but different enough to feel like it's own thing from Yakuza. The pursuit sequence wasn't too great, if you're not in the guys line of sight you shouldn't need to hide, but it just depends on when he's turned around.

Yeah, I hope they don't feel the need to make the fact that it's a Yakuza spinoff obvious in the title. I don't want it to be called Yakuza: Judgement or something like that.
0db3a2 No.15434527

No it has not been confirmed but there is at-least one Yakuza clan in the game, and in the beginning of the demo you are fighting some Yakuza thugs/fellows.
The beginning of the demo is kinda stupid, he has a false beard and a shitty jacked with a caps on, while sitting in the streets then the thugs come along and he has to fight them, he takes of the false beard and the jacked in one swoop.
>>15433122
The style is pretty different but at the same time it feels like something those guys would've made, if that makes sense.
>>15434222
they are calling the game so far in the west for project judge, so expect it to just be called judge or something along those lines

>he takes off the false beard and the jacket in one swoop.
To be fair, whenever you are about to have a serious fight in Yakuza, Kiryu vs. whoever the big bad of the day is would always rip off their jacket, tie, and shirt all in one fell swoop. In other words, it never made any sense, but this game isn't taking itself too seriously, so it doesn't really matter all that much.

I think the fake beard removing looked weird because it's not like it was thick or anything, it was a scraggly patchy beard that would be realistic for a homeless guy to have. It looked like it should be completely natural.

But, if you think about it, disguises will be one of the main elements of the game right? Since you guys thought that the beard was real at first, it just simply means that the disguise worked, for it was convincing!
Anyway, I can see what you guys mean, to be honest when I was first playing the demo I too thought that our main character turned into a hobo.

I thought it was Akiyama at first in the demo, and was wondering what he did to become homeless once again.
0db3a2 No.15434697
>>15434679
just how? They showed the main protagonist then cut with a 3 years later then showing him homeless but he was in disguise as a homeless man. Also the pants chain all of sudden showed up when he in one swoop took his homeless disguise off, so that was jacket and fake beard also I think the caps.
e4a70d No.15434709
>>15434697
It wasn't completely obvious that the guy it was zooming in on was the player character, and his disguise was very similar to what Akiyama wears when he's homeless. Akiyama could have had a role in this game, not like I would know before the demo.

I dunno, I think it was kinda obvious but what got me was the beard looking so real. I kinda want the beard to look a little bit more fake then this hyper realistic homeless beard.
I all of a sudden thought that there would be a an extra cut-scene or something that would be showing him homeless then changing into this private detective with a bike jacket, fancy jeans then white shoes.
Not a fell swoop and he changing.

Finally spent some proper time with CC and beat the first Musketeer. Overall, I have to admit I am struggling a lot more than in Y6's CC, probably because the units have a smaller aggro range (or the area is larger) so it's not as "auto-piloty". Was also tricky to get the hang of the mechanics, I'm actually surprised at how much things changed given repeating mini-games tend to be almost a copy-paste job.
This game is also a freakin' money sink, already put in about 5 mirrion in this crap, mostly by fortifying stuff. Got lucky and got about 5 of the Y6 'rasslers by recruiting.
Won the Serene Bat and beat Dandy. Once again, thanks for the pointers on his pitches. And on a semi-related note, I think I figured what was bugging me the most about Kamurocho's more vibrant denizens - the fuckers ain't basketball-americans, they're straight from the dark continent itself.
Also on the matter of the batting cages (and some other mini-games) I wish there was a option to continue instead of the game automatically closing and then having to re-enter. That middle point gets a bit annoying especially when this will likely get grindy, I'm making 35 points per session and need about 3000 or 4000 for both primers.

I remember 3 having way more cultural enrichers than any other game in the series, though honestly it might just be a change exclusively made for the cucked Western version. Even in Kiwami 2, the only times I saw BASED blacks were in the Debolah and in that cutscene where the Millennium Tower blows up.
When it comes to farming batting points, both methods I saw still require a boring grind.
One of them is homerun challenge (the one where you talk to Yoshida)+blue bat, the other is doing the Expert 1 challenge course over and over+red bat.

3 started one of the worse trends in the series which was introducing a gazillion "hilarious" side characters for every little feature and mini-game. Thank goodness 0 toned that down and 6 damn near got rid of it.

same reason guys in the west hire amigos, significantly cheaper and they can't bitch about working conditions because they're off the books. Plus if it's like the states even if your worker gets deported you don't get penalized. That's one of the biggest issues with foreign illegal labor in the states is that they just send the workers home and the guy who hired them just goes and gets more

Indeed. I don't mind dumb side characters, the clashing of the serious crime drama with absolute batshit characters in substories and serious substories which hit you in the feels is a series staple, but only if the bumbling idiot is a part of some just ONE (1) substory, otherwise they more likely than not overstay their fucking welcome by a long shot.

Makes perfect sense for labor jobs but a barker? Their job is basically making a pitch for a bar/club/etc, right? You see a swarthy foreigner walking your way, I think the instinctual reaction is to nope away.
>>15441740
There's a limit to everything and IMO 3 crosses that line and by 5 you run into all of them and it gets exhausting. I'm perfectly fine with the masters being a bit on the eccentric side since you spend a good chunk of time with them and Komaki has more appearances than some main characters but, again, there's a limit.
DS got the worst of it because all your nobody partners have their own set of substories and eat away about one third of a character's substories, the only good one is Arase from Yakuza 1 just because it's someone actually memorable for killing best gril.

My Finnish friend told me that certain bars and nightclubs in Helsinki employ what is literally known as a "toilet nigger", they're hired by the bar/nightclub to peddle shit like cigarettes because they can't sell them in the open by law.
Now since the life and stories of an average Finn are part truth, part absurdist comedy, I don't know if he was for real or if he was just fucking with me and I got pranked.

Kenshiro skin for FotNS is going to be a free DLC between October 2 to 16. Pretty nice of them given this was a pre-order bonus in the JP version.
Speaking of free stuff, Kiwami 2 Fun Pack 2 was pretty good for CC - 300 tickets and Kawara.
Meanwhile, finally cleared Paradise League of the CCGP; I don't think AIKA was ever railed this hard. But her weird cheekbones aside, I'll admit I took a immediate liking to her but Kiryu better watch out.
Executive League kicks off with some bullshit and a interesting twist I think the biggest surprising was seeing that Youda hasn't aged a freakin' second since the 80's, heck! I could swear it's the same model from Zero.

Spent some time in the coliseum and just want to say fuck those Jujutsu assholes, must have gotten hit by that goddamned sidestep kick like 50 times. Even on Hard, the enemies don't really do much damage so it feels like we're getting pecked to death. Also got to fight Komaki and Yamaoka, just Komaki most have more HP than every enemy I thought so far and I'm sure Amon will have twice that but Yamaoka was the one that damn near killed me, basically a comically sped-up Kiryu clone and he's now a glorified mook because the devs are cheapskates. On that note, the gangs from Kiwami 1 pop up in CC and I could swear as I did with Youda the models are straight up ripped from the game they came from.
On the plus side, I'm starting to get the hang of CC, been rolling with Majima, Kawara, Kurahashi and some guy with repair skill and 4 'rasslers as back up.

I'm glad they gave him Kiryu's moveset just like in the original and didn't give him Mine's moveset for some stupid reason like in the PS3 games. Not to mention, he can now just show up in any of the harder arena tournaments and you didn't have to pull down the sun, moon and all of the stars down to the Earth just to unlock him like you had to do in the original, what's worse is that you NEEDED to unlock and then beat him in order to be able to fight the Amon brothers.

I feel this game really wants the player to use weapons and the difficulty has been raised to accommodate that.
Anywho, currently on Ch9 with about 35h clocked in and only now I felt like trying golf (which I hated in the previous games) which I ended up enjoying but holy shit! I'm terrible at it. Managed to get 400+ points in the Beginner course but I haven't scored one point in the Intermediate one; obviously we're meant to master the spin shots there. It then dawned on me I need to master this mini-game in order to unlock every skill. So, the inevitable question - any tips for golf?
And finally figured Toylets and now I feel like an idiot. The HUD makes the game very confusing, the description mentions matching the opponent's stream which I did until the end not figuring out that once the blue circle is full, you need to hold R2 to fill the bar and win. That was the missing piece of the puzzle.

The skillbook requirements for the golf range aren't hard in Kiwami, you need to get at least 500 points in any of the standard courses (difficulty doesn't matter) for the first one, and you need to hit all the squares in the bingo challenge for the second one. The substory on the other hand is quite difficult, but not like in the original, I did it on my 4th try, but I have to admit it's because I got extremely lucky and managed to get a hole in one. When it comes to tips - just watch the wind. Lining up the shot and giving it enough power and hitting the sweet spot isn't hard at all imo, but getting used to how the game calculates wind strength takes practice. If you do the bingo challenge over and over again (like I did when I wanted to get the second skill book) you'll get used to compensating for wind, as the more squares you hit the more difficult hitting the remaining one gets.

Once again, some key element goes completely over my head. I guess clearing the bar menus affected me too.
