What are your thoughts on the romance options in Bioware rpgs? Any of them you particularly liked? Any you hated? As for me personally, I found myself liking Tali and Morrigan the most out of all of them. They were my earliest Bioware romances and, well, you never truly forget your firsts. My most hated is Neera in the Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 Enhanced Editions. Her tumblr written dialogue sounds so inferior compared to the eloquent speech of Aerie, Jaheira, and Viconia. It only serves to remind me just how far the writing standards at Bioware have fallen since the originals.
More importantly however, I compiled a history of (most) romance options from every rpg that BioWare has ever made. I also put [brackets] around any characters that were strictly lesbian for female MCs, strictly gay for male MCs, OR attracted to both male & female MCs. "LGBT" choices, basically. Almost immediately, you'll notice that only the Sonic RPG and the original Baldur's Gate 2 are the only ones with heterosexual-only options. The latter was even retconned with the awful Enhanced Edition to correct the original's lack of pozzitivity. What a shame.
Why did I compile this list? I just wanted to see when Bioware games first started getting pozzed with lgbt options (since 2003 with KotOR), and which were the worst offenders (it's Dragon Age 2).

As far as i know only one of them can be impregnated, which is a massive waste of potential if you ask me. You could have the protag of dragon age 2 be the son/daughter of the graywarden in origins and then the child of the second protag gets to be the hero of 3.
Would be perfect to be honest, having a 16-20 year time period between the games setting would also negate the need to make every choice matter since most people wouldn't write down every tiny little thing the warden did.

It took me by surprise, too. Since it's only an mmo, you'd think Bioware would have just gotten lazy and put Zero effort into making these love interests. But truthfully, their personalities and romantic storylines were surprisingly varied and elaborate. For an mmo anyway. Remember, TORtanic did try to sell itself as being a more "story-driven" than other mmos before it failed miserably. I guess this was just part of that claim.
Take the Sith for example. You can start a romance with your apprentice, or with your slave, or with a cloned girl, or seduce a jedi padawan to the dark side. And these storylines were not as lazy or copied&pasted as I expected them to be.

Ideally, romances give some extra flavor to a playthrough, but they shouldn't be the main focus of the character or the game as often is the case. One problem with BG romances is that they end abruptly if you pick the wrong dialogue choice, and usually there's no way to fix things. I guess that's realistic, but it makes the characters less appealing.

I already do have it listed up there in my previous post (near the bottom), in case you missed it. 1 straight romance for male MCs (Dawn Star) and 2 "bisexual" choices that can be pursued by both male or female MCs (Silk Fox and Sky). One thing unique about Jade Empire is that a male MC can romance both Dawn Star and Silk Fox at the same time, without either girl getting mad. You can even have a threesome with them. Usually, most other Bioware rpgs punish you for wanting a romantic relationship between 3+ people, but Jade Empire had no qualms about that.

Maybe it's just nostalgia but i remember liking all of the romance options in DA:origins apart from Leliana's BUT the characters desperately needed face-lifts ie mods to make them attractive and more fit to whatever their personalities were.

There are a few issues with BioWare's writing in general. Since they do fully-voiced dialogue in all their games, that limits the amount of dialogue they can record so the budget doesn't get out of control. The whole buildup ends up having to be resolved in a handful of conversations instead of more gradually like you would expect. It's a bit ham-fisted no matter who you pursue. Mass Effect 3 in particular had issues with all its writing because the guy who wrote the first two games and a couple of books quit before the 3rd one.

Cosmetic skins mean no, but lorewise they'll probably all look like darth sideous the more the more they tap into the dark side. Sometimes they get hotter like a femme fatale though.
Its been a while since i played but your character starts getting massive wrinkles the more dark side choices you make but at least you have an option to turn off dark side cosmetics.
Incidentally i prefer the jedi knight romance, something about a former sith unwittingly turning you towards the dark side is intriguing.

I recall being extremely disappointed with the lack of interesting love interests for male players in Dragon Age Inquisition.
If you play as an straight male, you can choose either Cassandra or Josephine, both of whom are very bland in comparison to Leliana/Morrigan and hell, even Isabella and Merril were more interesting despite Dragon Age II being a worse game than Inquisition. Female straight players get to date Cullen and Iron Bull, two male characters that are highly fetishizied in-universe in contrast to Cassandra or Josephine. They can also date Blackwall, who has at least the mysterious past appeal and if they are elves they can date Solas, bumping the total number of love interests to 4 in contrast to just two. Meanwhile, you can opt to start a romance with Dorian (the token gay character) at any time you want. Do note that this is the only character you are allowed to do this, since you need to show interest at someone from the first act in order to develop their romance properly. And the only lesbian romance they have is with Sera, who is an unbearable character on her own.
Overall, female characters are less likely to be sexualized, have sordid pasts or grayer personalities than males. This is what made me realize Dragon Age Inquisition was an game made for an female/gay audience rather than a male oriented one, which is tragic since if statistics are to be believed, most gamers that played were male.
