Doki Doki panic was a finished project for Super Mario Brothers 2, it was basically, well, completely finished. All done. Now, Nintendo Corporate being, let's call it a little overzealous with production based on prior product success, so essentially they looked at the project and essentially said "This is too different than SMB1 could you do something more similar to SMB1 also, you have a somewhat brief deadline, hop to it. So with these two issues combined they quickly went back to the production starting with SMB1 as a base and adding iterations and slotting in the new set of stage, iirc they recycled assets from All Night Nippon Mario Bros or something like that to freshen up the visuals and it was quickly shipped to the public, in the mean time they were contracted to make a game by a company called Tokyo TV or something like that I'm not 100% on the name, however that's not the point, they recycled the prototype for SMB2 and reskinned it into a new game, and here's where it gets confusing, the title was rather popular (because it's fucking good) and was turned back into a Mario game when it was released internationally. Starcraft 2 was actually originally meant to be an entirely different game, originally the game was supposed to be a third-person title called "Pioneer", (similar to the canceled Starcraft game called "Ghost") the main protagonist was apart of a science program to explore the outer reaches of space and see if it was safe for humanity to leave Earth, his name was "Spectre". Any part of the story from there however is lost due to Blizzard promising it's fans that another Starcraft game would be on the way.
Every asset from the original game were repourposed to be Starcraft related, this is why the Terran look nothing like the original bare minimalists rednecks from Starcraft 1 and instead an incredibly Sci-fi to the maximum direction instead.
Interestingly enough, Spectre and his model, were kept in Starcraft 2 as an optional unit to acquire during the Wings of Liberty campaign, this was most likely due to how much time and effort was put into the model, his portrait in-game is actually a concept gif created during the development phases of the original game.

Doom was originally going to be a licensed Predator game, but ID Software chose not to purchase the license due to the outrageous cost and the lack of interest from designer Tom Hall. In Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, during the Tanker section of the game, if you hide in one of the lockers which have a poster of a girl and proceed to call Otacon on the codec you will assist to a conversation during which Snake seems to be "pleasuring" himself much to the shock of his partner.
Not many people know but this is a direct reference to Hidea Kojima's troubled school days when he'd be frequently bullied by getting shoved into a locker by Japanese jocks, and he'd cope with the shame by touching himself for a couple of minutes. The fetish Kojima has developed after that is also the sole reason you can hide in lockers in Metal Gear Solid games from 2 onwards.
