I know this is a dumb idea for a thread but I'm trying to bring something new to the table.
If you were playing a game where you can name your saves, what and why would you name it? For me, I just name the saves after the level I'm playing (mainly for Doom).
Another thing I'd like to add would be any special attributes to saves. Like for example, if you save, you'd get one extra life when you load up the game?. What kind of suggestion would you make to spice up the save system.

When I quit my gaming session I save into saves named Final1, 2, 3 etc. I usually keep around 5 of those so that I can always go back. During session I save into saves named Temp1, 2, 3 etc. I also add some basic info to my Final saves - what playthrough it is, difficulty, date and time in ISO 8601 format, game version and mods if I use them. I never use quick save and quick load.

Alternatively I just look at dates.
For things where I really have a need to go back, there is usually a more viable option of starting over (VNs mostly). Even if you try to log the entire context into a single file description, it's so out of the way and so unhelpful (due to chara limit and lack of demand) that it rarely ever pays off.

If there's a limit to slots, I tend to round-robin at least two numerically named files, with additional descriptive ones for the last major event or something I might want to go dick around with.
If there's no limit and they're sorted chronologically, I just mash a few keys. Maybe an occasional xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to mark off something of interest.

Something like that usually as I'm a lazy fugger so I just auto-mash a few keys cos I want it done quickly, unless I've savescummed to a vital point and then I invariably name it: 'THIS' or 'cuntfight' if there's a big bad that's a pain in the ass.

Spicing up the savescreen somehow is a novel idea, their dull utilitarian nature kind of makes them a blind spot for innovation, most of what I can think of is in-game consequences for using it. I suppose you could try to dissuade people from saving, make the screen sombre/grim as fuck, all wailing, guillotines and guts, make it clear that clicking saving is going to fug your guy up somehow.
>Dangerous environment game: On every save you suffer an illness or are drugged with appreciable effects or sensory disablement like partial blindness, being knocked deaf or whatever and you've then got to get it cured in-game, or live with it and/or the creeping addiction that comes as more saves pile up.
>If a random number of hours pass in one session upon saving your most used weapon/item is gambled for another type to disrupt savscumming and encourage new tactics.

This is what I imagined. If I had 6 saves in a game, that would mean I had 6 parallel dimensions.

This just kind of sounds like Undertale shit that's trying to guilt trip you for using a function of the video game. I think savescumming comes down to the responsibility of the player. This reminds me of that one post an Anon made years back about how he wanted a game to cause a BSoD under certain circumstances.

It depends
How different can I make the hcaracter(s) I'm playing with?
If it's Legend of Zelda style where I have some optional stuff but most of the stuff is necessary, I don't give a fuck.
If I can make very different sorts of players I try to find a suting name or just call the save by the class I'm playing as.

Dates. Always. That way I can always return to a game and tell when I first made the save, or when I last saved. That way I can return to the game, reminisce, and get sense of nostalgia over it for about 15 minutes before I stop playing them again and move on to the next thing I miss doing and repeat with that.
I do the same thing with screenshots of games, pictures, and other screenshots, but I name those after date and exact time so that I can look at them 10 years down the line and think about how that was what I was doing a decade ago, and about other things that were going on in my life at that point.

Yeah, or it could be more integral to the game's structure, say the game has Alpha Protocol levels of protagonist difference and significant decisions that show the player different parts of the game so they get the 100% cravings and with each new path taken an old version of you (who is violently opposed to your current path) becomes self-aware/aware of the game and joins up with others who feel the same to stop you from becoming the big dick in the multiverse. Time travel could be an element, problem then becomes writing a coherent story.
