I just wondered a bit why they care to have physical forms or realms where they reside. You'd think that, if they were invincible, they wouldn't bother with physical forms, but that's just my own philosophy.
Anyway, to get back on topic, my favorite type of demons are found in certain situations. Let me try to explain. I like it when everything is going to hell, and things start out bad (zombies, traitorous soldiers, robots running rampage, etc) but then it gets so bad where it seems like you're fighting literal demons from hell, or some other supernatural entity other than aliens. It makes the fights seem so much more intense, and really gets the sweat building up. I'm sure there are other games that do this, but the only one I can think of is System Shock 2 with The Many.

You can banish their avatars and such, but the chaos god is still there in the warp doing warp bullshit.
For example, the emperor couldnt have "fought" khorne face to face, his fight would be a psychic battle or him banishing some sort of avatar from realspace.

What makes a demon's design truly iconic? Is adding blood and gore not enough to be "demonic" or does it have to really get under your skin in an odd or bizarre way? I'd sway to the latter, as something like agony flopped in its attempt of designing Hell.
Middle age and Renaissance depictions of demons are my favorites, and any derivatives with demons like it are all the better for it.

Nips are so heads over heels for Nobunaga that even in games where he is supposed to be the villain, he always gets the coolest designs. In Nioh, for a game that's supposed to be sucking Ieyasu's dick, he was still portrayed as being above the whole thing and simply just leaves after giving you his spirit bird. I think the Nips secretly wish they get such a visionary, ruthless and unbelievably lucky up until just before his downfall leader again.

I frowned at it at first but playing the game and seeing the monsters in motion, particularly the chimera, hydra and dragonkin, I ended up loving the conservative art direction because for what it is, it is exceptionally well done. The level of care shows in the artbook when you see how Ikeno even drew skeletons for all sorts of monsters.
They did have some more daring, colorful ideas though those were mostly for NPCs.

Despite a very rough demeanor and very poor people skills, the man was a westaboo visionary. In a era defined by outstanding men, he still stands out as one of its greatest. He was quite lucky Uesugi Kenshin croaked in the shitter, among other things.
He was pretty cool in Nioh but it kinda irks how KT dindus the shit out of everyone. Also, I'm very partial to Sengoku Basara's portrayal of the very topic relevant Nobunaga because he's now canonically a literal Demon King. You just can't beat Norio Wakamoto with a shotgun AND a fuckin' Stand.

The artstyle of the early final fantasies and the GB remakes are all great, but the final rush of Pandaemonium in FFII is a high point imo, just brilliant. It's a somewhat strange game that can be an acquired taste overall, but that final chapter is awesome, just conceptually, storming the fortress of damnation and battling the great dukes of hell on your way to basically overthrowing Satan himself, doesn't get much more intense of a situation than that.

It grounds his work. It probably doesn't help that all of his cool shit gets spammed throughout the series, but his designs hold up enough to allow that to be quite tolerable, and his art has distinct shade that feels like it imitates classical marble statues, but given the subject matter it brings elegance to whatever his designs are used in.
If anything, his use of color scheme are what make his demons memorable, notice that in most of the stuff he's done he sticks to a very simple and oftentimes saturated color pallete not counting his shading, but uses it in a way that defines the silhouette no matter what the backdrop is.

Is there even a succubus design that doesn't boil down to woman with bat wings? Darkstalkers, CV, SMT, Dragon's Dogma to a certain extent (it's the harpy model adapted to have bat wings) etc. Ackshually, now that I recall it, the succubi in the Witcher games are satyr-like but that's the only exception that comes to mind.

I think the horn and hovees depiction was a Christian conception to spite paganism. In the pagan culture sacrificing goats to gods was a common practice and they had some benevolent goat like divinities (pan for example). Since Christianity wanted to fight pagan practices they started to depict them as evil, implying such practices were aimed at summoning demons. Same thing with the pentacle, that is a pagan symbol and not a infernal one. By demonizing the pagan practices, this is how the Christian demon iconography was born.

You can, actually, either with some holy bullshit or with ridiculous amount of heavy ordnance (likely both). Only, a new chaos god would likely get born soon after (or one of the greater demons would take the mantle) due to the emotions that spawned him in the first place still being present. Of course, one should remember that chaos gods didn't always exist and that the Eldar being degenerates was needed to put the whole thing in motion. So, theoretically, if, say, the Imperium managed to actually conquer the galaxy and impose some sort of law and order that'd prevent degeneracy and violence from taking too big a hold, it could prevent this from happening (especially if the eye of terror was also somehow closed). Problem is, what all the chaos gods do is try to further foster the emotions that gave them birth, so trying to defeat them this way is a very tall order. Ultimately, killing a chaos god wouldn't achieve much save for throwing Chaos into disarray for a while, unless you could back it up with somehow closing the eye of terror through magical means.
If Chaos ever gets completely eradicated, I imagine it'll be by shit like the Emprah getting healed, standing up from his throne, and personally kicking their ass or some other bullshit like that.
