der langrisser is fun, but the AI is garbage; langrisser II genesis has much better AI and looks better

I suppose the best version would be a der langrisser with the genesis AI, but it wasn't meant to be

I've never really been able to get into these games, but I love the art.

There's always the possibility of a romhack doing something like that, but the chances of someone putting that much effort into a hack for such a niche game are very slim.

The artist's name is Satoshi Urushihara. He mostly does hentai.

All I remember is a reference to Keanu Reeves and one to Final Fantasy VII, which is pretty tame for them. The voice acting is atrocious, but you can turn it off. I never understood why so many people praise the voice acting in their localizations; they were all terrible.

Der Langrisser is probably the easiest Langrisser game to get into if you're coming from SRPGs like Fire Emblem and Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time is the best place to start with the Growlanser series.

Not that I know of, most likely because most of them haven't been translated into English. The ones that have are Langrisser on the Genesis(released as Warsong in the west, but there's a fan retranslation that's more in line with the Japanese original), Langrisser I: Art of the Swords War(a remake of the first game for PC), Langrisser II on the Genesis, Der Langrisser on the SNES(a retelling of the II with a lot more content) and Langrisser IV on the PS1. There is also a fan translation for Langrisser III supposedly in the works.

I assume the PC version of the first game is the best one, but I haven't played it because all of the download links I've come across for it are dead, even the one that used to be up on the ISO Zone(RIP.) With Langrisser II and Der Langrisser, which one is superior is up for debate. II has better AI, better graphics, better audio quality and the ability to have more than one type of soldier in each squad, while Der Langrisser has more content, many branching paths and even has a bit of character creation at the beginning. And as far as I know, only the PS1 version Langrisser IV has been translated.

I'd be playing on Japanese so no worries on that part. I read that Der Langrisser, while having more content is significantly easier than Langrisser II, that's what sparked this doubt if there are any other with such differences between versions

I see. Der Langrisser is a little easier because the AI is dumber, almost suicidal at times. To compensate they made enemies tougher and there are usually more of them per map than in II.

The 3ds one was god awful, but I still hope they can turn it around. I'm surprised it still has any presence in the first place.
