We play this game every year for Teagan, unintentionally one of the best characters ever created.

Because the monsters you commonly fight in UT are pre-made monsters that come with a new RPG Maker project. Feral most likely just kept choosing two or three monsters for each screen. Seeing as the game orders them be difficulty, it would make sense to do this if you really can't be bothered to make custom fights/monsters.

I feel like I get it. Arietta sees no love in childrearing for its own sake; she does it purely out of the pressure of the setting. No Cantobiles, no world tuning. No wonder future Cantobiles would be as fucked up as they were.
Arietta could have framed it as having a child with Altair, like I feel he'd have been happy about if he weren't sterile. Sure, use magic as a workaround, but why not appreciate the idea of settling down with someone you love? The glass is half full, that's a better look than "you exist out of a loveless obligation."
Or even go full tragedy, and Arietta ends up leaving Altair out of duty even though she doesn't want to. Stir up feelings, regrets and questions of what-ifs in both characters' minds. Then Alto's meeting with them in uncommon time can give resolution to that.
Something about that scene feels jarring. Like it's trying to be uplifting when it's sad, or uplifting when it's trying to be sad.

The backstory has logic holes in it (the obvious being why isn't a family this important pumping out enough kids to own ten dynasties) but there's at least two big things they do wrong.

The former is confirmed in Alto's Uncommon Time, while the latter is probable. Ending 1 says Alto will confront her parents and stop them from continuing the cycle. They can either talk it out, or they will fight (as we can assume) to whip Alto back in line.
As far as villains go, I imagine the Cantobiles being well meaning like you suggest. But hey, maybe we'll have more thoughts about that at a certain later point.

Long story short, training to play The Song that Saves the World takes a heavy toll on the body, specifically the wrists, which requires corrective surgery to ensure the continued ability to play The Song that Saves the World. This is something that has been going on for generations.
Of course, in the bonus dungeon you find out that all of that was unnecessary so all of the anguish was pointless and Alto is 100% justified in wanting to end the practice of teaching The Song that Saves the World.
Oh, and Alto's father hit Alto when she asked for a new Cello when she already had one.

The encounter rate was grand in the Uncommon Time zone, though I admit Metronome Tower was a bit too high.
Actually, I take that back. You know what the actual issue is? Uncommon Time zone has variety, but Metronome Tower is the same fight. It's some combination of Ice Warrior, Ice Mage and Ice Healer. This is a good fight, but it's the only good fight. The pop skeletons? Stiltin' Jack? The Beam Dogs? Bravura? They are all very different fights, with easter eggs, theme, and clever spins on mechanics. It feels like what Undertale was trying to go for.
The ice soldiers all play out the same. Nuke the support on your first turn, then recover. Have the warrior soak up your attacks. Snipe the icicles when they're summoned. This is not a bad encounter, it's just the only encounter in Metronome Tower. If there were two others to balance it out, it'd be fresher. Instead it just bottles some pressure that makes us want to escape.

What rock have you been living under? Almost every RPG in existence - certainly every JRPG - has enemies with some kind of weakness that isn't readily apparent. This game is no different in that regard. Same with strategies. While UT didn't have any such strategies, you must remind yourself that that was UT, and shouldn't be held to any standards whatsoever. Yes, I'm calling it shit because of the similarly atrocious encounter rate - not unlike what UT had. Even though it was made by one person and obviously not much effort was put into it (which I can understand), I think it's inexcusable duet anon didn't find a problem with the encounter rate and how each battle - the random ones, that is - takes forever to complete, partly because Teagan can't level up from them.

Just as I'm glad about the direction for Duet, so too is it fitting that Coda isn't a happy ending. Anything else just wouldn't work.
That said, we haven't yet gotten the best ending. Which in hindsight is what makes me happiest about the story in this game. I couldn't kill Aubrey, so I was lucky to get it first go. I don't think I coulda taken the heartache from killing her off

The thing is, in this ending they never knew that the World Tuning isn't supposed to go down this way, so as far as Aubery knows, this IS what's supposed to happen. Of course, that's the only apologia I can muster. The reality is probably something more akin to ensuring a tragic ending no matter which ending you get.

You said in the last thread, Duet, that you felt you had more fun with the other characters than with Teagan herself. Aubrey for me is the standout example. It's not just that I like my twist endings, but it also felt a bit more…fulfilling? Teagan says the tuning is worth it if Aubrey lives. That the heartbroken wreck gets to do so, and do something with it, is good. That and I just really like the ending picture.

Partly, cinematic license. Partly, anyone who knows Baroque's character and his parenting knows he will not change his mind. All that this showed was that he was a tool, like Alto, and that despite this he genuinely cared in his own way. The story, like Aubrey, simply cut to the point.
And the biggest part is, Aubrey is not a very rational actor here. She hates the world tuning because as she says, it took everything from her. As she also says, a world that depends on it isn't one worth living in. That Baroque will continue with the tuning is motivation enough.
I wish it was fleshed out more simply because I like Baroque as a character, but then again I was always rather interested by the Cantabile family, despite us never seeing them.

I don't think he would have ended the tradition because of what he would have been told, and that would probably lead to Aubery killing him either way, but it probably would have been better that way.
Thinking on it, I think CODA's biggest flaw in the storytelling is that it's rushed. The characters really don't have time to breathe. Teagan kills Bravura, then she's at the tower in the next scene. Then there's no dialogue until Teagan is fighting against the apparitions of Saki and Meirin. Then it's straight to the top of the tower to fight Alto.
As I had said in the previous thread, I think the characters needed some time to dwell on their actions rather than just rushing into them one after the other.

I've been suffering from some pretty bad depression for years now. Things have been getting worse, and I ended up hospitalizing myself twice over the past year. It's gotten to the point where I can't say for certain that I'll still be alive in a year. I'm gonna try the best I can to stay alive, and I do think I will keep going, but there's a chance I'll an hero before August 11, 2019. In case this really is my last stream, I just want to say a few things. Thank you, truly from the bottom of my heart, thank you all. Streaming this game with you fags has always been incredibly fun, and in some of my darkers moments I've even thought "I can't kill myself yet, I still have to stream Uncommon Time." (That probably sounds kinda pathetic, huh.) And while you're not the only reason I'm still alive, you've all definitely helped. So, thank you.
Also, while I have your attention, I'd like to encourage any of you suffering from depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, or anything else to please get some help. There's nothing wrong or shameful about getting help you need, especially if it might keep you alive. For some of you it may seem like no one in your life cares about you, and that you should just end it all. Let me just tell you, I care about you. I honestly do care about everyone who's came and made Uncommon Time the fun event that it is. Even the shitposters.
If you don't hear about a new stream from me by August 12th, I might have kicked the bucket. After that, I encourage anyone who wants to stream to pick up the torch and go forth. As I've always said, as long as anons remember, Uncommon Time will live on. Even if it is without me.

One big problem with it that people identified pretty well is that it rushes really fast from one scene to another, but part of that was down to me trying to cut as much irrelevant stuff as I could in order to make sure that I'd actually finish it. One thing that I now think is important that I wasn't able to do was having part of Teagan's Uncommon Time show up in Bravura's. The idea is that neither of them could find salvation in only themselves, so Teagan wouldn't be able to change anything if she only went into her own mind but Teagan ends up talking about her family as her reason for still trying to do the World Tuning, so I feel like it's missing that plot beat of Teagan seeing them (and probably a younger Alto in a happier time) in her memories. There's a problem that I don't really know what to do with Teagan's family. I don't actually consider myself to be a very creative person so making them up out of almost whole cloth would be hard for me.
I'm definitely going to patch it a little for next time, but I don't know if I'll go back and try to add all of that or try and move on to some other project.

The original plotline was based on this idea that Teagan's quest would truly start after her ending in which she killed Alto.
The idea was that we wanted to expand on the world that Alto created and come up with a real reason for the batshit insanity of Uncommon Time.
We decided that Harmonia was probably something like a mixture of Israel/The Vatican which is how it was so commie. There was a bunch of not-Protestant reformation stuff, Teagan trying to get back to Harmonia after the winter starts, and her dealing with the consequences of her own actions as well as that of Alto.

The biggest problem ultimately is that whilst the basic concept was good our ideas had shifted from being focused on Teagan.

My sorry excuse for doing so is main media and culture shitting on fatherhood continuously. Recently, I have enjoyed works where estranged traditional, masculine fathers have been reconnecting with their families (like Endeavor in Academia or the recent Jaina developments in WoW even though I don't play it).
But, as it was shown in duet, to gain forgiveness one must recognize their wrongdoing and then ask for it. Not even Jesus Christ saved the unrepentant and the unwillingly. And as much it makes me sad, Alto's dad is too far gone for nothing under a great miracle.

Baroque just isn't that. What we know is vague but damning, and Duetanon took the most benevolent route. He didn't know what he was doing because he was a victim of it himself. That said, I don't think any story is impossible to tell so hey, we'll see what the next abandonware Teaganquest brings. I'm also close to people IRL who had shitty relationships with their parents but turned those around. Funny what can happen

The alternatives, insofar as we can see, are not explored after the Cantabile solution is found. By the story, humans wrack their heads for a solution besides tuning until Arietta suggest it, at which point we're told nothing about any attempts. The party's resolve to find a way in ending 1 implies to me that there were almost none; we put all our eggs in the one bowing basket.
But the real problem with it? In short, it was 100% utilitarian.
For the long version, lemme bring up the age old adage of mind, body and soul. A good, well-adjusted, happy person nurtures and grows all three. Arietta's decision to have a family was 100% pragmatic. It's not that she wanted to embrace being a mother and bringing new life to care for; she just wanted to ensure there'd be a successor to perform the World Tuning. This is focused overly on the body, with some of the mind, but little of the soul. A farmer can only love the soil they till so much. While we are told she was a good mother, the consequence of this thinking still starts here. There wasn't any love in her daughter's conception, and Arietta was honest about that. Nothing mattered except their ability to perform. This is a mistake Arietta rightly apologises for, but the damage was done.
The simplest solution would have been to embrace the idea of a supportive, happy family. Arietta should have seen the glass half full, and looked forward to settling down with her ♥ honey Altair and raising a good family. Regardless of her ability to provide, the reality was different, and created an impression that cascaded from heir to heir. Hollowing them out. Culminating in the Alto we came to know. A human is not a tool: they are a human, and believing otherwise leads to disaster. It's no wonder the Cantabiles would become what they did; the pressure of duty outweighed basic humanity.
Even if contained in just a single family, the Cantabiles were not simply an for civilisation in the UT setting, but a crucial pillar. A civilisation that can't allow for human nature is one destined to implode, as is any person who neglects their mental health.
On that note, remember to take care of yourselves, you all deserve to be happy

At first, I was under the impression that what you're saying can't be true simply because (as you had stated before) Arietta is stated to be a good mother, but thinking on it, what you're saying can be the ONLY truth.
There are NO branch families in the Cantabile line. There are no mention of ANYONE outside of the Cantabile line who can perform the World Tuning. Every Cantabile from Arietta to Baroque had only ONE child who exists solely to carry on the World Tuning. One would assume that somewhere down the line a Cantabile would fall in love with someone and have a couple of children, but that doesn't appear to be the case. There are no whore-sons from any of the brothels in Harmonia, there are no bastard children from a tryst with the baker's daughter, no concubines brought back from the World Tuning adventure.
There appears to be nothing beyond the marriages between Cantabiles and a talented nobles to continue the World Tuning. And Teagan, showing Alto what a real family is like, is the catalyst that causes the whole tradition to implode.

My secret technique. In the hyperlink, I changed the "search" part to "tagged" so it gets things actually connected to the hashtag. Tumblr's search function seems to be shite, because the better stuff is conventionally there
And yeah, Saki gets a lot of the decent stuff. If I had to project it's because he's the ever-friendly nice guy who doesn't let on how shit he feels; that's relatable to young people these days.

tl;dr
Teagan's father is a tailor and her mother is a guard.
Tristan (Teagan's eldest brother) is a prostitute and acts as an informant for his mother (which seems to imply he's prostituting himself out in a not-so-safe part of the city).
Innis (a sister of Teagan's) is a trainee in the city guard.
Lachlan (another brother) is working as an apprentice.
Not sure if this was already known, but I've never heard of it before.
