Sweet monkey Jesus I love this genre SO MUCH. Even the 2D ones.
Jak and Daxter, Croc: Legend of Gobbus, Hercules, Rayman, Spyro, Monster Inc Scare Island, Dalmatians 102 Puppies to the Rescue, Toy Story 2 & 3, Tarzan, Buzz Lightyear, Shrek, Harry Potter 1-3.
It seems this genre was really popular for childrens movies to video game adaptions.

Crash, Gex, Ape Escape, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, I-Ninja.
This is my favorite genre by far as well, OP. I'll branch out pretty far just to get something close to that feel again. Closest I've come in years is A Hat in Time, which is pretty much Sly Cooper but with lolis. Also, Tearaway on Vita and Tearaway: Unfolded on PS4. I can't say how much I love Tearaway: Unfolded. They marketed it like it was a remake, but it's not, it's a sequel. Not that you need to play the first to get it.

For the PC? The first one was harder, had more well thought out challenges, and was a bit more "compact".
But, the second one had more exploration, I liked it the best as a child. The atmosphere and music were both fucking great, my little retard mind was delighted to explore the halls of Hogwarts, casting Alohomora on Mirrors and discovering secret passages.
It's a damn shame J.K. Rowling turned out to be such a bitch. It was always my childhood dream to develop a Harry Potter RPG where you can explore Hogwarts and learn spells. Now, I have the skills to do it but I don't fucking want anything to do with Harry Potter anymore

On this topic, a few years ago, I discovered that the first 2 Harry Potter games had small little modding communities going on, because they were made in early Unreal engine.
I remember I had the idea for that a long time ago, because I found out how easily moddable the game is. I wanted to make a proper Goblet of Fire game using Chamber of Secrets assets, but I didn't have the tools to do so back then.

Agreed OP. I love 3d platformers and such. I recently got A Hat In Time and loved it, might be right up your alley. I expected a bunch of Tumblr style shit but it was actually refreshingly just a fun game with none of that shit. You just play as a cute girl doing cute things. If it had a Las Vegas level that would have been amazing.

I wonder if the purchasable version is any different from the demo or if they just sold that and then decided they'd rather release it for free? Regardless, Zineth and Perfect Stride are fucking legendary and Arcane Kids is probably my favorite indie studio. Sonic Dreams Collection was a blast with the weird-ass almost-ARG they had in the files, and I had a good time chatting with Anons about what it could be leading up to. Also, while this isn't a platformer, I think the exploration warrants mentioning because of how similar it was to other 3D platformers of the time in that regard, with its hub-like levels full of different tasks to do. Sneaking into shops to take food, interacting with townspeople and other dogs, using your smell-o-vision to locate secrets and going into back alleys through holes in fences was all pretty satisfying stuff.

Jak II was originally supposed to be a 3D platformer like the first, and the first was just Crash Bandicoot without loading screens. But then the focus groups saw Jak II and complained it was "too kiddy," so they gave Jak guns and made the game about stealing cars, and threw on a monster form for Jak just for good measure. This is pretty much what happened to the entire industry.
>>15330509
I think platformers getting mixed up with collectathons didn't help. Too many games, big and successful ones, didn't actually focus on movement and jumping challenges as much as just walking around and picking up tokens. There's a big difference between Crash, where it's all about the obstacles, and Banjo, where the movement mechanics really aren't the focus as much as the exploration is. Mario 64 would be somewhere in the middle, where most games of that era were. But by the time Donkey Kong 64 came out, with 500 goddamn bananas in every level, and practically no actual jumping challenges in the whole game, people started criticizing it. And since platformers and collectathons were frequently seen as the same thing, people stopped making platformers as well.

The good part of any collectathon is the challenge that happens in between entering a level and picking up the things. What ruins a lot of these games is the lack of challenge, turning levels more into leisurely stroles than a series of obstacles to be overcome. I'd love to see a really hardcore collectathon. Same basic gameplay, but it kicks your ass, and makes you earn it.

Challenge applies to any genre. But I think it's important to note the difference between games where the challenge is jumping and movement, and ones where the challenge is more about combat, or ones where the challenge is more about minigames. But in the late '90s, all the 3D games that had cartoony looking characters mostly got lumped together regardless of their gameplay.
