7.00 ruined the game by replacing stat upgrades with talents. That means builds became severely limited. You used to be able to put a level-up point into your stats and raise them all if, for instance, leveling up a skill would have proven useless. Now you don't have a choice and have to put that level up point into a skill or a 'talent' which is really only useful late-game where everyone becomes an OP piece of shit. There was an update that added shrines, Which was like a mini fountain you could activate to heal yourself. There was 2 for dire and radiant. Then they made 4 gold runes appear at the start of the game, so its a lot less fighting, like them big fights you had at the start of the older dota 2 streams.
They removed Iron talon and reduced gold farming with jungling a lot more so now no one jungles, no one can jungle fast so its bad gold in general, even if you're a jungle hero. Too many heroes can roam to deny junglers and can keep their exp and gold income up because of these gold runes also, which spawn all 4 gold runes again every 5 minutes on the map. The goldrunes give everyone on your team gold also. Roaming is too useful in this game now.
Offlane cant pull lanes easily anymore and pudge can no longer hook jungle creeps to pull lanes. So to offlane you need to pick an offlane hero built for it, or a hero like Lich and Earthshaker to keep your lane stuck in place, otherwise you wont get any exp or gold since theres 2 camps, which dont even need to be stacked that can pull and kill the easy lanes creep wave. Making offlane pretty much suicide unless the enemy team is stupid and goof around and dont counter pick hard. Since I mentioned roaming, its generally 3v1 even in pub games with idiots so offlaning is just suicide and will mostly have you just hiding, unable to deny creep waves and the carry free farming. Since no one likes to support in pub games, no one is going to help offlane, So it just ends up with Easy lane being stupid easy and roamers having free shit even if they play like shit.

When they had a tournament with a QOP using a mask of madness they later nerfed it so that it silenced players when they used it. They keep dumbing down creative shit like this with each update. Iron talon was one of them because you could make some heroes like Sniper actually good at jungling.
Tinker used to fucking manta style spam with illusions in dota 1 and its not a thing now. They dont even balance this shit, they just flatout remove it and make it less fun.
And with how they made the BOTS AI smarter then even tourney players the tourney fags are now learning from machines instead, making it harder to be creative and now people only want to follow the meta.

The big fights in the beginning where fun, but we still have rune fights now. The fights are smaller, but they carry more weight. One team taking all 4 runes is like 4(40*5)gold for that one team. That's a huge networth swing. On top of that denying now grants only 25% xp or something like that to the denied enemy while giving the denying hero +25% xp. A lot of things suck about Dota, but these mechanics allow you to snowball hard and made the game a lot less forgiving.

I would prefer fighting over one rune with the team and not to rely on the exp and gold on that rune and use my laning skills to do that thanks.
Jungling was fine also, I loved to pick wraithking, jungle to level 3, get soulring and roam with him. And Jungling was a thing so that if the offlane sufferd he could still get gold and help his team later on with heroes that need items.
But with it being harder now and easy to lose it, why bother picking any hero that needs gold when you can just pick a hero like lich or earthshaker and be useful even without loot. Further lowering the choice of heroes to play because meta shit decides what you should do.
The runes and shrines were a mistake. Why should shitty roamers and players on my team be given gold also? also want to mention that the gold gained from killing a player thats killed too much is too forgiving also, this game is way too forgiving for people playing like shit.

The iron talon meta allowed some solo offlaners to recover from a bad lane and let heroes farm without buying battle fury or hand of midas. But it also allowed some players to ignore the game completely until the 20 minute mark, to their own team's detriment. The problem at the time was that it was putting all the emphasis on the roamer, actually limiting the impact the offlaner can have. The reason for the change was likely the impact it had on the game overall; roamers controlled the game for the most part, the safe lane was no longer safe. This was not a bad era of Dota at all, but Icefrog saw ways to improve it or spice it up, and frankly I'm glad he did. The shrines and runes allow for a more dynamic earlygame without disrupting the flow, and reward teams for earning map control.
Removing the talon and nerfing the jungle isn't a purely direct response to this, mind; 7.00 had them still in. But too powerful, to the point where people ignored the lane altogether. So Icefrog had two choices; keep the game as is, or change in the hope of improvement. For my part, I like the added decision making the shrines and such have to the game.

You're doing it wrong then. Especially since the last six months of patches have been about bringing back dual laning. A good lane support wins the lane, helps denies, doesn't die in what have become dogfights in lanes, and uses the space they get from winning the lane to do other objectives from stacking, to warding, to ganking mid.

A good lane support has to be as active as them - actually, they have to be way MORE active. The entire game often depends on how well they can protect their carry. And they also have to know when, or at what moments, they can afford to leave their carry alone, so they can not only maximise farm but also do roaming and jungling of their own. You are multitasking in many ways. And this is ignoring the times when the lane is hotly contested, in which case it's a constant fight. The worst you can say about lane supporting is that it's the easiest to sleep through and be bad at if the stars align, I'd say.
