What's wrong with clones though. They're far easier for the devs to create, their inclusion does not mean the exclusion of other characters, and the nuances make them a nice alternative for people who like the original characters. The only characters I can think of that are completely meaningless are dark pit and Roy before they changed him for smash 4. I think Lucina has the bare minimum amount of change to be considered worthwhile mechanically, but echo characters not being defined as full characters to appease the retards makes me think theyll do more shit like Richter who's pretty much just a different skin with different dialogue and animations. That's better than nothing dont get me wrong, but I wouldn't mind them making minor tweaks to some of the echoes also if you believe that ganon and falco were/are clones, you're a fucking idiot.

Again, inclusion of one character does not mean the exclusion of another. The only one I'm mildly pissed about is Corrin, because it was such an obvious attempt to market the new game. Chrom is fine tho, especially since they seem to have mixed up his moveset a good deal.

I can understand hating Medusa since Uprising pretty much shat on her character as best they could while making sure Hades was more likeable (which he was), but I would at least like to see Medusa in Ultimate as an alternate costume for Palutena (as long as she's not voiced by the same actress from Uprising). Anyway I would gladly pick Hades or Viridi over Medusa at this point, but I'm satisfied with Dark Pit being the villain rep for now, even if he is a shitty echo.

It depends how you define a clone. If you only look at how their moves look, then sure, they're clones. But if you judge them by function, they're vastly different. Ganon and Falcon are obvious, since Falcon is the fastest character in melee, while ganon is one of the slowest. Falco and Fox have different movement speeds and jump heights, different uses for lasers (falco can apply pressure and stuff approaches, fox can apply rapid pressure and force approaches), different combo games with Falco being based more around the pillar setup of shine -> bair and so on so forth. Sure their animations are pretty much the same, but they play really differently, which more than makes up for it. I get that people want ganon to have more unique moves, and I'm not mad about the sword smashes hes getting, but to me a reference has always been far less important to me than the feel of a character. I'm glad echo characters are a thing now because it allows us to have interesting variations like Chrom or Dark Samus without autists getting too upset

Eh, fair enough. I'm just saying that, other than having the same or similar animations, they're as different as any two random characters. To me a true clone character is somebody like dark pit, whose function is so similar to pit that they're both grouped together as one character for tier lists. Lucina is another I'd accept as a clone, even though her framedata makes me different enough to be placed separately on tier lists, and is noticably different to anybody who plays marth. Regardless, I'll agree that it's usually better to see something completely fresh than it is to see an iteration. But I believe Sakurai once said that it takes them as much time to make 4 or 5 clones as it does to make a single unique character. So I think it usually works out in terms of delivered content

The fact that they revealed 5 characters in the first direct since the reveal in which they said "do my expect too much more" makes me think the samurai was just tempering expectations so they could be exceeded. My guess is somewhere between 4-6 fully original characters and a good handful of new echoes. That would make for 73-75 characters in the base game not including echoes. It's a hefty ask sure, but they really seem to be going the extra mile this time

It's called Stunt Race FX, and to be honest I don't picture him with a very complicated moveset. He would mostly be a speedy super heavyweight brawler.

I picture him something like the Wheel Robot transformation from Kirby Planet Robobot with a few more moves on top of that. But the gist of it is like this:

>Give him an explosion move as his down+B similar to what happens in the game when you crash into a wall at high speed (his polygons fly everywhere and then reassemble, except for his eyes which stay in place as he rebuilds himself.) This explosion is incredibly deadly but it damages him in the process.

>Nitro boost as his side B, basically a super high speed dash attack with hyper armor that's active as long as you hold the button.

Only thing I'm not sure of is his Final Smash, but I would assume it'd involve the rest of the cars smashing into opponents, followed by them getting sideswiped by TRAILER (the huge 18 wheeler that appears in the bonus stage).

The fortuitous thing about adding Touhou to the game is that in spite of primarily being a scrolling shooter, Touhou has a bunch of fighting games too. So Reimu already has a pile of moves to pick from. One of the fighting games actually had a deck-building system where you could customize each character's moves from a list exclusive to them. Reimu's got enough moves that she could have been in Sm4sh and had a completely different attack for each custom move, like Palutena.

Witch time is already gone. Relegated to a final smash. As soon as her dumbass ladder combos are removed, she'll be far from top tier. I've never been too upset about her in smash 4, but she was the final nail in the coffin for my decision to completely disregard smash 4 competitive.
