Guide to a happy Share Thread

Leechers

1. Before requesting, search online, even use distributed search engines e.g.InfraSearch,Opencola,YaCy,FAROO. See below for famous links.

2. Look first in the archives and in volafile.

3. Be as specific as possible. If you have the cover art of the file you want, post it in both the share thread and in vola room.

4. Due to asshats in the thread, links to files will be purposely misleading (have spaces, lines, keys&passwords split in the post),including torrent hashes.

If you see something like: c12fe1c06bba254a9dc9f519b335aa7c1367a88a |or| c12-fe1c-06bba25-4a9dc9f519-b335aa7c1-367a88a,it's a magnet link.

If your bittorrent is shit, prepend magnet:?xt=urn:btih:, to create magnet:?xt=urn:btih:c12fe1c06bba254a9dc9f519b335aa7c1367a88a&dn=youDIMWITTEDmother.fucker.tar

a. Find and Replace (sed/tr/awk) is your friend

Uploaders

1. When in doubt;upload, ask questions later.

2. Upload to many alternative sources (5+) and keep a local copy if space permits.

3. Use a URL shorterner (spaced or split) and/or paste relinks (e.g zerobin.net) on file links to confuse bots.

4. Encrypt your uploads now with a password, key, or generator.Rename the files something random, even their checksums.Maybe even pad files to the nearest GB or so,to confuse bots.

5. If your connection is stable,it is extremely advisable to self host. Using anonymity tools like Freenet,I2P,Gnunet,distributed NNTP or MixMinion/Mixmaster.

Volafile

volafile.org/r/f8vk0tec (new room, so behave)

1. Before uploading a batch of miscellaneous files, like images and music,be sure they are unique enough to stand on their own, and that you ask for the majority's the consensus whether to upload the files individually.

2. Vola room owner edit- Upload 5 files and then zip the rest if the dump is larger then 6-7 files. Music Albums exceeding 5 files are to be zipped. When uploading .torrent, either add them to the a zip of the game or just don’t upload those misc files.Properly label files so that they can be identified without asking someone else. For lewd stuff with filenames like RJ74765 either add a .txt linking to the contents on a website or just add the title to the .txt e.g "BIG BOOTY WOMEN SIT ON SHOTA FACE (RJ34734)".

3. You can filter files by file type (.txt, .rar, etc) or search the file list with the bar hidden by the filter files button.

a. When in doubt, archive as a single [or split if too large],then upload.

I know I've asked this before on an earlier thread, but, does anyone have or know where I can get roms for teknoparrot?

I swear I can't find outrun 2 or the Intial d games besides 6AA for the life of me.

026c09  No.15298786

the romsites who took their roms sites down had one thing in common, i just notic it. They all had dreamcast games. I thought it was weird to see nicoblog or cdromance doing well, while the other romsites went into totall shut down mode. Than i rememberd a news about sega

http://gaming.ebaumsworld.com/articles/sega-is-making-a-new-console-and-it-might-be-dreamcast-2/85636676/

i guess they are cleaning up before releasing dreamcast 2, huh?

so, my question now, any place out there still having some DC roms?

148a17  No.15300493

>>15300317

>can you get banned from google play store for having pirated apk

You probably won't.

Simply knowing that something wasn't installed from the play store doesn't mean it wasn't acquired legally through another store or the developers themselves (unless they are signed); and being unsigned doesn't mean it anything since software can be compiled from source. Aside from that, apps can be obfuscated to avoid recognition anyways. Even if they recognize a pirate app store, there'd also be the possibility of malware installing it to get them banned. There are also false-positives.

There's little point in bothering since pirates being banned only means they have to get everything elsewhere; e.g. by pirating or other markets.

The vast majority of the community that was once /v/ola left, but it was left for dead.

There was no "take over".

It's just one of the people who decided not to leave (Me) clinging to the memory of a better time.

It's nowhere near what it once was.

But still, it's better than a vola room that has on average 0-2 files.

Don't let personal grudges get in the way of people sharing vidya with eachother.

I thought repacks were supposed to use LESS space, not MORE. What the hell is going on?

48acfb  No.15310054

>>15310017

Repacks use LESS space when they're not installed. The installation takes so long and uses so much ram because it's so compressed. 70GB is how much space the game probably takes up normally after install; fitgirl repacks are particularly impressive as far as compression goes, evidenced by your 70GB game only taking up 25GB before install. It's working just as intended.

As a tip, if you download any of their dreamcast stuff keep in mind that a lot of it is already available in other collections online. The most noteworthy non custom stuff I can think of off the top of my head are the games they had to remove/downgrade stuff on the disk to fit onto a 700mb cdr, same thing but for 800mb, and the sdiso games (though I'm not really sure how much of that is of worth and if they changed really anything at all to the files.) Other than that good luck. Please upload your collection if you get the chance. Oh and one last thing that might interest you. Look up the "PSO DC Ives Pack 2.0" It's an insane mod for PSO v2 that actually runs better compared to the original gdi release which is real cool.

GUIDE TO MASS DOWNLOAD THINGS FROM NOT ISOZONE BELOW

>>15321169

I'm the nigger that grabbed everything from the homebrew games section here >>15317159 . Here's how I did it. First I downloaded Jdownloader 2. Then I changed the setting as to make it so it put the files in a new folder and it extracted the contents of said download into that folder followed by deleting said archive (this isn't necessary, I just did it for personal reasons.). Then I abused the living hell out of the link grabber feature (if you don't know what that is, it auto grabs the link in your clipboard and shoves it in the ready to download section of the program called "My.JDownloader") in these steps. First pull up the list of games/programs/tools you want to download, then middle click on 4-9 games/programs/etc to put them into new tabs, after this make sure to click the load link button on the page (javascript is required for this), wait for a second for said link to actually load, then click on said link and go to the next tab to do everything I just said over again. Then after all of those pages load, go to the first page you loaded and copy the link into your clipboard, do that for every page. This will prepare a list for jdownloader to download all at once. This is a fuck ton easier compared to doing it manually so I really hope this is helpful. One tip I'd like to add is that a lot of the zip files are named in a way that makes them hard to search for in a mass download like this. You can change the name of the file/folder before you start the download in jdownloader but not after so keep that in mind.

You're not. Be careful not to use vapor too much, you could ruin the box. Another option is fridge or even freezer, cooled stickers are easier to get rid of. If you are interchanging both they should get peeled off after a while. Glad to be of help I guess?

In my understanding heat can make those patches stick like hell but it's worth a try. Depends on the material they're on I guess.

Had good experience with vaporising and with dry cold (refrigerator) myself. Both methods seem to reduce the affinity of glue components to adhere to the surface.

/tech/ here. I don't play much vidya but I'm sad so many archives are closing. If there's interest I can make a Retroshare guide. I don't think people would want to scroll through public key spam in the regular share thread so I think a separate thread would be justified.

For those who don't know, Retroshare is a friend-to-friend (as opposed to Bittorrent/IPFS peer-to-peer) distributed sharing platform. You need to exchange account keys with others to friend them. It has built in public/private messaging (think IRC), forum, email-like-messaging, file sharing/searching (think torrent index), and subscription channels (think RSS). All of this is decentralized and with a single click will run over tor. That's right, it does all the hard work for you and generates you your own onion address. You have the option of creating long standing identities or temporary anonymous identities or both. There are multiple options for file sharing including having all your friend's shared files listed in one browsable/searchable list. They're shared in a swarm like bittorrent so you can download and share very easily. New files/folders can be added/removed very easily.

Because of the nice GUI it's much more user friendly than IPFS and it's all routed through tor for privacy.

Friend to friend sounds nice, but we're all anonymous. Would we be able to set up a network without compromising ourselves? Also, is there a tag search method or do you need to match the actual string?

5f6d3a  No.15342696

>>15342526

>we're all anonymous

>Would we be able to set up a network without compromising ourselves?

Basically first everyone generates a random hash (public key) which you share in threads. After both parties add each others keys they're friends. Then you generate a new random hash to talk to each other. It's no less compromising then the post IDs that are used here. They can be regenerated at any time. You can even have control of multiple identities at the same time. Everyone's IP address will be hidden over tor.

>is there a tag search method or do you need to match the actual string?

Right now you can search by filename, path, extension, hash, date, and size. The search operators are contains, contains all, and is, along with a case insensitive option. A workaround I thought of to include tags is to make an empty text file with the file name as the tags with the .tag file extension. The tags can be assumed relevant for that directory and any subdirectory.

Nice targeted 4s, but

> However, at this point the trust model employed from RetroShare starts to break down: how are you supposed to trust someone else who, as far as you are concerned, exists solely on the Internet? After all, it wouldn’t be too difficult to engage in social engineering to infiltrate a “secure” F2F network. Unless you know and trust someone in real life, there’s no way to vouch for the person on the other end of the RetroShare connection. The only way RetroShare will work as well as BitTorrent is when the circle of “friends” gets very wide indeed, and the wider this circle of trust gets, the more realistic the threat of infiltration becomes.

We wouldn't be using it for it's friend-to-friend model. As I just explained we would still be anonymous. We don't need to worry about infiltrators since everyone is protected by tor. All communication and file transferring is anonymously encrypted. The more people the merrier. I figured Retroshare gives us a distributed way of keeping track of everyone's files that can't be taken down. Distributed and decentralized file indexes are needed now more then ever.

>>15342879

I vaguely remember that. I think the reason they started that was to share files amongst themselves though. Retroshare also uses GPG but we could have people post IPFS hashes of their keys instead of spamming the thread with huge text blocks. Then we could keep a master list of all the hashes. It should be easy to script a bulk import of them, though that shouldn't be necessary. Even if a random subset are imported the file search works on friends, their friends, and so on up to 7 hops.

I already explained that. We're not using it to rely on its friend-to-friend model. If you read the rest of the caveat yourself you would know that the way he was caught and sentenced was because he added an anti-piracy plant which logged his IP. That is impossible with tor. It's literately one button to have it set up tor for you. Retroshare is anonymous and impossible to shut down.

>Ok, opinion discarded

Why is that? You could use pastebin if you want. I'm not saying it must be IPFS hashes, just a link to the larger text. Would you really rather have a thread full of long public keys?

This anon is right, we should be using this in addition to our existing torrents and other backup websites that we are currently scanning since most anons will never have a 100% collection of every rom (especially disk based consoles since those collections require a shitload of giganiggabytes).

With software like retroshare we could share our collections with each other (cross-breeding our collections if you will) and make chatrooms especially for requests.

If you mount the filesystem, any program has access to it like a local file or folder. You can use whatever you want to browse it. If you want a desktop GUI you could just open the folder in windows explorer.

If someone posted an ipfs link here, you could literally just open it like a local folder and use whatever program you normally use for whatever files are in it. Like if you double clicked an mp4 it would just open in your local media player. You don't have to copy anything, the OS can just use it directly, whether it's local or not.

This is cut from the video in that thread.

depends the thread model. Ignore the other TOR user that thinks retroshare should be attempted.

TOR uses HTTTLS over onion routing, it's still TCP, and not NAT punching UDP like BitTorrent.

Best analogy I can come up with: TOR is like little "dunghill" ants that send bigger and bigger messages to other little ant hills until the file gets to you.

If your threat is FBI&NSA, well they can see a lot of ants taking a lot of big messages for a long time until they are done.

In BitTorrents, it's more like flies to honey, someone pasted huge magnet link that contains a large bucket of honey, and they replicate the honey to their hives.

Everyone can see where, when, and how the flies shared the honey around and replicated, but it ensure everyone can get all parts of the honey, even if some flies and hives die in the process.

With Retroshare you are cryptographically signing your deed, it's like a spider with it's unique web saying to everyone that they have shared said messages with said other unique spiders.

It means, that even if you setup anonymously a seedbox, let it die, and make another to bittorent; Retroshare places a giant stamp that you, out everyone in the spider groups, did share this unique file with your "friends."

It means, retroshare is many times worse than just hosting an .onion DL site and letting people download, like that anon that we have here hosting ROMs.

And his site hasn't been taken down, because TOR is that difficult to identify services' locations for.

I'm not sure which GUI program you're talking about.

When you mount a filesystem, instead of being forced to use a browser or a specific GUI client, you just use the files on IPFS as if they were on a local disk, with whatever programs you want.

>I hope you realize you still have to download the mounted files before you can use them.

I'm not sure what you mean. With Ipfs, if you request a hash you don't have locally, it gets the data from other peers. Even if it's not cached locally, streaming the data should be as fast as the swarms combined strength. The closest example I can think of is how some bittorrent clients let you stream videos, imagine that but for any kind of file.

>someone posts a hash to a game

>open D:\ipfs\Qmdsahfuhguihgidshgiuashd in explorer

I'm saying at that point you would only go into the folder if you already knew its contents which you would get by browsing it through a browser or GUI interface. You're right that you can stream video and audio but that's no different then how people stream videos or audio right now. Programs aren't sequential so you'd need to download the whole thing for it to work right. The only reason streaming works in IPFS right now is because programs use HTTP bridge links. Regular HTTP downloads files sequentially. When mounting files IPFS fetches content from random pieces from the swarm like bittorrent.

>I meant that mounting it actually fetches the requested content instead of just resolving it if you use Windows Explorer or a Linux GUI file manager.

I'm not sure what you mean, as far as I'm aware, a filesystem has to do both and does them separately. Resolving a path means turning it into something like an inode, and fetching means taking the inode and asking for the binary data.

If you're just browsing directories you only need to fetch metadata (name, size, etc.), when you're reading a file you request the binary data.

They're different operations.

>I'm saying at that point you would only go into the folder if you already knew its contents which you would get by browsing it through a browser or GUI interface.

That doesn't make sense to me. I can only reference the previous example, if someone posts a hash, you just navigate to it, the filesystem will resolve that to a folder, and if you open a file inside, it will then request the binary data. You don't need to have data until it's requested. That's the purpose.

>Programs aren't sequential so you'd need to download the whole thing for it to work right.

Programs shouldn't typically be large. If you look at the contents of most games, the exes are only a few megabytes. It's program assets that are large, and nothing restricts them from being streamed on demand if the resolver can do that.

Some games already do this with their own implimentations, where they let you play a game before it's 100% downloaded, because you don't need the last level downloaded to start the game. You just need the engine (with it's separate dependencies), and the assets required for the first map or whatever. You can then download the rest in the background or on demand or some combination. In the case of using IPFS it more than likely would be on demand unless the program specifically tried to load everything up front for whatever reason.

>The only reason streaming works in IPFS right now is because programs use HTTP bridge links.

That doesn't make sense. IPFS uses its own thing called "bitswap" to transfer data, not HTTP. I don't know as much about that as I do with bittorrent but I'm pretty sure it's just a block streaming protocol.

You may be confusing IPFS with the IPFS gateway, which is just a component of ipfs. It translates IPFS requests to HTTP requests. "mount" does the same thing but it's mapping operating system requests to IPFS requests. HTTP shouldn't be involved. When you open a file it probably opens a bitswap stream, or maybe they abstract that in the resolver. I'm not sure, but it shouldn't matter where it does it, as long as it can return bytes when requested. The origin isn't important, because the OS doesn't care. Probably the same way RAID and ZFS work with multiple types of devices.

>When mounting files IPFS fetches content from random pieces from the swarm like bittorrent.

I think what you mean is that files can be transferred out of order. Nothing forces them to be random. This is true even for bittorrent. While you can fetch blocks out of order, nothing prevents you from requesting them sequentially. This is actually how bittorrent clients handle it, they just requests "pieces" in file relevant order. They come out of order by default for multiple reasons. For bittorrent I think it's usually based around chunk rarity, you download the rarest chunks first, in case the peer hosting them goes offline before the transfer would sequentially get to that chunk.

Again though, I could be wrong on all this. I'm only going off my own experience and we're talking about some new+complex shit. I'm real interested in hearing someone else talk about it if they're more familiar. Maybe we should move this to the /tech/ thread.

A forwarding service is cheaper than a proxy service but it's less headache if you're new these types of services. I use WhiteRabbitExpress for proxy and BiginJap and Japamart for forwarding. With forwarding, you're buying and shipping the merch to them so they can send it to you. A proxy service buys and sends it to you through them. For this reason, a proxy is more expensive.

The best time to send a request on a forwarding site is right after the store you bought your stuff from ships the product. That way you know exactly what's going to ship. Sites like Japamart prefers that you make request based on what's shipped in that package and not everything you're shipping in total.

Are you concerned about your free pro account access or something? What is with your need for control over the vola room?

I've stated several times that I didn't care what vola room is in the OP. I've even attempted to give the one I have control of away to anons so I didn't have to manage it anymore. I've never banned anyone in all these months and I've never enforced any rules. I didn't even write the rules for the vola in the OP. I only started it because the old one was compromised and we needed a new one at the time. I'm happy I wasn't around to transfer control to you now because your actions are starting to worry me. Not everyone in these threads act that way. I see quite a lot of straight links or references to files, obviously there is the vola as well which is straightforward.

Obfuscating the links, especially in an easy to parse fashion, does nothing other than waste human time. In my observation at least.

Please don't be mean. /v/ is not as technology focused as some of the other boards, and has a lower common age. It may be silly, but they are trying their best. In time they may learn, but they're not really harming anyone now. If you really wanted something shared, it would take at most 2 minutes to figure out how to get it.

Nothing disrupts others from sharing their own secure/private references, for those in the know.

If you want to post Freenet hashes, you can, and there's enough knowledge in the pastebin for someone to figure out what it is, and how to resolve it.

0744a2  No.15391633

sorry dude, but this thread is pure cringe. you got people acting like they're sharing nuclear warhead codes or something when in reality it's literal PirateBay magnet links. the funny thing is, this doesn't help "protect" you in any way, shape or form since if anyone cared for these torrents there would already be a copyright troll collecting IP's in the swarm. being edgy sekrit club wouldn't stop this at all.

people don't act this autistic on sites like BTN and PTP where it's almost a requirement to be a sperg to even join.

fd86b6  No.15391688

>>15391633

>you got people acting like they're sharing nuclear warhead codes

I have to admit it's funny to watch, especially as it evolves to become more cryptic and arbitrary over time. But what I said before is still the truth. What you said is something they may learn themselves in time, one way or another, if it's important to them or not.

I don't see any reason to be upset about it now. When you're dealing with decentralization, you have to have a bridge between groups, that you may otherwise not normally engage with.

I personally am not a fan of private trackers because of how fragile it seems. If the index goes down, most of the exclusive torrents typically go with it. But some people require that level of privacy in some context I guess.

I may not agree with these people, but at some point I need to exchange data with them. Digital trade, requires patience.
