Which you can do on top of the environmental shit in World. Not only that, but traps can be set MUCH faster than in prior titles, there's no need to carry five books of combination to make the combinations succeed, and you can easily teleport back to base camp to restock on them fully as much as you want.

The attack animations are faster in the old game there but the moves cover a shorter distance And the hit boxes are more forgiving. If the world player had dodged so close like the player in MH3U he would have gotten hit. The Monsters In World have larger AOE's and cover more distance so they're going to seem slower. The attacks are wider due to the larger map sizes. If you try to take on a World monster like the MH3U player your going to get shat on. Also in MH3U you have a dash, world has none.

So I'm looking for some advice. I've only played 4U, and it's fun, but it doesn't quite scratch the itch I've got, and I've not touched it for a while. The gathering/delivery quests, the climbing/jumping mechanics, the drop rates on high-level mats - they're all needlessly frustrating. I just want to do three things: hunt monsters, craft shit, and play dress-up. God Eater was pretty decent at that, if you want an idea. It's got a bunch of confusing mechanics too but at least you can ignore them if you're halfway competent.

Anyway I'm looking for something on a handheld. 3DS is ideal cause that's what I've got, but if you know something good on Vita let me know anyway. If nothing else, I'd like to know if I'm better switching to 3U, Gen, or XX or sticking with 4U.

You want an anime action game with dress-up, not a hunting game, real advice time you're asking people talking about burger restaurants where to get the best ice cream, because you just came from getting dinner at a fucking dairyqueens. Try the phantasy star online / universe games on PSP or OG DS, I think you'll like them a lot more.

Going back to 3u would probably frustrate you more, because 3u is a slower game than 4u. Monster kill time in 4u went down significantly compared to 3u, they got a boost to aggression and speed to offset the decrease in durability. There aren't any ledges in 3u, nearly every area is a wide, flat arena. That means there's less janky ledge fuckery on both the monster side and you being unable to use ledges to your advantage. 3u is also solo only on 3ds, which doesn't sound like it'll bother you, and it's more solo-friendly than 4u, which is the hardest MH if you don't count frontier's ridiculous bullshit, but it is 3000% more of a timesink than god eater. 3 minute hunt times don't happen in any monster hunter game except for world.

You might also try freedom wars, I've heard that's a wannabe hunter anime action type game. Haven't tried it myself.

For me the speed of the game made up for a lot of its faults, whereas with monhun it's the opposite. Like, making all of the weapons and clothing possible isn't an unfeasible goal in that game. Gathering and delivery quests stop being a thing pretty quickly in both 3U and 4U, but XX is overflowing with them due to having four villages worth of them. Climbing/jumping stays in XX, so if you hate that, go back to 3U - climbing still exists but isn't a major part of combat. Drop rates are going to be about the same though.

All weapon speed runs averages are pretty close in XX compared to 4U where IG and GS were at the top with the bottom having a gap of 2 and half hour of total kill time because the monsters had pathetically small HP pools and really low stagger threshold meaning every other hit was either a stagger or a full trip from GS.

MHW is a fantastic entry point for new people because all the other games are better so you will never be disappointed no matter what entry you play next

I have nothing against those who play world. I'm interested in the technology and systems of world. However, mantles, free potions, and other general casualizations seem to turn me off in general. Also Sony cancelling Omega Labrynth Z in west and Denuvo but a rant for another thread.

I started in Tri but I always wanted to play the original on PS2. I just never had a PS2 while in school nor PSP to play Freedom/FU. I watched a few videos of MonHun World and I'm not seeing intelligent designs in the monsters or levels. It seems like the game suffers from maps being too big and the devs haven't quite adapted the monsters to work in loadless hunting grounds like I hoped. They seem to follow the logic of going from zone to zone but forgot loading screens don't exist.

I'm thinking a Switch/portable version of MonHun World's tech to refine the systems they have with a few older rules of the old games like no grappling hook and few environmental hazards that affect monsters would be a step in the right direction. I would be okay with healing while moving if it means taking a hit/dodging drops your using potion where you can stand still/crouch and chug the whole pot at once but lock into not moving or move while chugging to slowly restore health at the risk of dropping the pot. You have to stand still eating steaks, sushifish, and bitterbugs. And chewing herbs, rations, and max/ancient potions take about 5 seconds before swallow but you can move/dash/climb/swim freely while eating but can't attack or eat other items in that time less you spit out what you're chewing.

Try the technology again with smaller hunting grounds and more intelligent design with online rules for both short and long play sessions. Also have monsters take advantage of the environment as much as hunters. I like the idea of Rathalos hauling you into the air and dropping you in a lava plume or briar bush.

The flies were a lazy solution to an otherwise complicated but possibly fun mechanic if done right. A stylized painted art style would be ideal for this to have cleaner textures and brighter colors to see. Tracking can be fun if monsters actually leave behind droppings, foot prints, visceral from fresh feeds, and territory markings. Things you actually NEED to use to track monsters by hand. And if you tag them the paint leaves a trail as well as track them on your map. So if paint runs out you can follow the paintball trail to get an idea where they might be.

Also still be okay with harvesting identifiable resources as you go. If you can identify the herbs and mushrooms you need you should be able to harvest bushels (you will still be on all fours to dig them up). The RNG of these items are where they spawn, not if you collect them from the same spot. Exception is fishing and mining. Though fishing is much more flexible where you can fish and you should be able to "lure" the fish you want manually but now always requires bait. No no more bare hook fishing.

I also just want to emphasize. The propositions I keep proposing are made with one simple idea: to fill in the blank spaces between the hunting areas in Forest and Hills. This is the benchmark I set all of my propositions for MonHunV.

Lack of loading screens means more paths you have to travel. Spread resources through the paths, but make them identifiable enough hunters can recognize what they need on a whim. Also make new shortcuts with interactive/destructible environments both monsters and hunters can use to trap or break pursuit at risk of opening/closing shortcut. No loading zones? No problem with hiding spots and smoke bombs to mask your presence and scent and the new ability to use items while crouching to stay hidden. Hiding spots also add more tactical options.

What about places too big or long to be paths? Make paths themselves minor hunting zones monsters can barricade in a pinch. Also any path area that would be too big to fit in the old map will become a new zone. So for veterans it will be like exploring that mysterious place you never could when you were kids.

For a MonHunV demo I say make the demo a series of chain quests. First quest is gathering to learn the hunting ground. Second Quest slaying a new bird wyvern monster, a kicking kiwi, to learn how to use it's shortcuts and track droppings and footprints. Third quest is to capture a classic Rathian as a test to see how well you learned the new mechanics of the game. Many demo players won't succeed, but they can restart later individual contracts after clearing the previous ones.

Also another note about chain quests: whether success or failure the hunting ground resets between quests, but you can eat "canteen delivery" between hunts and you can restock items. But chain quests stack rewards the more you complete in succession. You won't collect until the chain is done.

Also when a quest fails and if you're not carted, you have 60 seconds to harvest resources before leaving the hunting ground. If you fail a quest mid chain all quest fees you put up for uncompleted quests are forfeit, but you keep completed quest rewards without chain bonus. Abandoning quests now forfeits quest fees.
