Ever since I got the Dolphin emulator working I haven't touched my softmodded Wii. Most of the virtual console games on it don't work unless you've got a classic controller but you don't need a NGC controller to use nintendont.

I can't think of anything the Wii does well. At least it's easy to softmod and has a USB port on it.

I couldn't figure out retroarch and setting it to output "default" and setting your system to 480i resulted in 480i not 240p so I went back to normal stand alone emulators and they work a lot better. Use Nintendont for GC back up loading, USB Loader GX for wii, play some of the japanese wii games like zangeki no reignleiv, play muscle march, and play rodea the sky soldier.

I already have hacked it. My main reason for making this thread is that I was curious if N64 emulation works better on a Wii than on a PC and what other uses it could have.

Fine, to answer your question: Not really. N64 emulators on the Wii are iffy. Wii64 blows, Not64 blows. Hell, Nintendo had to do some weird hacks with the Virtual Console N64 games just to get them to run at an acceptable quality on the Wii. You can inject ROMs into N64 VC games and usually they'll work but you don't get save states or other features like emulators have.

I'm not sure how far it's progressed, but last time I tried using Wii64 to play Banjo Kazooie, it still had plenty of graphical bugs. Of course, I'd have to double check where my emulator stands version wise compared to present. There's also WAD injection from what I remember, in that apparently some VC N64 wads are receptive to having their game data replaced with that of N64 games that didn't see rerelease, but I haven't fiddled with that too much.

No, the Wii can't handle PS1 emulation very well above the standard minimum resolution which is like 240p the issue is, nearly all PS1 emulators for the wii use the Wii's Resolution for the emulator's render target which makes the wii shit itself.

Actually nevermind cfg usb loader used to have way more features than usb loader gx but it seems like that changed.

In the past usb loader gx was missing a gorillion features that one would use like ntfs support while cfg usb loader had them, but it seems like usb loader gx is better now.

I have a question. I haven't softmodded my wii yet, but have planned to do so for a while. I have a chinese knock-off Classic controller, which works fine except for the fact that one of the analog sticks is really messed up. Can I disable that analog stick or something?

That's the main entrypoint to set up the rest but on top of that you want Homebrew Channel, USB Loader GX and Nintendont.

Try Not64.

Apart from that, just use a forwarder dol for USBLoader GX with integrated nintendont and put it into your Priiloader and voilà, you boot into unlimited games.

Famicon emulation works fine enough as usual, and with a classic controller, it's probably the most authentic experience you can get apart from an original SNES.

Recommended utility: Priiloader, BootMii, HomebrewBrowser, AnyTitleDeleter, WiiXplorer (for on Wii file modding and/or FTP Server), WiiBrowser (sucks though) and a savegame/memcard manager of your choice.

Also, when downloading ISOs you come across .wia file more often than not as they are oftentimes >50% compressed. Use a converter tool to convert it into a regular .iso that the Loader can use.

Don't forget to register your console with the Wiimfi (private) server project. USBLoader should use that server instead of the defunct original automatically, but you might read into that some more.

Even if you've never softmodded a Wii before it would take 2-3 hours at most(including backing up the NAND memory) to get everything setup by following youtube tutorials, all it takes is an SD card.

Any good guides on installing USB Loader? Do you need an internet connection? Tried following the readme directions but whenever I would launch it it said 221 and 249 have no custom ios. Ive removed all the files in order to retry again later.

All you need an internet connection for is downloading the cover art for the Wii and NGC game launchers.

I probably had the same issue as you I remember having to find a specific ios.wad file using some tool that would download it from Nintendo's servers and put it on the SD card since I wasn't able to connect to the internet. I did it years ago so I don't remember all the details, looking back I should have just connected it to the internet to save myself a lot of hassle.

You need system files in .wad format. They're basically just copies of the native system software that has been modified to load from usb and add some extra features. Should have been one of the first things the guide had you do after softmodding it. The numbers refer to the slots they're in: 221, 222, 249, 250 etc. refer to slots. Native Wii ios files go from 1-56 or so.
