Private servers were another glorious playground for hacking, since they lack several server-side checks and by design have the client-side anticheat stripped out.

Oh I know, I used to run one of the biggest servers way back when. The sort of cheats I mean are stuff I made myself.
For example I used a headless client to send a complete quest packet while teleporting all over the map dropping the quest item everywhere to mess with people.
Also made a bot that will follow other players around the map, was fun running 5 or so of them at once each following each-other and another player, freaks people out.
Made another one that Google translates messages live. Fun stuff, really.

Using a packet editor injected into the client itself, but that's only if you intend to do stuff on a running client.
A headless client just speaks the MapleStory protocol and can connect to the server to send arbitrary packets. The benefit here is you can program it without limits. The drawback is you literally have to program everything, including boring stuff like logging into the server and determining if you've been disconnected and such. Look at MapleLib for more detailed info on the protocol's "encryption."

Do I have to roll for perfect starting stats? Do jobs require any stats? Do these stats get reset after I change my job? My biggest problem with trying to replay maplestory was having to painfully grind the first few levels in maple island just because I couldn't put points into strength. I'm asking because I can't find anything about this in the thread.

As soon as you make your character, all stats are brought down to the minimum of 4 and you get refunded the AP for them. You don't get a reset when you reach the first job; you'll just have to slog through maple island. Just get the relaxer from Popo and get 150 mesos to leave for Victoria, where they x5 exp rate kicks in.

Also the quest with 10 red snail shells, 10 spores, and 10 something else in maple island gives 100 pots. Its easy to pass up but I suggest to do it even if you need to go back a few maps. I believe Mai gives it. After Maple Island pick up a quest for job advancement from a guy in Lith, should net you a free level before advancing (unless you care about having a perfect Mp/hp build). Once you get the first job, instructor offers you a quest line that rewards pots as well. Should get you to level 15. After that either grind to 20 or pick up quests in Nautilus/henesys for pigs. Henesy hunting ground 2 has some beefy mob spawns. After 20 go to Ant tunnel and pick up the Kill 99 quests for green mush/horny mush along with kill 100 green quest in Ellinia. Zombie mushrooms and evil eyes require lvl 22/25 to be picked up. Keep 100 zombie mush charms for hospital quest in Kerning (lvl 25 req) and 50 evil eye tails for Strange Dish 1 in Nautilus cafeteria. Go to wild boar land and get 80 boar teeth while collecting mirror shards for hospital girl. Turn in hospital and then turn in Jane and Wild Boar in Lith. Go Kill a Mano and get his shell. Go to henesys park and start the questline from Pia. These should all get you to around level 28-29 and you can grind out the last level or 2 to 30.
Optional quests around 15-20 is NLC quiz, taking subway costs 5k both ways and takes some time though. Shumis coin at 20 in Kerning if you can do it fast (JQ) and Camillas Gem in henesys.
Another tip is buying a few town specific return scrolls in potion vendors. It saves a bunch of walking time and costs half the taxi fair.

There was something charming to all of those 2000's anime games. LaTale, Ragnarok, MapleStory, Mabinogi, and all of that. I only really ever settled down to play MapleStory but I tried Mabi for a very short amount of time. A lot of the game is just repeating the same tasks over and over to level up the associated skills. I don't know how it is for higher levels, but going primary stat only and using maple weapons (which don't have a secondary stat requirements) is the general go-to for private servers. And if you end up needing secondary stats you can always put points in them later.

The problem with private servers and ms private servers in particular from odin to sakura ms is that they don't stick around for long. The only ps servers that stick around for a long time are the RO servers and that's because it was that way from the start, RO is synonymous with private servers and was probably the only game where the private servers were larger and more viable than the main. Now you're shilling this server that is new and untested, how can you say it is promising in the long run?

Final attack has a lot of technical details into it, but it becomes useless when you start using skills from 3rd or 4th job that don't work with it. So if you're aiming for the long run, it's probably better to invest your points elsewhere.
Whether or not final attack is even a good thing at lower levels depends on how you use it, what you're grinding on, etc.
An example of final attack being good is when you're spamming the warrior's power strike; as it is a free extra hit that is slightly faster.
An example of the opposite is a warrior spamming slash blast; as although it's a free attack which can hit multiple enemies, the damage you deal is actually divided across multiple enemies; giving you lower deeps compared to just spamming slash blast.
You could put points in it because it looks cool and want to nostalgia over it, but if you're minmaxing for the long run its probably best ignored. The biggest downside of FA is that it roots you in place which for warriors means extra time getting knocked back or swinging on a mob thats already been killed. Its better to get a useless 1st job skill

That post was about bishops' Mystic Door, which lets you go to and from a map to where a town scroll would take you. You can take it back and forth as many times as you like while the door is up. Sounds like they'd get a high level bishop to cast door where a lower level player isn't meant to be, then take the door there.

Eh, I went through this same cycle with FFXIV. Just talk in your guild chat only and don't report each other and you'll be perfectly fine, or so I think. Not sure if a private server can spy on private messages. Regardless you could fix this just by getting an IRC room or something.
