Frostpunk is not a real city-builder. It has no sandbox mode. It's just three puzzle scenarios. I knew city-builders, I worked with city-builders, city-builders were friends of mine, and you, Frostpunk, are no city-builder.
Dungeons 3 is slow-moving and overencumbered with plot. It does have the ability to move back and forth between a tiny, underfeatured base-building game and Real-Time Strategy forays against the enemy, which is entertaining until it becomes a tedious grind, or until the voice actors start chewing the scenery.
Urban Empire might have a real city-builder in it somewhere, but it's not fun to play and I'm not going to dig through all that manure in the hope of finding a pony. It is a poor democracy simulator, but simulating local elections is its major feature. It was apparently designed by ultrapoz lefties.
Cities: Skylines is a true city-builder. It is a tiny bit bland; there is no way to fight a war.
The Anno games are true city-builders, and they sometimes have combat. I am jonesing for Anno 1800.
Not every true city-builder is entertaining. Surviving Mars is tedious, but it is a true city-builder.

Imperium Romanum is fun. The combat isn't exceptional but it is passable. I enjoyed the city building aspect because you get to manage the balance of citizens and build lots of small villages across the map to help support my larger city centers. The campaign was actually fun due to the tablet system, where you draw objectives as you go through a mission. After the mission is complete, they let you just sandbox in the map for however long you want.
I didn't care for the sequel, Grand Ages: Rome, because the city building was dumbed down in exchange for a more responsive military. They fucked up by making resources global flat production numbers and retarding citizen management to pre-designated classes. The scenarios are also stupidly easy to accomplish with the exception of maybe one.
>>15276819
Yes, but it's a genuinely shallow game. There isn't any sort of scaling challenge. Once you acquire a stable food supply, provided you aren't too dumb to keep that food supply stable and you never crash your population by building too many/too few houses, the game is finished. Talk about a game that could become so much better with the addition of some sort of scenarios or emerging challenges. Mods add a bit of complexity with the added chains, but they're mostly fruitless, unnecessary things.

Anno 2205 isn't a good game if you actually like playing games more than just a couple of hours. There's only one way to play the game. You start by customising your corporation (you) and shit, then you choose one of 3 temperate archipelagos to settle and you begin as normal in Anno. You've got logistics and different coast system to occupy yourself (namely there are "coastal explotaiton points" or something like that, so instead of cluttering entire shore with fisher huts you have to build them like mines) until you level up enough to have the game let you claim an arctic site, then eventually your little piece of the Moon.
Leveling up is done by getting more and more employees and ridiculously this is your primary source of income until the endgame, since there's so little income from taxes it takes ages to earn money for anything that way AND to earn much more money you >have< to reach next population class, since maintenance for creating more buildings to make more stuff for your consumerist people eats most of the profits from having more people in the first place. This means that you, a corporation, live from paycheck to paycheck and do so for completely arbitrary reasons (you can not level up after having done several RTS segments and go several levels up form just expanding your city). If you run dry and can't build more houses in a pinch you've gotta wait a lot. In previous titles you could trade with other sides, but in 2205 you don't have them - in each site there's a shop where you can buy some resources related to the zone, but that's it. You can't sell your staff there for profit and you can't make trade routes to buy (or sell, like in previous games) stuff automatically, you have to manually buy whatever you're lacking every now and then.
Considering on your map there's only you, you don't pass time by finding a good island (there are only 3 sites of each type and they all differ in 3 things - size, number of resource points and map project, which will take a lot of time and may or may not be useful), since a) all of them in a given site belong to you, b) every site of a given zone (temperate, arctic or lunar) produces the exact same stuff. There's no incentive to buy other sites in the same zone, since the only thing you gain is more space for your niggers, more resource points for more iPhones for your niggers and an opportunity to build a special project available only on that site.
The problem is, those range from useful (energy project), mediocre (logistics, rare resources) to useless ("ornamentals") and of those only one is worth doing 20 step quest that requires you to wait 15 minutes several times - and not just wait, no, you have to meet certain requirements, like… "Having 6 police stations", when you can have 3 of them just fine when you reach that step, or even better: "have 50k positive balance". The earlier you reach that step, the more useful the reward is, but to reach 50k positive balance you need to have a lot of investors (basically be in endgame), that's one, and two is after you get that 50k balance, it's very, very easy to dip below while you satisfy people's needs (maintenance is a bitch) and then the timer resets. The solution is to reach 50k, go for a walk and start playing again once the waiting's done. Hope you had stockpiled consumables so that people don't get angry and start paying less taxes! If you don't, you can always go to the shop and get fucked by the fact that it's offer is actually randomised every so often, so it's not sure you can use it to delay unhappiness in case you messed up. If you remember about the shop at that point, that is.
187e68 No.15284649
>>15284647
Other missions aren't that much better. I don't know all types of missions, but besides multi-step special project missions, there are also generic missions that show up independently of what you're doing and those are "find and tow me several objects", "bring me X resource", "tow a drone (it exists only for this mission) to enemy ships/destroyable objects in different locations (they exist only for this mission) and you can't just make an order queue because your ship needs to stand still for a while for drone to work" and… "find several objects somewhere in this site". Yes, you can be forced to play hidden objects game for a while if you want to do a given mission and the worst is that, if I recall correctly, they can be a special project quest step, so even if you don't want generic rewards, you still have to put up with this.
You have to jump between all those sites (and zones) all the time if you want to satisfy population's needs and that requires you to build all those buildings in every zone and since if people lack consumables they get angry, and if they angry they may downgrade their houses (less money and sets you back in progress), you naturally want to do that, which takes time to build all production chains, match outputs and make sure there's enough power and logistics for everyting, and after doing that you may want to adjust trade routes, now that you're keeping up with the demand.
There are so-called "rare resources" in the game that are used to upgrade your facilities, 1 general type and 3 specialized types, one per zone. Remember those RTS segments? They take part in yet ANOTHER, separate site, so you have to click a few times and wait for the game to load again. You get actual ships in those zones, more as you gain levels, in contrast to normal sites' "command ship/rover" (which are capable of transporting stuff, towing stuff and claiming new islands/craters, but nothing else). There are 5 types, you can upgrade individual ships in docks, but you cannot make more of them (in the end you get a set of 8 ships) and they're, honestly, pretty bland. Generalist ship, 2 tank ship, 2 range DPS ships and 3 small gimmick ships. Upgrading gives them just more HP and possibly attack, but it doesn't unlock any abilities. Those upgrades are pretty pricey at the beginning.
I have to say that though those RTS segments are completely disconnected from game otherwise, they aren't terrible on their own. As in, they're merely decent and thus boring. However, they can be somewhat a chore if you want to get maximum rewards from them, as some bonus missions are OK (destroy more of something, protect something), some are weird or just straight up bullshit - use an (useless) ability 3 times is not that bad, but having to play hidden object DURING A FUCKING BATTLE? The other way maximising profits is a chore is that there are typically rare resources in the open or in depot all over the map filled with enemies, so tearing through all that is eventually tiring, but there's also the thing that rare resource depots have all the same stylistic (just like all enemies) - black and red all over, differing only in shape. You can't tell them apart by a glance, you have to click on them individually. Oh, and you don't even need to play that RTS part of the game at all, since you gain rare resources when leveling up! Or you can just buy them in a shop.

I think they look fine when viewed normally, it's when you really zoom in that the cracks start to appear.
Maybe the DPI was simply unnecessarily high given the original size of the photobook and quality of the paper it was printed on (not to mention the way it was handled/stored before being scanned), but that's just my guess.
The high res does make for some nice downscaling to use as wallpapers for example, and it's likely better to err on the large side of the size spectrum when it comes to digital back-up/preservation for these things.

The cities all feel like they were plucked out of the 80's and 90's in a very nostalgic way. A lot of it is unreasonably picturesque (whether it's makeshift planters and moss in a dirty side alley or the general pleasantness of the countryside) and the people are indeed all polite in a way that makes one's own country feel not as nice.
The biggest disappointment was looking at myself and where I came from in the context of Japan. It's a working country, with spiritually connected people and culture, which made me realize how empty Western consumerism can be.

The most excited Japanese tourists I recall were just roaming around Cleveland in the 90's. I have no idea why. It was even before the Rock n Rorr Hall was in. Maybe because of Major League? Oh shit, that's probably it. I nearly forgot how big on basedball they are.

As a rule of thumb when visiting any country, don't place too much hope in the more cosmopolitan big cities, they're always the first places where degeneracy and decadence starts to set in, stick to rural/small towns if possible.
>>15298517
**Besides Germany Japan is the only country I've always wanted to visit but I fucking hate tourism.
I've lived in the same city my whole life and I've had to see it grow into a tourist hotspot throughout the years, a lot has changed and it feels like the way the city is being expanded, the construction projects being developed, malls, hotels, even the way the local culture is passed down/treated and much more are all geared towards catering to and pleasing the tourists while pushing its own people to the sidelines; so much effort has been placed into becoming cosmopolitan and "wordly" that if feels like a completely different and alien city nowadays, and that only gonna get worse over time.
I'm sick and tired of seeing foreigners parade themselves around like they own the fucking place, which is not helped at all by the exchange rate between the dollar and the local currency that allows for a middle class citizen from the US to enjoy some relatively luscious vacations over here. I don't ever want to be that guy that locals will smile at when selling you something but will sneer at behind your back in resentment of what they have to put up with.**
>b-but the economy…!
I know, I'm not dumb and I understand why some things have to come to pass, but still, who ever said it was always easy balance your feelings and logic.**

It's pretty cool to visit. The worst thing about it for me was other foreigners but then those were mostly the weebs or the "spiritually enlightened" whores.
Akiba also isn't the huge Otaku mecca it's made out to be. Some cool stores that sell old games and shit but most of it is shit you can get easily in the west. The maids will piss you off too.

Paris Syndrome is prevalent among pretty much anyone who goes to Paris, even those that went there 50 years ago. They somehow didn't think that European cities are just like American cities, in that they have their "nice" areas and the ghettos. It's just in Europe they pretty up the nice parts for the tourists. God forbid you take a turn off an alleyway from the Champs Elysees.

It's an overwhelmingly racially uniform country. Outside of the main tourist traps, foreigners are very rare to see. If you stand in a train station during rush hour, you will see a uniform sea of suits and black hair. It's disconcerting if you're from an 'enriched' country. That said, disgusting tourists are real, and I did see a few stereotypical sheboons and fat, white, loud americans; they're totally real, but for the most part it was fine.

No, not really. Every country has tourism, and it is largely beneficial to said country. It's not like you're moving there to go rape women and rob people.

If you visit the shitholes south of Ezo and north of Okinawa, abso-fucking-lutely. The Ryukyuans and the Ainu are the only native people, while everyone else is descended from island-hopping Chink colonists. If Anglos are bad, imagine if you took Chinks and turned them into the regional Anglo-equivalent.

You mean malls and hotels that are built unnecessarily, that keep getting built despite the fact that the existing malls look like ghost towns in general and the new ones being erected can't even rent/sell over half of their spaces and the hotels don't look much better. These things are being built each time closer to residential areas and keep driving up the property value.
Rampant corruption and lack of proper (national) governmental oversight along with the pressure from wealthy individuals with pull within the local political sector to keep developing the city means that a lot of local mafias can easily invest in these construction projects as a way to launder their money.
Have you ever heard about how the (((Olympics))) wreck a city's economy and leave behind a bunch of new property that has no real demand from the local population and descends into disuse over time, because it was all made for the sake of being pretty and accommodating for the visitors? It's a process along that same vein, just much slower. A mask of modernity being constructed on top of an economic base that can't really sustain it over time; putting the cart before horse, basically.

Japs are worse than chinks. They're to Chinks what Anglo-Saxons were to the Germanics.
>invade everywhere
>parades themselves as masters of the sea
>becomes wealthy at some point
>looks in disgust at the native population, living in the old-way, speaking the rightful and old tongue
>comes to hate the mainlanders, despite being culturally and ethnically descended from them
>becomes decadent as the urban crawl marches on
>collapses
It's only a matter of time. Fucking Japs deserve it too, they can't fight for freedom like the Okinawans, and they have no traditions as old as the Ainu.
