Case in point Resident Evil 2. Zombie humans? yeah durable and tough but slow and cumbersome. Zombie elephant? yeah thats a walking tank that can do real damage but its just one.

BUT FUCKING ZOMBIE CROWS?

>travel in packs literally called a murder up to two dozen strong

>can fucking fly

>needle like beak for shredding flesh

>already the perfect scavenger, now cannot die and hungers for flesh

>can travel 200 miles in a single day

>all in full viral amplification and bigger than rats so could easy pass the weight threshold to be carriers for the T virus

>literally no way they could have kept them all contained when the situation took days for it to get to the 'well we nuke the city' stage.

But the devs never realised this because it was an action horror and in closed corridors its all about the protagonists journey. Meanwhile the american continent at least would be fucked.

The crow is like the national bird of Japan. They don't have a gull problem, just huge crows everywhere. I was walking back to my hostel a few weeks ago at 5am and approached something moving, which turned out to be a big ass crow catching and eating rats. They do not fuck around. It would be nice to have a dystopia game where you could stay/live/work in whatever 'safe' hub city there is and see enough varied action through trading, crafting, stealing, (in-game) politics, minigames of whatever sort and being a titanic jew that you don't instantly feel compelled go out into the shit and slaughter a billion scaly mutant cunts for their skin. Obviously that slaughterfest should be possible and doubtless many tasks could be set out there if the player is inclined to do them but I suppose you could also get rich in a casino then hire mercenaries to do jobs for you on the outside (with a lower return than if the play goes) if you're too much of a faggot or are too busy being a townie gangster or whatever.

000000 No.15272056

As a genre, science fiction suffers from this the most, where creators make up a cool but haven't thought through all the implications this might have. Best recent example I can think of was SC2. That universe and gameplay cannot withstand any amount of critical thought. Like they added mining robots that drop in anywhere from an "orbital command." The fuck am I trying to build a shitty sim city under constant assault and running dudes through defenses on foot when we could Starship Troopers drop in? Or just do some kinetic bombardment on enemy defenses? I get why the gameplay doesn't have this stuff, but even the first game was more thoughtful about its world.

Similarly, most games that have giant spaceships that can fly at the speed of light, but somehow warfare isn't about hurling massive objects at the speed of light. Why invest in a death star when you could fling some giant asteroids at a fraction of the price? Light speed is OP.

Re: FTL and Relativity Weapons

Many FTL systems, such as the Hyperdrive from SW (ignoring Disney because it isn't SW), most warp drives, and "Jump" systems, do not actually increase the momentum of the vessel that much. Hyperdrives switches you to tachyonic matter, which can only go FTL and cannot interact with baryonic (normal) matter. Warp drives can distort your inertia, but disruption of the field drops you back into regular velocity, and impacts with the field up still only hit with that same distorted inertia (and therefore the same momentum). With jump systems, the ship goes into another dimension, but it's "realspace" momentum also remains the same because they exit the jump at the same speed, so transitioning back into realspace will drop their matter back to regular velocity.

I mean, there are countless video games out there where you get instant deaths/game overs after some arbitrary turn count or time limit, I'm pretty sure just about every jrpg has at least one boss with an ability like that, final fantasy even has its tonberrys not to mention stuff like metroid games where the entire area you're in is about to go to shit if you can't get out in time comes up a lot.

It's something that's really, really understated among fans (not to mention just completely forgotten by Valve themselves if Epistle 3 is anything to go by), but this is explicitly the case in Half-Life in the wake of the portal storms - by the time the Universal Union showed up, humanity had been congregating in fortress cities for years as a means of keeping themselves safe from all the invasive species that the Earth had suddenly picked up. Of course, as the Universal Union's occupation/draining of Earth drags on and more and as more invasive species find their way to Earth, things can only be expected to get so much worse still.

i highly doubt it was for years, and it could be no more than 2-5. there's the implication that the combine invaded while humanity was dazed and confused by portal storms after being herded into cities which was a reason why the defeat was so brutal. the fact that the UN building is present in the newspaper showcasing earth's defeat also indicates this, as the UN would be 100% obsolete after a few years post-portal storms.

Because you'll be wasting time and fuel cutting yourself off from the guys you're ordering around to go grab asteroid chunks because you need to break orbit to match the speed of whatever asteroids you're lucky enough to have nearby that you could realistically come to and back within about a few days.

All attacks from space involving an "orbital command" would have to already be prepared beforehand or orbital command would have to be a station, ship, or fleet capable of committing those kinds of attacks with their own weapons and means of producing ammo.

FYI any weapon capable of doing any significant harm at those distances would be on the level of a nuke or greater or it's not worth the effort just so you could dent a building with a big rock that is just going to be repaired anyways.
