The current videogame industry has no originality and is all about copying what was successful. But the question is, how come no one copies Nintendo, the guys that are actually doing something that makes sense to me.

>Make relatively cheap game

>Sell to a core audience

>Said core audience loyally buys your products because you cater to them

Everyone wants to make shitty Battle Royal shit but Mario Odyssey selling like hotcakes makes no one stop and think that maybe that might be a good way to do business?

Nintendo put effort into Odyssey.

Companies put effort into making shitty gambling PUBG clones too. It's just that the effort isn't going into things like gameplay.

>why does something branded nintendo sells like hotcakes

ab7e5e No.15265104

>>15264992

Nintendo has an advantage over all competitors. Parents buy Nintendo for their children as the brand is successfully tied to that particular image for right or wrong. Copying isn't going to cut it, making something popular and free and accessible is the future for children/multiplayer games.

e3270a No.15265105

>>15265079

It doesn't though. When nintendo does stupid shit like make a Paper Mario game without any writing it sells bad. People would buy games from other companies too if they built themselves a fanbase.

right

>why does the latest meh rio game sells like hotcakes

e3270a No.15265136

>>15265112

I literally explained why.

>Foster dedicated fanbase by targetting a specific audience and catering to them

daaa92 No.15265218

>>15265136

the children who will buy anything with bright colours if marketed enough + manchildren who grew up with mario nostalgiafagging audience is a limited one. while following the BR fad is stupid don't pretend nintendo doesn't make money on name alone.

All the Western developers who tried to do right by fans threw too much money at a game along the way and wound up selling to kikes. Someone post the picture of EA executing studios.

<Why do companies seeking short term profit and operation not copy the tactics of a company that seeks to satisfy a long term audience

Durr I dunno

e3270a No.15265253

>>15265218

>The children who buy anything with bright colors

Why don't other companies make their own colorful platformers any more?

>Name alone

Yeah, by building a fanbase who look forward to the next "Mario" "Zelda" or "Metroid" game. Any company can do this.

e3270a No.15265256

>>15265250

Well then why do they seek short term profits? There are many companies including Amazon, GMG, ect that purposely operated at a loss for over 5 years in order to generate massive profit long term. Why aren't vidya investors the same?

You know what's funny? I saw a thread EXACTLY like this when Brawl was announced.

I sincerely sometimes wonder if I'm stuck in a time loop.

>Well then why do they seek short term profits?

Because it's easier than planning for a long term software development company.

62a056 No.15265274

The reason nobody tries to copy Nintendo is because Nintendo is in the market of making videogames, rather than cinematic shooters.

You can't just throw more high quality textures, models, voice acting, and other triple A cinematic junk at a Nintendo-esque game and expect it to succeed. The game itself has to actually be fun, which is something our good ol' modern gaming industry has left behind in favor of telling mature stories to teenagers.

>>15265256

Short term profit appeal more to investing than long term profit. This is because short term profit is "money now", and long term profit is "money later".

Best example: Look at all the fucking retards investing in GPU mining bitcoin AFTER the price soared.

the whole earth is in a time loop. there is nothing new under the sun

17f066 No.15265292

I suspect it has to do with management.

Managers are hired and fired based on results.

Long term results will take time to manifest, therefore managers aim for short term results.

Because every manager only goes for short term profit, the company overall only goes for short term profit.

Meanwhile, Japanese companies hire for life. So people there are less afraid to go for long term results.

I find it curious too.

BoTW was a flawed game sure but the engine is excellent, doing shit no one bothers with anymore on extremely outdated hardware to boot.

Except instead of making good visual representations that can easily be identified their just doing it to be hipsters and still end up having shit tons of visual clutter.
