Ross Scott did a video talking about these inconsistencies pretty well. Like the game was likely either intended to be a sequel, or a standalone game, but then they decided to call it a Deus Ex Prequel at the last minute and ship it.

Well he never said that. He said it seems like they wanted to make a cyberpunk game in their own universe but couldn't.

Star Wars: Republic Commando made wookies 10 foot tall behemoth, among other differences, because they made things cooler. I was fine with that, and I'm fine with this.

I don't even consider HR to be in the same universe as the original. Everything that made the original great is thrown out the window, the whole setting is ridiculous bullshit about cyborg racism, and you don't even get the option to take sides save for, at the end "pick A, B, or C". It's obviously meant to be a separate series, but it got thrown under "Deus Ex" due to marketing.

36e9be No.15263439

>>15262926

it was already stated by the devs they did it because they felt that modern technology was already more advanced than deus ex. I think they missed the point that it's not supposed to be super advanced, that's part of the appeal, it's relatable but with some clear advances.

Fact : Original Deus Ex is completely uninterested in science fiction, prefers conspiracies, and would have worked just as well if the augmentations were some kind of supernatural ability. HR is decidedly sci-fi before anything else, and this is why they clash.

> Original Deus Ex is completely uninterested in science fiction

Plotwise maybe, plenty of scifi in it's themes

Difference is that Deus Ex is still grounded in reality while HR goes full fantasy SciFi.

You mean wookies arn't 10 foot tall murdering machines that can rip the arms off a person?

a07810 No.15263988

>>15263888

Except for the androids.

And the nanomachines vs mechanical augmentations.

And the Dragon Tooth Sword.

And the Plasma Cannon.

And all the Robots.

And the Plague.

And all the several AIs that play major key roles in the game.

You're conflating the style of something being futuristic with science fiction. Both games went hard on science fiction, making huge amounts of their plot and world building based around fictituous elements that were justified in a scientific manner in-game.

The difference is that Deus Ex plays the entire plot of "it's just another form of controlling the masses" as much as it could possible played and then some more, exploring every angle, every consequence, every solution, every way it could be done and everyone who could play a role in it. And despite all that, it's remarkably neutral in how it portrays everything since it tries it's best to make every aproach seem sensible to a degree.

Meanwhile, Human Revolution boils it down specifically about the main character's story, every consequence is mostly to do with him and how it affects him. Everything else feels a lot like background stuff that's there for flavor. Oh, people are losing their jobs because of mechanical augmentation? I guess that's bad… But check out this dude being cyberracist to Adam! Wooo! Bad!

It's not the extra futuristic look that makes it look more retarded, it just genuinely is a lot more simple than the first game because of how shallow everyone and everything is, with clearly not as much effort fleshing it all out.

If Deus Ex was a detective movie, where the motives of the human psyche are explored in paralell with finding the weapon, motive and murderer, Human Revolution is an action movie, where it's all about the main character shooting everyone that plays a role in his tragic backstory.

It makes perfect sense. JC Denton was an agent handled by people who cared a lot about secrecy. Adam Jensen was a disgraced ex-cop who was used as a goon by goons. The stealthy guy gets the stealthy ride and the goon gets the loud, conspicuous, balls-to-the-walls ride.

The whole game was designed around the piss filter, so you can't really get rid of it without the game feeling off. As for me sometimes when it snows, it's a heavy fog at night all the streets looks like it's covered in a much more orange piss filter so I always felt it matched the mood of the backalleys.

>Designed around a piss filter

The only thing that makes your statement even mildly correct is the fact the cutscenes are done in piss filter and "technically" Detroit I guess. Otherwise your statement is wrong. The piss filter doesn't belong in Hong Kong, Panchea, and Montreal. The reason the piss filter makes any sense in Detroit, and in your example, is because of the ambient lighting from street lights and buildings. Even then your example is incredibly suspect since the only reason you get that "piss filter" in real life is the fog + said ambient light and there is hardly any fog present in Deus Ex. In real life you would only get your piss filter if you looked at specific areas at specific times under specific conditions, the intensity of the piss filter is completely out of place in the game.

there's mods to disable respawning enemies but the problem is it's a survival horror, when you clear a deck and there's nothing to deal with what the fuck is there to survive from?

Personally speaking I think you need to have a level of tolerance for mediocre game play to enjoy shock2, none of the enemies are really challenging and none of the weapons or psi feels really good to use, so it just may not be for everyone. If you haven't yet play Bioshock 2 and Thief Gold & The Metal Age.
