A game about a heroic group of salvagers who run around the galaxy taking capital ships, they are also accompanied by some big banana boat or whatever, but that doesn't matter.

Deserts of Kharak is about the world's most difficult space program negotiations.

Has any one else realized that it's more fun to fuck with serious posts than it is to make them? Picking up good posts, shitting on them and then raking in (you)s. Digging up really old threads and seeing how mad anons get at you for necroing.

It seems like I spend more time shitting posts up than I do making them.

Whats your current shitpost goal and what do you plan to use to piss off anons? What sort of memes have you put into it and what do you expect to get out of it?

>Another RTS without base-building

I kind of can entertain the idea of having a mobile base and production facility, but static structures belong to an RTS like lichens on a sloth. Earth 2150 has a rather neat way to circle around this by giving you two battlefields - a main base in which you could research new tech and train units between (also during) the missions, and the respective mission maps themselves. Meaning that you usually had very little incentive to produce units on the mission maps because you normally wanted to fly in reinforcements from your main base (and the game encouraged you to be very economic with your resources, so building structures on a mission map usually was something you wanted to avoid).

So, like the original?

Bases in Earth campaign were kinda cheap, since nobody but ED would have them attacked, so they were mostly to look good, it didn't matter how you built them.

>>15252310

There was also the shipyard, which is more or less a pocket base, even more helpless than mother/flagship. I have to agree it's not comparable.

Don't. It's complete lore-rape. Writers could not even bother to read the freely available HW1 manual, or even play through the previous HW-games.

No. Not really. Go play original Homeworld, or Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock.

Yes, they pretty much broke the gameplay, since remake hit-calculations are based on RNG instead of ballistics. This breaks unit formations, and gameplay balance that was more or less dependent on unit formations.

> Earth 2150 has a rather neat way to circle around this by giving you two battlefields

I don't remember any battle in your main base.

You just constructed pretty much everything in your main base and just build the bare basics in the remote missions.

I really loved how you could keep old troops, can't remember if you could upgrade them or just had to suicide them to free some supply limit (space Homeworlds had a nice "recycle" option which recovered a lot of the original resources from the unit).

I still think those chicks who lived in the moon were too overpowered. I wonder if 2160 is better.

Ah, I finished recently the Homeworld 1 remake. The original is too old for me, checked its guide and realized the original was way more tactical and had features that were absent in the remake (Don't worry about fuel, also the hitting angle is not that important.) To compensate from this omissions the remake now always rewards your enemies with double your troops, so if you did nice and stole every possible unit (stolen units aren't limited by supply limit) then you'll be facing absolutely impossible odds. I usually got massacred in less than a minute. Had to reload a saved game from the previous mission and recycle some units.

THE YES SONG IS NOT IN THE REMAKE'S ENDING CREDITS

2160 is trash, I wouldn't bother with it if I was you.

The Remakes are made on the HW2 engine which uses RNG instead of simulating rounds fired so things like evasion and aggressive stance do nothing and formations are pointless.

They also changed how the AI works in the campaign; as examples they get lump sums of res so even if you kill all their harvesters they still build ships and as you've noticed the difficulty scales with you.

Homeworld Cataclysm is on GOG as Homeworld Emergence, it's pretty dope.

>2160

It controls a bit better, but you don't have 2 bases anymore.

2160 is interesting since it's an RTS full of neat new ideas and some improvements I'd really like to see in other games, but it does end up falling flat after a while.

For instance, I really like that you can set up automatic production of units, assign a control group they'll join once produced and even tell them to join said group once done. You can set Ctrl+1 for frontline troops, Ctrl+2 for infantry, Ctrl+3 for Artillery and Ctrl+4 for Aerial support for instance and once it's all set up, you pretty much just get reinforcements to those 4 groups, no longer needing to select units.

But then there's weird shit like how your units gain experience from combat and their stats improve. You can then put a basic infantry inside a vehicle as pilot and his stats will massively improve the vehicle, but the amount of micro required to keep squishy infantry alive and then put them inside a vehicle really doesn't justify the marginal benefit you actually get out of it.

There's also eletrical damage that disables vehicles or mind damage that kills the pilot and leaves the vehicle intact. Those are fun but can get annoying unless you're building around them.

The alien race was quite unbalanced from what I heard, especially with the aerial units, but their entire "base building" is a fuck load of micro to drain water and the pathfinding in the game really doesn't help this at all.

If you really must, you can just get Grey Goo since it's essentially the same game on a newer engine with slight changes, but it's pretty much the same factions too in terms of gameplay.

>>15253077

if you buy (or otherwise procure) the remaster it comes with afaik untouched versions of both games except cataclysm. I believe they're completely untouched so they're as good as they always were, lacking widescreen support included.

I actually did buy it (for a friend when he didn't have a PC) so homeworld 1 is 306mb but I've not played it. My friend just played the multiplayer on the remaster and destroyed people with cheese tactics, mass building defenders till pop cap and rushing for a HC. Man it was so unbalanced, I bet they haven't fixed it.

>You just constructed pretty much everything in your main base and just build the bare basics in the remote missions.

You could fly your units back to the main base, which was heavily encouraged because each units could "level up" to gain higher stats; especially a longer attack range which was invaluable once your light fliers managed to outrange static anti-air defenses. You can also upgrade units to the most recent chassis or weapons model if you have researched the upgraded repair tool..

>I still think those chicks who lived in the moon were too overpowered. I wonder if 2160 is better.

The Lunar Corporation was big on energy weapons, but had problems in the late game because the only conventional guns they had which bypassed shields were rockets launchers - compared to the hitscan tank guns of the ED and the UCS.

And Earth 2160 a shit. The Aliens with their hugeass spaceships are hilariously overpowered, while ED players spend more time trying not to build themselves into a corner with their modular bases than they do actually fighting the enemy.

And good luck actually getting around the goddamn copyright protection even if you bought a legit copy of the game.

In HW2 they just prevent hyperspacing in. I wonder why many people (not on imageboards) prefer 2 to 1, if it's such a downgrade.

>>15253144

Earth 2150 and 2160 both have lots of creative ideas, but they've mostly just thrown ideas at the wall and seen what sticked. Like in webm related; missiles are physical objects and have to be shot in an arc if there are obstacles in the way. It sucks that you need to upgrade them for tracking, though.

>ayys

Aerial units not only were available from the start, they didn't require any research (since the faction don't have any) and while you had to clone the first ship and then make a transitional ship that used metal instead of crystals, THEN you could right away make shielded fighters in fours that were pretty good or make shielded cruisers that had also point defence, a lot of weapons and were strong, but also could evolve further, into a ship that was shittier against buildings, but was even tankier and had even more lasers and PD, or into a ship that could only delete buildings, but deleted them very vast and was pretty tanky too. The big issue with their ships is that you had to use massed AA missiles, as energy AA bounced back at you and too little missiles would get shot down by PD. Basically what if you could make pretty quickly mobile, tanky flyers that countered AA. Oh, and they were completely divorced economically from ground units, you build them concurrently instead of focusing on one or the other.

>>15257117

ED base building at least could get improved by letting any connect to any, but UCS is a fucking tragedy, stupidly huge bases that provide little supply limit.

Speaking of LC, they had it kinda bad, since they couldn't upgrade their units, had limited underground capability (even if it's very situational itself), and didn't really have the raw power of plasma or utility of ED energy weapons. Fuck them for building their bases all over the map too.

adf4b5 No.15257790

I hated this game. The combat is incredibly boring and the plot makes no sense. I gave up when I reached the ship graveyard mission. I understand that ship graveyards are pretty common in the series but you can't put that in a game set on fucking Kharak without making plot holes everywhere. I might have stuck with it but I was sick of the actual gameplay by then. I have no idea how they managed to make the game feel so bland when the original is still fun to play decades later.

The entire uninhabitable equator is full of ships teleported there by the big whoop engine the ancient hiigarans smuggled onto Kharak that interferes with subspace travel.

The desert is so thick that the shifting sands constantly throw a few of them up, except when the gaalsien go after the really deep ones and dig them out, which they have been doing for the past 400 years.

There's a whole .exe file full of background story that says this kind of stuff.

The LC did get the Tunnel digger as of The Moon Project, though. The only thing they did not have were minelayers. And lightning/electro cannons could disable enemy vehicles while still being fairly effective against buildings - a far call from the ED laser guns that raped anything without a shield but were virtually useless against buildings.
