I've heard that if you turn off all the help and indicators MGSV can actually be fun. Is there any truth to that? It was supposed to be the chosen one.

b5c0aa No.15248654

MGSV is fun even as is and you fucking know it, you little (you) whore.

fc9e2f No.15248663

no the indicators aren't the issue, it's the lack of level design. The game gives you a ton of tools to play with the but lack of good compounds and areas makes it so many of these tools aren't ideal to use and the nature of the missions causes it to stagnate quickly.

We used to have MGSV threads and have fun raiding FOBs, but that fizzled out because Mark can't bother to moderate his own board and clean out illuminati-wannabe fags like you.

The game is actually really fun when you play it in subsistence mode

Some of the games missions have subsistence mode which forces you to play it like the pre MGS4 MGS games. Namely, no upgrades, no unlocks, no spawning with weapons and no buddies. You need to secure everything on site and it forces you to actually pay attention to the enemies far more and not rely on cheap weapons like the tranq to get through areas. Esp if you want a high rating.

There's a mod that lets you do this for other missions in the game which is really nice. It really feels closer to what they intended for the game.

Gotcha, I’ll give it another go then. Last time I played it I got to Africa and just got burnt out for some reason probably the level design.

ad4b75 No.15248824

>>15248641

I did that as soon as I could and I still hated MGSV. It's just far too repetitive and wastes much more of your time on unskippable, non-interactive sequences than any of the previous games ever did, which is pretty ironic considering how relatively thin the plot is. The lack of variety in locales, bases and enemy types doesn't help either.

I did too. I am ashamed of my words and deeds.

The game is blatantly unfinished, made worse by how obvious the holes where additional continent would have been are, but I enjoyed fucking with the AI and figuring out what dumb-ass bullshit I could do with C4 or a tank or an inflatable shock-dummy during a self-invented clusterfuck. It ain’t the masterpiece it wanted to be, and could have been a lot better if it hadn’t been made to run on the PS3 through sheer willpower, but it’s still alright for what it is rather than what it could have been.

At least a third of that time was MGO3, and damn it was fun before they nerfed the Prometheus scanners and rockets. I saw they added Quiet as an FOB player but I dunno if I want to chase that dragon all over again.

I'll say this, MGSV is the best incomplete game I've ever played. I do love all the little details in it too.

>You can knock soldiers out if you perfectly aim a magazine at their heads

>You can slide in a cardboard box if you go down a sloped surface and knock soldiers out that way

>Cardboard box will break in the rain

>You can electrocute soldiers by shooting power poles in rain

>If you time it right, you can fulton a vehicle and have it smash into an enemy helicopter

>If you fucked up and set the troops on alert, you can grab a soldier like he's your hostage, and the troops facing you down won't shoot as long as he's in the way (I think they will fuck you up from the sides or behind though)

>360 movement while proned, Snake will change from being on his belly and laying on his back

>While doing the side missions where you rescue the missing mother base soldiers, if you play Love Deterrence on your cassette player, and then play it on the speakers, the soldiers will run up to you, salute, and express their gratitude

>If you encircle a soldier with dummies and place yourself among them, they'll have a hard time figuring out which one is the real you

>This is really autistic, but having the option to only display hud when aiming or in combat. Most games either have On/Off option and this pisses me off

No other game even does half of this kind of shit anymore.

cbb072 No.15250564

Would MGSV have been good had Kojima finished everything he wanted to do?

Lets remember that he kept saying it was going to be the last MGS game going all the way back to 2. By the time 4 came out it was virtually a lock that was the last one until they then announced that nope yet another is going to come out. He was also given a ton of time as it is whether you like Konami or not. I mean was he going to take 10 or more years to finish? Was he going to demand Konami fund him a few hundred million for his dream MGS game?

Also he already ruined the storyline canon by releasing 4 anyways.

5c436b No.15250602

>>15250564

We'll never know the truth, was Kojima overspending and wasting money on Hollywood writers and actors to the point that the game was bloated or could Konami take a gamble and used this game along with the Fox Engine to get a resurgence in the industry they quickly returned to after Gambling was legalized in Japan?

cbb072 No.15250651

>>15250602

You mean made illegal right? I found that pretty damn funny for Konami when I read someone mention that Japan recently passed laws on that.

My opinion is that Konami was actually more in the right here than Kojima. Supposedly MGSV budget was already pretty big at that point and as you said, he seemed to want to get all this Hollywood influence into his game because lets face it, this fucker would prefer to be in Hollywood than making games. He always has wished he could. I think Kojima is basically the George Lucas of gaming. I've seen many call him that. He's got great ideas but he never always fleshed everything out good. Especially so with his later MGS games being a mess. However he may prove to be the best thing MGS could have ever hoped for if Disney's treatment of Star Wars parallels how Konami is going to treat it in the future.

To me the MGS games take a pretty hard nosedive after 3 with the only exception being that the later games play better. However the gameplay isn't so good that it makes those games great. In fact for 4 at least it is to the contrary since 4 has way too much shoved story and shitty level/act to play in. 4 is easily the worst of the ones I played.

5c436b No.15250732

>>15250651

By the time Konami's new CEO was planning to give up on the core gaming market and just go to pachinko and mobage bullshit, Casino Gambling was legalized, it was one of the reasons why some of the Yakuza are impoverished right now and why Konami's out of touch board members wanted them to shit out Metal Gear Survive. And MGS3 man, like fuck, it has the awesome survival going innawoods Green Beret gameplay, but was short out of open world because the areas were pretty damn small stages connected to each other. My only wish is MGS3 in MGS5.

I used to think that Konami was in the wrong but seeing how Kojima is almost never in his studio in preparation for DS, spending instead all the time traveling, meeting up with hollywood buddies and virtue signaling… I'm starting to think he's in the wrong. Kojima can be a great director with some control but unrestrained he'll do more bad than good

3566ad No.15250795

>>15248969

This. Putting the clusterfuck story aside, my biggest issue with MGSV was the lack of interesting bases to infiltrate. The movement and stealth elements feel really great, but it's utterly wasted because 98% of the game is mud hut villages or tent-filled military outposts. The game desperately needed some large, elaborate military complexes with tons of vents, hallways, and other such interior locations to sneak around and explore in.

Instead, every mission leads to yet another African/Middle-Eastern adobe village with single-room houses.

13dbc3 No.15250836

>>15250564

We all wish Konami gave him all the money he could ever need or want to make the dream perfect game. We all wanted MGSV to be better than it was. However, reality comes calling and we have to drop those notions. Businesses exist to make money and watch their accounts. MGS V, despite being unfinished whether it was 90% or 50%, was already one of the most expensive games of all time. Its completely unreasonable to expect Konami to shell out another fifty million or whatever the development budget was just so Kojima can spend another five years to finish the game.

Konami fucked up by treating the team like shit and the rumoured order to have MGSV be on 360 and PS3 as well. They also got too giddy at the gambling potential, so their gaming division being a meager part of their total operations, they decided to gut it. Kojima fucked up by delaying and over spending.

>>15250795

>The game desperately needed some large, elaborate military complexes with tons of vents, hallways, and other such interior locations to sneak around and explore in.

you had the big base in Hellbound and even then it felt underwhelming due to the low enemy density (given the engine shortcomings) and the lack of good reasons to explore other than resources. I think the last point is one of the reasons level design feels so boring, many places are actually good but the only reason to visit some areas is to get some resource. In previous MGS titles exploration was vital to the experience. Having everything be developed and supplied at will really hurt the game. Just compare it to Ground Zeroes where if you want that extra silencer or a new weapon you had to explore. Had they included Camp Omega in TPP, it would have felt underwhelming as well.

The game is a victim of current gaming trends (grinding, open world and so on)

e4f1f9 No.15250997

>>15248663

Yep. It's why Ground Zeroes is more fun, and also why the missions which involve more tightly designed sections or even railroading, such as Phantom Limbs, Pitch Dark, Voices and Hellbound are some of the best in the game. Any time the game actually forces you down a path or to approach an area from a particular angle, it starts to feel much more like a Metal Gear game again, instead of Japanese Far Cry 3.

8b991a No.15251112

>>15250997

funny, I think Voices and Hellbound are a chore to play. The most fun I had with the game were the very few missions that actually used the open-world to its benefit, like Red Brass or Backup Back Down for example. But I agree that Ground Zeroes is the best experience in the whole MGSV thing

The controls and gameplay mechanisms are fucking top notch. The problem is the lack of story to give the gameplay purpose, the fact that it was built for 360 and PS3 so the worlds couldn’t actually be populated with anything (thereby making the game repetitive and empty), and the fact that the game wasn’t finished.

9fe7e8 No.15254985

>>15248755

>Some of the games missions have subsistence mode

Wait for Infinite Heaven to update to the newest version and ALL missions will have it (as well as custom game modes, such as one where all enemies within a 2 mile radius know where you are at all times, and you have to escape that radius before you can leave the map).

9fe7e8 No.15254998

>>15254576

Infinite Heaven and Morbid’s Side-Op Pack. Neither works with the newest update, and the game says it’s going to be updating once a week for the next few months, so don’t expect them to update their mods again until the “final” update in the series. We’re nearing the end of development, unfortunately. There are plenty of aesthetic mods for model swaps, but I don’t use any. If you like playing as the Mother Base girls out in the world, there’s a mod to get rid of their running breathing because they sound asthmatic. And just get the “all soldiers are S++” mod, because that doesn’t matter anymore, everyone who still plays the FOB invasion is a hacker anyway, and S++ helps you with singleplayer in-game features and functionality.

1df090 No.15256522

>>15248641

It makes for some minor improvements but ultimately you will only like it of you enjoy the base building grind loop. I would recommend Ground Zeroes way more for it's vastly superior story, music, level design, and gameplay. Going from GZ to TPP you basically gain the open world and fultoning things to build your base, but lose amazing set pieces like a helicopter battle, things which basically got pushed to cutscenes in TPP. GZ is definitely shorter but I think as a game it is still better and the comparison is fair.
