7b923a No.15231094

So I played this game for the very first time. So far, I've played the first 6 missions. It's cool, but I feel like it's kinda archaic. I hate how stiff Dante's jump is. There's no reason to have a Classic Castlevania style jump in this kind of game. The fixed camera placements can really get on my nerves if I'm fighting an enemy and I'm away from it for any reason at all. The worst fucking part about this game though is that enemies can block, but for some unexplainable reason, you can't. Dodging is kinda tedious to do already, so why not give me a block button?

I had a fairly comfortable time with this game except for the bosses. Not so much the first boss, because I managed to kill him after a few deaths once I realized that you can stand on top of him to deal damage. However, Nelo Angelo is pretty irritating. I died around 10 or 15 times to him, and I only managed to win by using the devil trigger constantly although I always saw the devil trigger as more of a last resort sort of thing when you're in a pinch. I later learned that you have to utilize taunting to keep the devil trigger up. Unfortunately, I didn't know this because my copy of the game didn't come with an instruction manual.. That ghost thing with the scissors in the sewers is a bitch to fight. I found out that the best way to handle them is jump-attacking them, but, given my previous fights with the smaller ghosts, I kinda thought that guns were the ONLY way of hurting them. Maybe I'm stupid, but I kinda wish that was conveyed a bit better. Despite my problems, I liked everything else about what I played so far.

Anyway, I have a couple questions:

>To a newbie to the DMC franchise like me, how good are the sequels? I know DMC2 is bad, so I'm skipping that one.

>Does doing the secret missions do anything?

>Are there are tips/advice that you can give to me that I must know about before progressing further?

>To a newbie to the DMC franchise like me, how good are the sequels? I know DMC2 is bad, so I'm skipping that one.

really good, except 2. if you have the HD collection, you might as well play on hard can't remember if there is a code to unlock all difficulties

>Does doing the secret missions do anything?

yes, they are fun and worth it

>Are there are tips/advice that you can give to me that I must know about before progressing further?

play Crrrraaazzzzy kinda serious. the games get more fun the more ridiculousd your playstyle

The biggest piece of advice I'd give is to play it through again on Hard as soon as you're done. Normal mode is more or less a tutorial for the real game, although you won't realize that until you improve yourself and look back on your first playthrough. Wouldn't want to spoil all of the techniques since learning is half the fun, but two simple ones you might not yet realize are

a) charged shots cause knockdown and also build style

b) using the downward slash after an Air Hike doubles the damage of your attack

Don't forget to try out Ifrit when you get it, sometimes it's better to use that than Alastor.

>Does doing the secret missions do anything?

They reward you blue orb fragments and also slightly improve your rank at the end of the mission. The final Secret Mission gives you something really cool that's a secret, and there will also be a nice line of stars on your End Results screen to show you what a good job you did for finishing the Secret Missions. They're honestly not great, except for the ones where you fight mobs of Shadows.

You can switch between Alastor and Ifrit by pressing down R3.

1 has a bit of rust on it, from age. Its solid, but 3 and 4 are absolutely massive improvements gameplay wise. 3 also has a really good story.

Skip 2, its garbage, the devs pretend it didn't happen and its practically not canon.

Play 3 on PC with the style switcher mod. Learn to jump cancel, style switch and switch the DT and fire gun button, so you can charge your gun while doing other shit.

Play 4 wherever.

Anon did you seriously have to make a thread about this? Especially in one boring fucking blogpost? I'll humor you anyways though.

Just play the games and enjoy them dude, nothing more nothing less.

Within the past month I beat DMC1-4 yes I beat DMC2 too without much trouble with the exception of 1 because of that faggot boss Nightmare and the pretty much NECESSARY need to have devil stars and untouchables to spam the final boss with who would otherwise be nearly impossible for me. If you played the damn game more instead of fucking off and talking about it online you would find out that the secret missions give you blue shards to complete the blue head things which give you more healthbars.

Dante in the DMC5 trailer is riding on a bike so it must take place after the ending of DMC2.

I wouldnt mind pretending like as if the rest of the game never happened though.

What?

d2b020 No.15231530

What is the best thing in DMC1 and why is it raining down lightning bolts as Alastor?

da78bd No.15231534

Just skip to DmC

8ca528 No.15231555

You CAN block attacks. Attack at the same time as the enemy does to parry their attacks.

Just keep playing the game and have an extra 1 thousand red thingies (the currency) saved up during the final mission.

>>15231556

No, I understand what you're talking about, I don't understand why anyone would need to do that for Mundus, especially on normal mode. Even without Untouchable it's not that difficult to tank enough damage to kill him while standing still on the rocks.

>Dante in the DMC5 trailer is riding on a bike so it must take place after the ending of DMC2.

Its a pandora's box form, and the devs said DMC5 takes place after 4.

2 is being forgotten about and basically written out of existence

Kill yourself tameem

245932 No.15233270

being honest. DmC is a good game. just a bad Devil may cry game. also is too easy that any normalfag can feel good reaching sss combos by mashing a single button.

but still better than dmc 2. story is another thing. probably same problem as DK3

>>15231439

I just got the ifrit so thanks for that.

>>15231520

Why are you getting so autistic about me talking about my experience with the game for the first time? Also, I know the secret missions give you blue shards, but what happens if you beat ALL of them.

>>15231711

>Stiff jumping

>Fixed Camera angles

>No way to block

>You have to grind red orbs to get upgrades (as far as I know)

<There's nothing archaic.

0a6cd4 No.15233485

You have to remember this game invented a genre. There's some growing pains there.

7699e4 No.15233572

How do I git gut at cuhrazee? I've beat all the Devil May Cry games, but I've never beat them, if you know what I mean. There was a lot of cheesing and repetitive basic combos, but I couldn't naturally find the groove to look stylish.

Is it really nothing more than just practice, or is it based on those immutable traits like reaction speed and intuition like what gooks have with Starcraft (or any game for that matter)?

>The worst fucking part about this game though is that enemies can block, but for some unexplainable reason, you can't.

It has been some years since i played it but i think that the closest thing to block that there is, at least on the first game is either parry or using a strong attack to stun-lock The game was initially worked as a secuel to Resident Evil and after playing Resident Evil 4, i think the ones that worked on either franchise didn't knew at the time that players would want to block some attacks or just didn't care

>I always saw the devil trigger as more of a last resort sort of thing when you are in a pinch.

Devil Trigger is a power up, it makes you move faster and hit stronger, even if you run out of it, you can charge it fairly quickly, there's no reason to mock a player who uses it I think only DMC2 made it be that way due the Majin Form You might depend on using DT way more often on harder dificulties

>I kinda thought that guns were the ONLY way of hurting them.

Alastor's thunder attack You jump, levitate and hit gun button also work to deal long range damage gun damage

>To a newbie to the DMC franchise like me, how good are the sequiels?

DMC3 improves in almost everything if not all of what DMC1 failed You even have a block and release-damage only style DMC4 feels like you are playing two games, both are half-completed, combat-wise Dante is more fun that Nero for obvious reasons

>>15231520

>petty much NECESSARY to have devil stars and untouchables

Devil stars? yes, in a stage/boss or two and mostly if you fuck up or you are doing a higher difficulty, otherwise if you keep buying more moves, increasing your life bar/DT gauge then you'll do just fine

It takes some directed practice and understanding. There are good youtube tutorials on advanced shit by ChaserTheWolf for DMC4, which will teach you almost everything for 3 and 4.

Basically learn to jump cancel, learn every move by heart, style switch & weaponswitch on the fly.

You more or less need to put your mind to experimenting, maybe putting yourself a goal to use two styles a lot until you feel comfortable combining and switching between them, then do another rotation of styles until you feel great about any combo.

Same with the weaponry.
