After working on Animal Crossing since the Gamecube days the director has jumped ship and left. I think anyone who knows Nintendos internal divide the last few years can guess why right?

For the underagefags its simple: Back when Nintendo pre switch was going down the toilet the suits and shareholders were screeching to go full mobage with gachas and clickers for every IP they owned. Others in what was called 'The Iwata Camp' such as Miyamoto, Auonuma and the AC dev were staunchly against this saying "we are a toy company not a software company" and too many creatives threatening to walk kept them in line.

But Iwata died and Pokemon GO made billions of Yen for them so we all know what followed. A bunch of low quality games such as an infinite runner, multiple gacha and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp.

So imagine you are this guy. You hear horror stories of other studios like Konami and Square Enix putting beloved IP's in Mobage, or worse Pachislot hell and tell yourself "thank fuck i got in at Nintendo, this will never happen here right?" and yet it does. Its taking your baby and shitting all over it for the sake of money, not quality or user experience.

So he said 'fuck it i'm so done' and left. Knowing the series he made a huge hit has apparently no director now, no switch game in the works and nothing but a skeleton crew making assetts for a mobage thats already lost 93% of its total userbase in less than a single year.

S-sure is a great time to be an animal crossing fan r-right?

Animal Crossing on the GC was the best one anyway, I doubt it was going anywhere good at this point. New Leaf had a few nice things but it's nowhere near as comfy and handhelds are shit.

I haven't followed Nintendo much after that, since Wii was my last console, but I don't imagine that they've improved anything since then. If anything, the mobage was a logical evolution of the franchise that sold physical lootboxes a decade before Valve popularized them.

The villager interaction was the part I missed the most, the level of unique dialogue and modifiers based on personality and time and where you were and etc. was great. Later games basically dropped this feature completely which is fucking beyond retarded when it was a fundamental part of the game.

Nigga New Leaf was one of the top best selling 3DS games in japan, there were middle aged women that bought a 3DS just for animal crossing. They're gonna make a AC on switch with or without Isao Moro.
