Ironically you might have more luck downloading the .ISO and playing it on PCSX2.

should be good enough if i feel like playing the PS2 version of the game, at which point i might as well just either burn off the ISO from an actual DVD disk and put it on a real modchipped PS2 or pick up an legit copy of the [PS2 version of the game] game to play on a real PS2

there was also a Xbox version of the game release around the same time as the PC and PS2 versions of the game, although i'm not very keen to play that one version either no matter how i actually do so

I always downloaded the crazy french version that comes with 100s of cars and tracks from forum(dot)rallyesim(dot)fr that extracts to 30gbs of stuff with the cheat save. But I have dirt rally now so that's my fix.

Download it for PC. Don't go for rips, you want a clean CD install. Then download the RSRBR mod from rallyesim.
