I got this from one of those cheap-ass bundlestars bundles and always assumed it was shovelware. Turns out it was just a really old game.

Examined Life of Gaming did a few videos on it which are worth watching. Also he's criminally underwatched and deserves more attention.

That's basically the gist of it. It's EXTREMELY unpolished. Gunplay is extremely stiff and the story is incredibly bland. The voice acting is also Resident Evil-tier.

Chrome was considered niche and underwhelming at the time and it's considered that now. It even used to be on Steam but was taken off by Techland presumably because nobody was buying it. The only reason it ever gets brought up nowadays is because its engine was reused by Techland for all of their later projects including Call of Juarez, Dead Island and Dying Light. The level editor even looks basically the same.

Chrome actually somewhat resembles the ancient build of STALKER back when it was still a sci-fi space shooter. Considering this build dates back to 2002 and Chrome released in 2003 this was most likely a coincidence.

i remember this game well when it came out. the amount of grass really amazed me, but enemies sniping you from a very long distance with regular weapons, that was annoying.

The xbox game Far Cry Instincts is a far better game to the original PC release

FC Instincts was done by Ubisoft Montreal who then proceeded to purchase the franchise from Crytek after making Instincts. All subsequent games in the franchise used Instinct's version of Cryengine not the original PC release's. The games from Far Cry 2 onward are closer to Far Cry Instincts than they are the original PC game which is closer to Crysis.
