It's pretty much Daggerfall in space if I'm to be honest. There is a lot of content that's very involved and takes advantage of the game systems well, then there's also procedural quests that involve shipping chicken arses to another system or blowing up a notorious space pirate.

I actually think I could get into what NMS looks like now. With all the content they promised at the beginning released now, it looks like a decent sandbox sci-fi.

That said, I won't be buying it. The way they've abused the faith of pre-order and release buyers is the kind of audience-grooming that's destroying quality control and industry standards.

You can't go to war against a faction because there is none. There's no point to this game but to explore and yet if you've been to one planet, you've practically been to all of them since there's very little true variety in them. The NPCs don't actually live their life, they're just there for the PC to talk to/buy stuff from. There's the odd pirate here and there but killing one has about the same effect as killing an animal in the game: nothing. Because the pirates are just randomly generated based on the rate of how much "conflict" there is on a system. No pirate stations you can raid and worse of all there are no NPC enclaves aside from trading posts. There's are outposts here and there but they're all near barren. I mean why are all these merchants acquiring all these wealth for? Where are the cities? Where are the families that live in this universe?

For a game that touts itself as being able to build a large game world, it's actually inept at actual world building. It's already at version 1.5 but it still has a long way to go.

I've been playing it since Friday, about 12 hours in.

I can't tell if I actually like it or not. It can be really monotonous and repetitive, but its still somewhat fun. Maybe I'm just lying to myself or maybe the skinner box has got me good. There are some nice things like landing on a new planet that is continually covered with acid rain and just sitting in your ship listening the rain fall.
