The old SomethingAwful Lets Plays of Dwarf Fortress were thesome of the first ones, and also were basically the pinnacle. Now a days they're just podcasts with a video game to look at while listening.

There was ONE LP I enjoyed long ago, but only for the full blown autism. The guy was playing Assasin's Creed, and while playing was giving a full historical break down on the assasination targets, how they died, what they did in life, and would even talk about the architecture and history of the buildings in the game that actually existed in real life. It was pretty great, but no one wants to put in effort like that.

I actually really enjoy watching someone who's played a game before and knows a lot about it, they'll usually talk about interesting stuff about the game, some ways to beat a specific part, etc., etc.. It always felt like those people genuinely cared about the game and put in a lot of effort to show that to you. But those kinds of videos have gone mostly the way of the dodo, replaced by oneoff guide videos, or "first time" let's plays or lately even streams because those pull in more views and dosh.

I've seen Let Us Plays for singleplayer games. Even though there is only 1 person playing and no "Us".

This is the best example I have of a good let's play. A man taking you on a guided tour of a lesser-known game, giving you background information and insight into the behind-the-scenes work while hitting all important easter eggs and locations along the way.

He is well-spoken, well-researched and obviously has a passion for the game in question, even with its glaring flaws. I find myself hoping for this level of professional commentary whenever I hear the phrase "let's play" and too often am I disappointed.

The only lets plays I care about are the ridiculous self imposed challenges or if the game allows it LPs that follow an alternative way of completing a game.

The sad part is that 99% of the faggots are the sort of unimaginative morons that roll a stealth archer on Skyrim, both extremely common, the game and the character.

I do LPs, however my biggest problem is that I need to keep a consistent schedule with releasing content.

Piss off buddy, multiple Anons have said that there are LPs out there that they have enjoyed. The problem is that majority of the people doing shit are in the "LOL, so random" type of production, they don't even complete they game they're playing, and/or they try to stay with whatever FOTM titl;es are currently popular at the moment.

DecasedCrab's body of work speaks for itself; he's been doing this for literally more than a decade, usually without more than a month-long break. If you don't know him and have the time to spare, give his La-Mulana let's play a watch. It's one of the gold standards for this style of video: he knows the game inside and out, his voice isn't irritating, and you can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does despite having a grand total of 34,000 subscribers after a literal career of uploading stuff to the internet.

Also you guys are thinking about this wrong. Let's Plays are great for seeing what a new game is like before you pirate buy it. Seeing actual gameplay and commentary on it as it happens is much better than going off some soyboy's kike approved appraisal of how problematic and difficult a game is.

Have you been professionally diagnosed with autism?

Chuggaaconroy's humor is pretty bad most of the time, and he can get loud way too much (ironic given that he was a chronic mumbler for a lot of his early videos) but that's probably just the way he is, a weird awkward autist, although apparently he doesn't actually have autism. Which is really weird because he jam packs his videos with tons of actual info about the game. If I ever do a Let's Play, and I don't go into autistic detail like he does, please kill me. It would probably be a 100% playthrough of Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light, because I could fill part of the screen with all kinds of useful info for that.

His LP of The Wonderful 101 is the reason I finally got it when Club Nintendo was shutting down, and while I won't say it's Platinum's best game (that probably goes to Bayonetta or Transformers: Devastation) I will say Wonderful 101 is one of the best games I've ever played and anyone who owns a Wii U and hasn't played it must be even worse at video games or more into JRPGs than I am.

The Something Awful forums like to claim credit for creating Let's Plays but an indentical type of thread where a player would go through a mod or game posting screenshots and interact with other forum members while playing were on the Planet Quake forums years before becoming popular on SA. They may have came up with the name but that's it.

A much more interesting fact is that some of their members were involved in early streaming of gameplay using icecast while interacting with people over IRC but it was never attached to the forums or main site. That's how I got involved with SA back in 2005, browsing through icecast streams in a winamp I stumbled upon a guy playing 4 player chuchu rocket with a PIP feed of the couch while interacting with viewers on IRC. This was 2 years before Justin.tv(which eventually became twitch) was launced. One of their members called Putnam started a site called GBS.tv(goon broadcasting station) that had a main channel where users could queue up videos for all to watch and talk amongst each other and it was planned to let users have their own channel where they'd stream gameplay while interacting with audiences.

They permabanned him over some forum drama and he left to work on video for Facebook.

Lancun's older stuff is also pretty good, he started streaming on Twitch a while back though and I've never seen him since then because I don't know what his schedule is.

I like Let's Plays of people who know how to play the game and talk about interesting stuff during the game. It would also be nice for them to know how to talk about other stuff unrelating to the game and be at least a little bit entertaining. So don't be like Legend of Total War, which is an extreme example of someone who can literally only talk about the game and NOTHING else, because he doesn't have a life.

I just watched a Let's play with less than 10 viewers of a late 1990s RPG.
