Taki's issue is that she's carrying a powerful cursed dagger called Mekki-maru that drove her master insane. It has a shard of Soul Edge in it, and is extremely powerful, but using it for long periods of time is risky as fuck and certain to corrupt the user, so she just sticks to one regular paired dagger called Rekki-maru most of the time and unsheathes it from it's heavily charmed and anti-magic sheath for her strong attacks, which is how she makes shit explode in her new super and some of her other attacks.
Some of the other attacks that use Mekki-Maru tend to be guard breaks and unblockables. It's also one of the story reasons she's so focused on kicks in gameplay. As for the weak corruption that inevitably would leak out no matter what, she still has considerable mental strength and the knowledge of what the sword did to her master (pic related) to keep that in check.
She doesn't actually have an issue other then being a potential second Nightmare should she fuck up, which she won't, because she's just good at what she does.

The only positive things about the art direction I can point is the fact they stuck to their guns when it came to the female figures which in itself is only worthy of merit because of [CURRENT YEAR] bullshit and the signs in Taki's body which is admittedly pretty cool. Other than that, everything is just too bloated and overdone. SC1-2 (and bits of 3) had a certain charm to its simplicity while 6 seems closer to 4-5. Sieg's armor makes little sense, Salsa looks like he's been TP'ed and Yoshi is a Tekken Yoshi design not a SC Yoshi design which uses foot soldier armor as basis so now the hatashimono on his back makes no sense. I think it's the armor break feature that's to blame. IMHO it would have been better if each character had 1 or 2 specific break points.
Also the stages are either bland or excessively overdone. Can't common on the OST but so far nothing that holds a candle to SC1 or even Soul Edge.

That's what kickstarted the subplot of IV and the whole story of V Patroklos only gets to see his sister again in V. Pyrrha was kidnapped and had been deeply exposed to the evil sword and later Sophitia killed herself when she extracted the shard from her heart and give to Pyrrha when Siegfried defeated Nightmare.
Rothion died when Patroklos was a teenager from some disease but from the looks, he wasn't that great raising his kid alone since Cassandra was MIA in sword limbo. He wasn't a warrior but a blacksmith and made all the weapons and armors of the sisters (later Pyrrha) and Patroklos before he went to train with Setsuka. They both have another youger brother, Lucius who is regularly mentioned but didn't do shit in any game except teaching bakery to his nephew
But honestly, unless they do some drastic changes that disregard not only V but IV and III too like another origin for the swords, Tira being killed or any other major character, deleting Sophitia's kids, Zazalamel actually diyng for real, Kilik not being a fag and so on, any minor change can be undone by fans to fit III onwards games. So far, they just added a chuuni edge nordic guy who is only related to Kilik for now. The other stuff are just retelling events from the first game.

Star Wars used to kick ass, but it never really made sense to put Star Wars characters in with Soul Calibur characters because Star Wars characters are so much more powerful that they should be able to easily defeat any of their opponents except maybe if they have Soul Calibur or Soul Edge. For this game's standards, Astaroth looks pretty good. That said, still bloated with a shitload of details (I get that the snakes are a nod to Palgaea but that's already Ivy's shtick) and the breakable parts all together make him look like a Bayformer. The leg armor in particular makes him look like he skipped leg day.
Mi-na, on the other hand, looks amazing. By far and wide the best design in the game. Simple and breezy and a new color scheme that just works, now she doesn't need to look like she got something from Mai Shiranui's wardrobe.
Overall, best update the game has had.

SCVI is being released in two months and all their showing was mostly a giant ad to the final build for the niche crowd. That and his universe is already tightly connected with Soul Calibur. Just played Soul Calibur 1 on the Dreamcast. What a fun game. I always kinda liked Soul Calibur 1-3, it feels like Tekken with weapons, especially with being able to attack even after KOs.
I do gotta say though, I am enjoying the footage for SC6. It looks like it is really representative of what made the first few games great, unlike Dead or Alive 6 which is giving everything the knife. Talim is less cute to me now though. It is a common theme throughout the franchise where girls who get more and more revealing costumes become less cute\attractive. Talim just looks odd now, and much younger. Not a good sight. I also really liked SC1 Ivy's "stripper goes to Hot Topic" look. That's just me though. I'd love to hook up my PS2 again for some SC3 action but right now my OG Xbox and Dreamcast are taking up all the space. Not exactly a bad use of space though.
