It wasn't even that long ago when people used all kinds of ridiculous skins. Only they could see them, but they were really popular.
Now you can flaunt some gay looking camo skin or pink knife around that others can see and suddenly idiots are shelling out lots of money for them and no one uses custom skins anymore.
Making the skins some rare commodity is not only the most money grubbing thing that has happened to video games, but it also ruined the innocent fun of them. Now it's all about "Oh look at me I have this super rare skin" whereas it used to be simply for your own enjoyment and seeing how ridiculous or otherwise flashy you could make yourself look.
It's a stupid thing that I didn't think would affect others much, yet somehow it managed to blow up on such a scale that people are throwing large amounts of money at companies just for some gay texture that they don't even own and I feel it's seriously corrupting what games, especially FPS, were about.

Well, somewhat worse, there used to be a "Value" associated with earning cosmetics in TF2, that there was, a genuine effort to try and keep as more valuable, (making all items pre mannconomy vintage and all purchased items uncraftable and objectively worse to found or crafted alternatives) but that was slowly chewed away over the years, used to be all the new community items could be crafted, easily and consistently through a secret crafting recipe, however, this was destroyed in favor of cases of varying rarity and community crates, which, yeah they do pay the people who make those models but at the cost of the end user.

What turns me off of lootboxes is that you're paying for a small chance to get something you want, it's no longer paying for items you want, and often if you want to the game doesn't have that option, so either you pay externally out the ass for the thing, or you pay for a small win chance
