Because Sony doesn't have enough faith in their own fucking games, at least Japanese ones. Gravity Rush 1 only gets a limited physical (in the US anyhow), and then they decide to kill GR2's online really fast. And if you think this is soon, they actually delayed the shut down by six months since people rightly complained that that it was stupid to shut down the servers only a year or so after release.
I have to wonder just how much room GR2's online even takes up on the servers, being just photo swapping, treasure locations (pretty sure you can find them without the online hint, but the latter is better than being at random), and recordings of how players did a challenge mission. Though, I'm admittedly not sure how long they keep it in memory. Wouldn't shock me if they want to squeeze every bit of space they can free up for something else though, even if the amount gained isn't much from something like this.

You've already missed out. Servers died about 45 minutes or so ago. What you missed was online photo sharing, treasure hunts, and receiving/issuing challenges, all of these granted you Dusty Tokens, which, upon reaching a certain amount, would unlock something. You either unlocked a photo prop, an outfit, a talisman to equip, or a furniture piece for you home. There is no other way to get these Dusty Token exclusive items except through the online component.

Not exactly. You can run across treasure on your own without hints (which is how those hint chains get got started). The game did prompt you to take a picture and send it after finding one though, which makes me wonder if that step will simply be phased out. Real question though is if you can find them with the internet to the system off (IE: without the servers). Something I'd been reading suggested that the actual treasures would still be around, albeit much harder to find without the ability to receive hints and forcibly spawn the chest into your own game.

You don't fly, but you "fall" in any direction you want by shifting your gravity. It's an action game/platformer centred around that gimmick. Very interesting world and style, great music, fun movement, bonkers plot, directed by the same guy who made Silent Hill and Siren. Both games are cheap now.

the closing of the servers makes little difference. it was just used so you can "challenge" other players to beat your times on missions, or see/like other peoples pictures, or play this game where you find a treasure, then take a selfie near it to give someone else a hint to find it. these gave you tokens that unlocked mostly "meh" items in the game with the exception of the final one which gives you infinite stamina… but you'll beat the fuck out of the game long before unlocking the final item. the costumes are basically alternate colors.

To be fair the online component is very minimal. It's just comparing scores in side missions and sending photo hints to each other for other side missions. But yes it triggers me hard that part of the game is gone now. Especially the photo hints. What they should have done was release an update where everyone gets a collection of photos, the photo that helped the most people for any particular treasure. And if they want to incorporate the race tokens, just add a new time you need to beat for each race in order to get the tokens.
I literally never used the photo items you unlock, and the costumes are fun but I kept reverting to the main one because of autism, but I'm still massively triggered. Also Kat's work clothes are cute as fuck.

i thought the treasure hunt was kinda tedious, i got most of my dusty tokens from taking lewds of kat and putting them in high traffic "hub" areas. like near her pipe, or at mission-start points.
also picture of the flame-goddess thing's cameltoe and stuff like that earned me hundreds of dusty tokens.
the challenges were a good idea, but i just went for gold in each mission and would send that off. when people sent me challenges i rarely did them.

the costumes you can unlock are the schoolgirl outfit from the first game. but the schoolgirl outfit in gr2 is much better. then theres the gr1 default outfit, which is a subtle remix of the default outfit in gr2, and then her worker outfit, which is one of my favorites because nipples and short shorts. but you can view it at any time by playing older missions.
work outfit is easily the one that will be missed the most.

Especially one you figured out the talismans and were challenged to an earlier mission and could jupiter slide through an entire race, blasting past your competitor with like a 20 second lead. Later I challenged the top of the leaderboard to see how insanely fast a 9 second run looked. Well, with the PS3, there's various sites hosting uploaded DLC rips, and I think it's been similar with the PSP and Vita. However, I know that with the Vita, pirated DLC only works with pirated game files as legit files have encryption on both ends, or something. Not sure the PS3 and PSP were like that, but I would assume that with the PS4, and archived, pirated DLC is liable to follow in the Vita's tracks of not working with actual copies of games.

Would be neat if someone started a project to compile existing photos people had taken with maps of the general areas. That said, some nights I'd just fly fall around the various locations looking for them; I'd always have better look checking Heksville than JPL, by virtue of Heksville being more compact with less space between buildings/islands. Though, it's worth mentioning that, as I'd only ever find one treasure spawned per area, if any, I doubt more than one can be present at a location at once (one night I found four in maybe an hour of searching).
