Fallout 1 and 2 are not bad games but they'e brought down a lot by glaring flaws that are overlooked because of their age and popularity. There were many better CRPGs that came before it but they're generally ignored because they weren't as well marketed and didn't get influential sequels that persuaded people to go back and try the originals. Really it's the same issue as Morrowind has where it's throughouly average but because it was massively popular on release the sheer weight of their highly vocal fanbases drowns out any criticism or alternative opinions.
The rest of this thread is going to be screeching about anti-consensus opinions, might as well abandon it now.

When the old state systems decay there's a period of anarchy. Fact of the matter is I don't see the low IQ dregs we've been importing surviving due to being almost exclusively urban dwellers and dependent on state income. As for getting removed, the Turks had been in the Balkans for hundreds of years but the collapse of the Ottoman empire saw them turfed out all the same. When you add in how dependent places like the middle east and Africa are on the west, for things as basic as food, I don't see any real threat of them replacing us in our entirety with us having no capacity to respond in a variety of ways. They only look menacing now because they stand atop pillars of sand held together by us.

The main issue is that the current westerners aren't much better than most of lesser races, while there is a high chance of the west winning currently(which is why i noted it would require the west to continue down its current path);

I disagree. There had to be a trade off for going uber at the BoS. Going to the glow was suppose to be a obvious waste of time, but you were 'rewarded' if you did it, dispite being discouraged to. Makes the combat and route easier and the diplomat ending possible at the guarenteed cost of Necropolis, Boneyard, and the Hub. Besides in F1, there is little to explore, since all locations are given to you, and trying to grind random encounters is stupid. Basically, this made the 'no' option in doing quests a powerful consideration.
Of course, you have to wait a Very long time (500 days) for Vault 13 to get invaded for a game over. The intended limits from fixit makes fallout much harder.

As for saving throws: There is the classic DnD AC, Then DR, then DT. If you pass AC (You hit), damage is rolled, if the damage is less then DT, it is now zero, regardless of critical hits. If there is any damage is reduced by DR.
The armor system is like this because it makes high damage weapons useful over low cost or high DPS weapons. Besides its what makes power armor and combat armor shine. It sets a high bar for what weapons can work effectively against without FF sized health pools. So put down that SMG and get a plasma rifle.

Both fallouts have the same story. Your home is under danger, save it then something even bigger happens. I enjoyed both for largely the same reasons, those being the gameplay and atmosphere. F1 was more grim, while F2 felt more colorful (even tho your village gets wiped out and you can't stop it).

Cooking oil is the biggest scam in human history. I recently tried out preparing meat without oil and guess what: you don't need a single drop of it. Just put the meat (steak, ground meat, chicken drumsticks, fillet, whatever) in a frying pan and heat it, keep turning it so it gets heated from both sides equally. The fat inside the meat will start melting and leaking into the frying pan, making the oil totally unnecessary.

First its highly highly improbable. Second if you take better criticals perk (what is funnest perk in teh game) ALL you criticals to the head and eyes ignore armor and always would be dealing full damage additionally to the special effects (without perk 80% of such hits ignore armor). Exception is when you roll instant death critical hit. Than you can get hilarious messages ( was critically hit in the eye for 0 damage, Death is instantaneous.). I remember this what exceptionally fun when happened during box match with Mike "The Masticator" Tyson. When i hit him into head for zero damage over and over looking at my diminishing HP until after another hit he just keeled over and instantly died.

New Reno is one of the best locales in Fallout, and any RPG for that matter. The music alone sets the tone for a city that's absolute shit: crime, drugs, prostitution. Even in New Vegas, I can't think of any other location that had the same dark, organized crime feel.
I still remember sleeping with bishop's daughter and getting stuck on the top floor of the casino. I fucked up my saves, so my only option was to somehow get past three floors of guards. I decided to take all the Jet I had for the extra AP, and make a run for it. Was a jet addict for the rest of the game, and could never go back to the same casino without being killed, but I absolutely loved it.
You're right though, the games aren't as good as people make them out to be. Most people including me have only played them because they liked New Vegas. Personally, I find the combat too slow to be enjoyable, and the "good guy" vs. "bad guy" plot in both games is more similar to Fallout 3 than New Vegas.

I'm actually in the middle of Fallout 2, and it baffles me that you list trivialities and your shitty opinions, but fail to point out the most glaring flaw in the game, which is cut content. There is cut content EVERYWHERE. Sulik, the first companion you can recruit, whose whole reason for joining is so that you can go to the Den together and free his sister from slavers? He's shit out of luck because that won't be mentioned ever again, because it's cut fucking content. Then you've got numerous bugs (especially in dialogues and quest consequences) that never got patched out, you got rushed shit like companions not showing the armour they wear on their fucking models, and even the fucking devs make countless refferences to this fact, like graveyards full of tombstones talking about victims of the deadline and other shit talking about cut content. Fallout 2 can't even be called "rushed" as much as plain "unfinished". It's like I'm playing early access. Thank god there's Killap's restoration mod that fixes all this shit and makes the game actually fun.

BTW not everyone knows but stealth is OP in F2. Usually people play with companions and they break stealth. But if you alone you can use its full power. It works in combat too. Till you shot enemy don't see you. But even after shooting you are unmasked only for the target you was aiming. Only that target would "see" you, other enemies would be following that enemy not going directly at you. If you kill target before its turn other enemies can't detect you.
Also you can avoid most random encounters. As soon as you enter area spam combat start button, then in combat activate stealth skill and walk away. With 100 stealth and during night you can slip away from pretty much any encounter. Sneaking into Navarro? Easy.

I remember trying FO2 when I was like 13. Failed hard. Died in the temple of trials and was like ah fuck it. Put it away for 6 months. Came back. Did better. Got decent. Had a great time. Learned that you can't health potion you way out of shit. Running is an option. Running is often the BEST option.
