e818b2 No.15170988

I recently bought a nip model of PS2 fat (SCPH-35000, NTSC-J) through ebay, but I'm having issues to read games that use Disc Compact discs (all PS1 games and some early PS2 titles like Phantom Brave & Kingdom, EDF1, Growlanser 2 & 3, La Pucelle, etc) while the DVD-rom discs run all fine. The console has difficulties to recognize the Disc Compact on startup, and it takes a couple of retries to have the console recognize those.

I was wondering what part I should replace, and if it's possible to swap the part from a PAL model or something, or if I have to rely on importing the detached parts.

Woudln't it just be better to emulate at this point? Current hardware can handle pcsx2 rather well

e818b2 No.15171095

>>15171053

I rather prefer using the real hardware, plus playing the games on a small CRT screen, rather than emulating personally.

The issue with Ps1 discs isnt much a big deal because I also bought a nip PsOne Slim that was in near mint condition, but it's kinda more troubling for some of the early ps2 games.

Why would you dump the same guide three times? And OPL Is the only option for loading games at this point as it's still supported. It features both HDD and netowrk loading from games, with the latter being the better option.

Ive never heard of this. My US slim PS2 had an issue back in 2013 with reading the dual layer dvds. But i just slightly upped the power to the laser and its been perfect since. Hasnt died.

>>15171348

Forgot to add, either look up how to really clean the lens and see if that helps. Or maybe its laser needs to be adjusted.

I cleaned the inside of the console because there was a lot of dust when I received it. Havent tried to adjust the laser although.

Thats the only thing i can think of. Can it read dual layered dvds just fine?

>>15171443

I was able (and I'm still able) to read Sakura Taisen Atsuki Chishio Ni and Rogue Galaxy (both games are categorized as DVD-9 games) without issues during the start-up

I have a fat PAL PS2 from release. If I install homebrew can I play NTSC games?

>>15171473

Thats fucked up shit. I couldnt imagine why it cant read CDs then.

e818b2 No.15171549

>>15171518

It's not like it's impossible to read the CD-based PS2 games, but it takes several retries (or sometimes just once) to re-insert the CD in the console in order to be recognized on the menu instead of a "disc error"

I checked up the state of the CDs themselves and they're all pretty much in very good condition anyway

Is most of the stuff in the guides unnecessary then?

Well, ToxicOS was meant to be ran with a mod-chip, iirc. while HDD-OSD can get you straight to OPL, I prefer OPL's network loading via FMCB because I have a slim. Managing files from you computer's HDD is easier, anyway.; I believe HDD loading from it allows greater compatibility, also. if anything the OSD soft-mod is a good method for those that don't want to get a flip-top + drivekey for their phat PS2 to directly get to FMCB.
