Not that much of a spoiler as it's my own personal headcannon.

It's entirely possible that Classic Sonic was an illusion created by the Phantom Ruby, as he dosn't just portal back to his dimension. He just fades away like all the other illusions. The Classic Sonic from the ending of Mania was possibly teleported back to Angle Island, as seen in Sonic Mania Adventures.

Also all the zones in the game, including the Little Planet, were illusions created by the Phantom Ruby, besides the original ones.

You finally find out the truth behind who you are: a mass produced super soldier that kills life with it's very presence.

ToME has a lot of good ones if you like lore. It's especially surprising since lore and roguelikes don't usually go hand in hand.

The Spellblaze was originally intended as a weapon against the orcs, but it catastrophically failed so violently that it destroyed almost 1/3 of the planet.

Eyal survived the Spellblaze so well only because of numerous Sher'Tul safeguards against such a thing happening on their home planet, but every other planet colonized by the Sher'Tul was violently destroyed when it happened.

The demons' homeworld of Urh'Rok was previously a peaceful utopia that had been peacefully subjugated by the Sher'Tul until it was later destroyed by the Spellblaze. Since it had been so many years since they had seen the Sher'Tul, the demon race concluded that the Sher'Tul had betrayed them and swore to destroy them and all creatures upon Eyal at any cost.

The known history of orcs was deliberately revised into 'cruel all-hating savages' by the old halfling kingdoms of Nargol and Eldoral, who had quietly enslaved the orcs and sought to keep their enslavement unknown when they escaped. The later orcish campaigns against the halflings were then used to paint them as unprovoked attackers so the halflings could secure an alliance with the previously neutral human and elf kingdoms.

Seeing that Jinkuro is the only person that somewhat cared about her, gives up marriage and becomes a nun to pray for his condemned soul.

Kisuke: even though he avenges Torahime by killing the shogun, he is still wrought with regret for initially taking part in the theft of the demon blade and the execution of her family, thus causing the events that led to this. unable to bring her back to life by asking Buddah, as his sins outweigh his deeds, he loses faith in the gods and kills himself right in front of Buddah. Torahime, who grew to love with him, asks the Buddah if she can step down from heaven and allow both of them to be reincarnated together in order to spend a new life with each other, which the buddah allows.

Reflecting on these endings makes me appreciate kisuke's story better. I still like momohime's journey more, though the ending isn't as grand in comparison.
