my advice is don't buy sony or try places like hospitals, universities with AV departments, video editing houses, etc. Many will just want to get rid of them for cheap. If you decide not to buy Sony, Panasonic has tons of great mid-tier CRTs that are far more affordable. The Pro video market has unfortunately been compromised but you can still get a good set for a decent price here and there.

Those are professional monitors, the first (pic2) being a JVC DT-V1710CG, the second (pic5) being an Ikegami HTM-1907R. These are master grade monitors (used for high end editing) that are capable of 240p/480i SD, 480p ED, 720p, and 1080i. They are expensive and not very common. the JVC one has two other variants, the Panasonic BT-H1700p and the Ikegami HTM1700. The JVC is quite nice and compact, smaller than even some 14" monitors I've seen in overall area. These monitors can be very expensive, I'd recommend something that only does 240p/480i like a Panasonic BT-H1390y. It's a 13" professional color monitor, a nice intermediate size, very common and inexpensive with a very high line count giving the image a very sharp look. It accepts component, rgb, s-video, and composite natively.

If you want to avid the lag induced by a D-A conversion you should look for video cards with analog outputs otherwise I don't think that you're going to get a better solution, as that's an article written by Analog Devices engineers, it probably is the base of most D-A video converters.

Question, brehs:
Say I have an HD 16:9 Sony Trinitron/ Wega
Its only HD inputs are component and DVI with RCA audio.
Modern consoles (and retro throwbacks like Nintendo Classic consoles) only output HDMI.
How do I use this HD Trinitron as a monitor for my Switch/ PS4/ PC while utilizing its audio? What doohickey should I buy off of Amazon to convert everything necessary?

a basic HDMI breakout box which separates the audio from the video. If you can find one with a DVI cable, all the better. HDMI is just DVI with audio bundled in (and other stuff down the line) so there's no need to convert anything, just separate some signals so you can get everything working well. I imagine getting everything might cost 30 bucks or so? Shouldn't be an issue.

Also, is that HLSL with retardly huge amounts of scanline flicker? Not even the cheap hand me down Samsung TV I had as a kid had any of that shit.

You're not old enough and/or were exposed to flatscreens first. I'm going to guess you're maybe 18 - 20, couple more years and your audible frequency band will narrow. You can speed this process up by following >>15171634 to the letter.

>That banding
Set the refresh rate of your camera to 60hz. If you're using a phone there's free camera applications that will do this. If you're in Europe set the refresh rate to 50hz

Apparently you don't get this sound with 100/120 Hz TVs, but most adults naturally lose this range of hearing completely anyway.

Stalin couldn't have defeated shit without Lend and Lease. The US basically gave him the tools to take over Eastern Europe, central planning is too shit to produce anything, even after WW2 a shitton of Soviet trains were from America.

The banding is from the camera, not the refresh rate. Syncing up to a CRT has more to do when the camera activates rather than just having it refresh at 60hz. You need to time the sync pulses with the refresh rate of your camera. This being sort of incredibly hard to do does lead to some artifacts, but getting a darkened phosphor glow is from poor synchronization of the monitor refresh and camera refresh. The moire pattern in the last picture is just a mix of compression artifacts and resolution limitation.

Here's something you guys might know. I've noticed my CRT has weird "warping" or "bending" near the edges. It doesn't bother me with 3d games, but with 2d sprite based games like allundra it makes me want to puke.
Anyone know what this is, how to fix it, or if I'm just fucked and need to find a new CRT?

Go to second hand shops and search your local craigslist. If you don't live by a major city then you should have an easier time not getting ripped off. In major cities you will have a number of CRT enthusiasts that are competing to get the best CRTs. If you really want a particular model then you will either have to bite the bullet and pay a lot on ebay, or you need to spend a significant period of time hunting for it locally each week.

this is from the capacitors aging. You probably notice white warping things on the screen a little bit, causing it to expand parts of it. Working on CRTs doesn't require advanced soldering skills, discharging one requires a simple tool you can make for a couple of bucks (flat head, electrical tape, somewhat thick, shielded wire.) It's up to you if you want to do the task which can seem daunting.

I thought it was much more simple than that. Does that explain why sometimes my camera will display large black horizontal bars across the TV screen? And the rings in pic related?
