The list goes on and on alot of the best "Trying to be edgy and succeeding" is like the late 90s and early 2000s era. After that the edge was lost and everything that was "Edgy" was in the sense of the term "Dark to the point of retardation and ridiculousness and stupidity" See Jared Leto in suicide squad for example of bad edgy.

I played DmC because some faggot posted a steam key a while ago. The succubus scene aside, Donte isn't actually edgy at all. He's a pretty bland dude, really. People come to ask his help because he's NEPHILIM and he's like "nah, fuck off, I want to be a hard partying waste of skin" for a minute, then he gets some background on his family and he's like "shit, you're actually in deep shit and so is the whole of humanity ? Okay, I'll do my best then".
The succubus scene is actually a complete tone clash. Donte goes from normalfag with decent morals to obnoxious kid who just learned about being an asshole for just this fight. It's weird as fuck.
And no, I'm not trying to say DmC doesn't deserve to be shat on, it will always be the "Not in a million years" insult on a beloved franchise. But the fact that many rightfully refused to play this shit inevitably led to some misconceptions.

I can't recall the names, but a few computer games back in the 80s did a thing where if you died the game's floppy disc would be erased. The idea was that it would be a game for people who could handle consequence, and the player was properly forewarned about it

when it comes to sof, first one felt actually kinda realistic with its gore, and weapons felt having a great impact when shooting because of that.
but 2nd game did felt bit edgy, maybe because of the overall bit plasticky look of it, and because the overall game wasnt as good as 1st sof so the improved gore shows itself as a main selling point, when 1st game was a solid early 00s shooter with interesting gore system to it.
