What games have good crafting systems? The best two I am aware of are Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead which is near perfect, and Underrail, which has some neat ideas. Cataclysm has a vast quantity of recipes, an often annoying but at least interesting way of getting recipes (some come simply from getting a higher skill level or taking apart an item, but most come from books with some being in multiple books but some being easier to puzzle out than others) that combined with its resource system (basically all items are made of materials, most materials can be broken down further into either smaller pieces or simpler components) allows you a lot of flexibility in raw materials, often letting you do things like taking a car battery, a refrigerator, salt water from a marsh, a fuckload of time, a handfull of brass, and coming out with 7.62x51mm NATO rounds.
Underrail has very simple recipes like "boots", "crossbow", or "leather armor" which, depending on the exact ingredients used from the allowed categories (boots have I think a sole, a leather, and cloth) have differing stats. I'd love Underrail's system in an ARPG, I think. Maybe a dungeon focused roguelike.
